Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 21

As he moved his hands, the ancient language of magic began to gather energy from his surroundings. In this strange world, most of Kazuki’s powers were suppressed. With the ancient hand symbols, he hoped to overcome that disadvantage, but to his disappointment, he found that the hand symbols could only draw slightly more magic than he could on his own effort.

(So it works, but only to this degree. That is ultimately annoying but even if it only works 5 or 6% better than what I myself can currently draw upon, it is still worth it.)

Using his ancient hand symbols, Kazuki began to carve several inscriptions on this triangle slate sitting upon his lap. As soon as he finished, he imbued the element of space into this 3-foot-tall triangle piece.

(One down, another hundred or so to go.)

One after another, he carved several inscriptions into these triangle pieces before using the ancient hand symbols to incorporate the element of space into them.

(This place is making it difficult to draw the element of space from my surroundings. For now, this is a mere test so it should be fine.)

After several minutes, 108 stone triangles had been carved out and inscribed upon. With a thought, Kauzki lifted each piece with his aura and began to assemble something.

Monsuta had gone back to training, but seeing Kauzki doing something interesting, he couldn’t help but watch impatiently. He would have run over as soon as he saw this but Kazuki had asked him not to disturb him. His tail began to wag back and forth in anticipation.

With Monsuta’s large tail slapping the floor here and there, the sound alone was like thunder clapping in Kazuki’s ear. It was long past distracting.

“Monsuta, would you like to come over and watch?”

Kazuki’s brows were slightly furrowed as he said this but he figured inviting Monsuta over was much preferable to him smacking the ground with his tail.

Monsuta basically galloped over, causing the cave to shake.

“Hehe, if you insist Kazuki, I’ll gladly come over. So what can I help with now?”

Kazuki gave him a telling look and Monsuta smiled awkwardly.

“Come on I know I can be of help just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”

Kazuki was not budging.

“Not this time Monsuta. I’ll allow you to watch but you must not make unnecessary movements and I need quiet. Maybe next time ok?”

Monsuta wore a sour expression or at least what Kazuki thought was a sour expression. it was difficult to tell through all the sharp teeth.

“Can…can you at least tell me what you’re doing? This isn’t like those golems from before and it doesn’t look like a simple statue. What new thing could you be making? Will it be able to jump high or swim in lava? Can it crack lightning or melt the many mountains around us?”

Even though he asked for quiet, there was little Kazuki could actually do to stop Monsuta from making noise. He felt a headache incoming and decided to just explain rather than deal with a million little questions here and there.

“No, this will not be able to do any of those things. This will be a chamber of sorts.”

“A chamber…what for?”

“I already explained about my growth problem. In order to gain even more strength, I need to extract the pure fire energy from whatever fire energy I absorb into my core. It splits into three pieces of fire energy. One part goes directly to the primordial flame, one part remains in my core itself and the last part, the pure energy extracted from all of it becomes like a growth catalyst for my magic and strength.”

“Catalyst?”

Kazuki’s head slumped down but he did not get frustrated.

“Monsuta just know that I require the purified energy. In order to get this energy I need to find the impurities…The bad things inside the fire energy. Once I find them, I can get rid of them and I’ll be left with the good pure energy. This chamber will help in a way. I need to create an environment without magical energy. In this way, I will be able to observe the different fire energies in a more natural state and figure out what is the bad stuff inside the fire energy and what s the good stuff. Does that make sense to you?”

Monsuta nodded at first before shaking his large head halfway through. Kazuki wondered if he was just not good at explaining. After all if one understands the core of what they are spouting, they should be able to explain it in simple enough terms that even a child could comprehend it.

The fact that Monsuta still did could not understand after explaining to this degree caused Kazuki to laugh at himself.

“Monsuta, just know this chamber will help me get stronger or rather if this test goes well, I should be able to build a better chamber and actually put my idea into practice.”

Monsuta nodded happily.

“If you say so Kazuki. So what can I do to help!?”

Kazuki was dumbfounded for a moment.

(I’ll just give him some task. He was making Monsuta rock for me earlier before he started practicing.)

“Mpnsuta how much Monsuta rock have you made so far?”

Monsuta pointed in a certain corner of the cave with his tail. With a curl of said tail, Monsuta’s aura wrapped around several large chunks of Monsuta stone and pulled them through the air.

*THud thud Thud Thud thud*

A few piles as big as Kazuki fell onto the ground nearby cracking the surface where they landed.

As Kazuki continued to assemble his chamber, he walked over to one of the Monsuta stones and an idea came to him.

“Monsuta, even though you made this, is it possible I can take control of it? Lets say I place some of my aura into it, could I then manipulate this rock to my own design?”

Monsuta shrugged.

“I don’t know. All I know is I put my own aura into it while it’s in my belly. Once it’s out of my belly I can then change its shape with my aura. Once I take my aura back, it just crumbles away.”

Kazuki had placed some of his aura in the dust from one of Monsuta’s crumbled rocks. When he did so, he felt the effects Monsuta spoke of. He could sense it blocking some of his magic and aura but he hadn’t actually tried to manipulate it.

“Do you mind if I try?”

Monsuta didn’t care.

“Sure go ahead.”

After the foul smell of stomach acid burned away from the Monsuta stones, Kazuki placed a hand on one. He then tried sending in some of his aura. The results however were exactly as expected. He was completely blocked.

He tried many different methods. He tried to change his auras shape and use it like a drill or spear. He tried aura strengthening, he folded it into billions of layers and even tested his aura breath to try and weaken the rock’s defenses. None of it worked. He even had Monsuta draw some of his aura from the special rock little by little while he forcefully tried to place his aura inside. Again he was blocked all the way up to the point until Monsuta withdrew all of his aura.

As soon as this happened, the rock crumbled even with Kazuki’s aura now within the dust. After failing over and over, Kazuki pushed this little experiment to the side for now as his chamber was finished.

Monsuta looked at the strange shape in awe. It was not a perfect sphere and all the edges were rough as it was made up entirely of triangles. Still, Monsuta found it to be awesome.

“Awesome!”

Kazuki looked the chamber up and down and nodded in satisfaction. Without another word, he removed one of the stone slates and entered the chamber. With a thought, the triangle floated back into place and the chamber was now sealed completely shut.

Monsuta was envious.

“Kazuki what’s it like in there? I want to see! Hey, can you hear me?”

Not seeing Kazuki caused Monsuta to worry. Even though Monsuta had aura and could easily sense that Kazuki was fine, his simple thoughts made him overlook his own abilities.

Just a sMonsuta was starting to worry, Kazuki reassured him.

“Monsuta, I’m right here, I haven’t left you and I’m fine so calm yourself ok.”

Monsuta relaxed after getting a response.

“Next time you should answer me right away, otherwise I won’t know if everything is alright.”

“Yes yes, now relax while I test this out.”

Monsuta circled the chamber before finally sitting down and waiting.

Meanwhile, inside the chamber, Kazuki’s hands began to move faster and faster with the ancient hand symbols.

(I’ll try out Monsuta’s rocks later, for now, let me see if I can remove all of this magical energy by myself. First, I need to fill up this space.)

With a glow in his eye, he activated his hand signs. The inside of the chamber was enough to fit four or five Kazuki’s in total. In a flash, the entire space was filled with solid ice.
