Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 29
After absorbing the fire energy within the white ape beast, Kazuki felt his soul and strength grow ever so slightly. With this small bit of added strength, his body acclimated just a tiny bit more. His back straightened, and his legs wobbled no more under the suppression of this world.
“I feel like I’ve grown an inch taller, and my breathing has improved. Now, onto my curiosity.”
Kazuki’s aura entered the corpse of the white ape and he took a look around. What he found confused him or rather what he didn’t find.
“Just like I thought, no beast core.”
Monsuta tore off the creature’s stone-like hand and gnashed it between his teeth before gulping it down. Licking the green blood around his lips, he asked.
“Beast core…What’s that?”
Kazuki gave a brief explanation.
“Everywhere I’ve gone. Every beast-like creature I’ve encountered that was not at the very least a Demigod had a Beats core inside them. The only exception outside of this are Titans, but these creatures are not made up of pure energy. It doesn’t make sense. There should be a magical beast core but there’s nothing. In fact, all of this creature’s power seems to be contained specifically in the soul as well as the body itself.”
Kazuki’s magical power came from his core which was connected to his mind soul and body. In ways they were one thing and in others they were all individual. It was a weird state of being and not being. Kazuki had wondered why when he first arrived here, the beasts Monsuta killed did not immediately explode from the beast cores going out of control.
At first, he wondered if Monsuta’s attacks contained aura and he destroyed the creature’s souls with a soul attack but he found out that wasn’t the case. Instead, when a creature died in this world, their souls seemed to be devoured almost instantly by the primordial flame.
Kazuki Had explored countless Lower Realms and never has he witnessed or experienced such a thing.
(Why is this world so different compared to the rest of the universe?)
Kazuki had no answer but figured it had to be connected to the primordial flame or rather whoever was the true owner of the primordial flame. A being of immeasurable power that it can, just like Belux, suppress a world full of Gods. His natural curiosity had him questioning this planet and the powers that be. This mystery wasn’t really important but Kauzki really wanted to know more about this strange world.
(The more I uncover and learn about this place, the more questions I have. This place is truly one of a kind.)
While Kauzki was lost in thought, Monsuta looked at the rest of the ape’s corpse.
“I don’t know about these beast core things or whatever but does this mean you’re done with this tasty one? If you don’t hurry up I’m going to eat the rest of it you know.”
Kazuki shook his head. He did have an incredible appetite, especially after awakening on this world but the ape was simply too tough. Even if he wanted to eat the white ape, his teeth would most likely break well before he ever bit through the flesh.
“Forget it, you eat and I’ll absorb the fire energy spilling from this body.”
Monsuta liked that a sit meant more food for him. Without another word, his face was buried in the dead beast and he began eating without restraint. Meanwhile, Kazuki began absorbing as much fire energy from the corpse as possible before Monsuta ate everything up.
His soul world, or rather, his core, was like a mighty forge as he took in the fresh energy. His core could separate the energies automatically, but it was slower and less efficient. On top of that, it could not purify the energy to the same degree that Kazuki could manually. Kazuki’s understanding of the different fire energies in this world had expanded to a wide degree. Now this energy was much easier to understand and handle.
Anything he couldn’t handle, he would ask Monsuta to break off a piece so they could bring it back to his special chamber back at the cave. In there he would take several years within his soul world learning and understanding such fire energy. Thankfully though, he did not run into that problem with this ape’s fire energy.
He promptly found the impurities within this energy and burned them away, leaving a much purer power. This wasn’t quite enough to feed his soul though and cause more growth. Because of this, he continued to absorb energy and purify and separate it until he built up a large enough source.
By the time Monsuta finished the ape, Kazuki finally took the accumulated and purified energy and fed it to his soul tree. The soul tree grew a new leaf here and there. Some red and others orange.
Opening his eyes, Kazuki took in a deep drawn-out breath before releasing it. His powers had grown once more. With only a small struggle, Kazuki stood up without a single tremor in his body. His frame was stronger, tougher even. He could feel his blood pumping faster and his body was taking in the surrounding energy slightly faster and with more abundance.
As he finished this breath, a spark of flame ignited for a split second. It was almost as if he breathed fire.
Monsuta looked at Kazuki with a slightly tilted head.
“Kazuki, you can breathe fire. hehe, you’re just like me.”
Kazuki chuckled lightly and shook his head.
“Heh, if I was really like you, what would I have to fear in this world.”
“I wish I was that brave. Though I’m more confident in dealing with the shirkers. I would still never actually fight them. My fire breath would do nothing to them that’s for sure. Also, the hateful creatures that look similar to you, I still would not like to face them.”
Kazuki was surprised.
“Really. You just got stronger after taking back your aura from all those statues. Even with this strength, you wouldn’t fight them?”
Monsuta seemed sad and didn’t answer so Kazuki changed the topic.
“Ok ok, let’s forget about those things. They’re not here so it’s pointless to think about something that won’t happen. Instead, you still look hungry and I know damn well I want more power. Let’s say we get back to hunting.”
Monsuta liked that very much. With his tail wagging, he scooped up Kazuki and raced off without hesitation.
After a few hours, the blue sun was starting to set. Monsuta had not let Kazuki down and had hunted well over a thousand creatures. Kazuki did not have to worry about Monsuta getting full. His body and power were such that he could easily burn everything away in his gut with ease. Monsuta could easily eat mountains worth of food and more. As a matter of fact, the creatures he had hunted were insanely huge.
Not only were they huge but they were also incredibly dangerous. If it were Kazuki alone, he would have died after the very first encounter. Thankfully Monsuta was there. Because of this, Kazuki’s strength was already experiencing an explosion of growth. His primordial flame grew stronger and stronger and so to did his soul and body.
If at the start of the day, he could stand up but only with a bit of a struggle. After a day’s worth of hunting, he could now run at a half-decent pace without being out of breath.
Not only that, he had not even absorbed half of the creatures Monsuta hunted. A part of that was because there were different fire energies he could not identify. The biggest reason however was again Monsuta’s extreme appetite. It seemed that he only really hunted so as to not starve. Now though there was a goal and it had become fun for him.
“I hope I didn’t turn you into a hunting monster. At the rate your going, I’m afraid there will be nothing left after a week or two.”
Monsuta laughed.
“Impossible. I usually hunt a few hundred creatures a day. I’ve only increased my rate of hunting a few times. Plus, the creatures in my world grow really really fast. It took me only a month to reach half my size now.”
Kazuki looked Monsuta up and down.
“A month! Why in the 7 realms of hell do you grow so fast?”
Monsuta tapped his chin with the end of his tail for a moment in thought.
“Um, that’s just how it goes. If I didn’t grow fast enough I would have been killed quickly. In my world, you have to grow fast or you become the food for others.”
This made sense to Kazuki. It was that and the fact that things grew with the primordial flame and the fire energy of this world. This world was abundant and saturated with fire energy. Whether it be the sparse plant life to the creatures of this world to a literal rock. Everything seemed to have some kind of fire energy inside of it.
Just as Kazuki and Monsuta began to head back to the cave, to their shock, the sound of a howling shriek rang out in the distance.
*SHRRRRRRRREEEEEE!*
