Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 50
After delivering his warning or threat to Kazuki, Verick took a few steps back and stared straight ahead as if he were lost in thought. In actuality, he was simply waiting. Kazuki wondered what form when the sound of footsteps entered his ear.
There was seemingly nothing around this open field beside the statue on the other end, yet the sound of steps was clear.
A red cloud formed next to Verick and Kauzki could see the blurred frame of a tall person inside the red cloud. The cloud disappeared and in its place was a tall creature of the same species as Verick.
This person was nearly a head taller than Verick but also slightly shorter than Bodock. This creature was almost 9 feet in height. Looking similar to Bodock in nearly every way, the only difference was this person had a sharper chin, slanted eyebrows, and a few other narrower features.
Just like Bodock, this man had a powerful aura. It was the same monstrous aura Kazuki had felt just before he stepped into this red city.
(So he’s the source of this tyrannical aura. Just standing nearby is enough to suffocate one.)
Kazuki’s thoughts were not pulled from his ass. The moment this person appeared, all of the other creatures besides Kazuki and Monsuta were still capable of breathing under this aura.
When this newly arrived being saw this, a strange devilish smile appeared on his face. With a part of his lips, he spoke with a confidence and arrogance hard matched by any other.
“So these are my new slaves. Verick, you even brought me two special toys. Gooooood.”
Verick bowed respectfully.
“Master, these two were in conflict with one of the five giant kings. As soon as I saw them, I knew you had to have them.”
The so-called master flashed a look of pleasant surprise.
“And they managed to not die. You really have brought me something special. A sharptooth and a human.”
The master took a few steps forward. His movements were steady and unwavering as if he controlled everything and everyone. He walked with an empty hand behind his back. An odd trait. Almost as if he were faking dignity or pretending to carry himself respectfully. It was just pretentious enough to draw Kazuki’s curiosity but nothing more.
Standing in front of Monsuta, this master grabbed at one of Monsuta’s large fangs, and before Monsuta could react, he ripped it out with little force.
Monsuta roared in pain and on reflex opened his mouth to bite the master in half.
(MONSUTA NO!)
Kazuki tried to stop Monsuta but Monsuta moved too quickly. His teeth landed upon the master’s flesh but to Monsuta’s surprise, his sharp teeth did not penetrate the master in any way shape, or form.
The master smiled and his tail that was wrapped around his waist like a belt. Came undone and whipped Monsuta with a brunt force.
*Bang*
Monsuta was knocked backward, his lower jaw splitting from one end to the other. Monsuta whimpered and saw that all of his teeth were shattered and scattered about on the ground. The master took a single step forward and appeared before Monsuta with his tail held high. A fiendish expression covered his face.
“A mere bug like you dares to bite me. It looks like you need to be taught who is the master and who is the slave.”
His tail came down with untold power.
*BOOOOOOM!*
The ground split apart and a large crater formed as the entire city shook violently.
(MONSUTA!)
Kazuki ran over and leaped down into the crater. Monsuta had just barely recovered earlier and he was still not at 100%. Now he was worse off than before. He was crushed under the master’s might and blood was continuously spilling from his wounds before vaporizing. He was already unconscious and was on the verge of death.
“Hmm, another one who does not know his place.”
The master lifted his tail high above Kazuki’s head and was about to swing it down when Kazuki quickly knelt down and cried out in desperation.
“Forgive us MASTER!”
The master’s tail stopped just before splitting Kauzki’s head open. With a small tilt of his head, he smirked.
“Oh…So there s one with intelligence among you. I suppose it makes sense for a human.”
Kazuki felt his heart burn with fury having to submit like this but if he didn’t his friend would have died right there and then.
Just when he thought the Master had forgiven them, the tail moved once more and slapped Kazuki square in the face. Kazuki’s mind buzzed and he lost consciousness for a split second. His eyes flipped open a fraction of a second later and he found himself lying on the ground. The master stood over him, he stepped on Kazuki’s head and spoke coldly.
“Never go against me. Understand human?”
Kazuki could not move. This being’s energy was so great that it was as if he was staring up at the infinite cosmos. The foot on his head was slowly crushing him and contained enough power to destroy his soul in one go.
“Yes!”
As these words spilled from Kazuki’s mouth, the master smiled. The master vanished and once more reappeared with a puff of red cloud next to Verick. He placed a palm on Verick’s shoulder and gave it a squeeze. One could hear the sound of bone crunching and cracking as he asked Verick.
“Why did you not activate the sharp tooth’s collar when he snapped at me?”
Verick still held a calm expression but there was a slight twitch in the corner of his eye. He was obviously in pain but holding back as he responded.
“I knew that it would not have mattered. A simple sharptooth’s bite could never wound you. More than that, I knew you would enjoy crushing that creature. In one way, you get to play and in another, everyone here is witness to your might and capability. Seeing your small display of power, none would ever dream of going against you.”
The master released Verick’s shoulder with a wide grin.
“Are you trying to flatter me Verick? You know such ego-stroking words will do nothing for me. I Mefius have no need for flattery nor do I need someone planning my moves for me. Do not try and overstep your authority like this again or I will be sure to show you a nice painful ending.”
Vercik bowed once more.
“Yes, Master. I will never try anything like this ever again. Forgive me for my foolish actions.”
Mefius ignored Verick as if he wasn’t even there. His aura rose once more and the statue in the distance responded. All of the energy the statue had collected shot out of the chest of the statue and entered a ring on Mefius’s right ring finger. The moment this energy entered the ring, the ring took on a purple glow before fading half a second later. Mefius eyed this ring with an almost lustful gaze before he took notice of Verick once more.
“Where is my daughter Runa?”
Verick’s tail pointed toward the other side of the city.
“She is running laps around your city master.”
Mefius raised a brow.
“She just got back and doesn’t care to greet her father. The disloyal little bitch. I should teach her a lesson in filial piety. Maybe I’ll skin her alive this time or take an arm of hers or an eye. Let her suffer for a while.”
Verick quickly yet calmly spoke up.
“Master she is doing this for you.”
“For me…How can her running around my city be for me?”
“Master, wherever she goes she represents you in some small way. If she is weak or appears weak, it will reflect badly on your part. She wishes to grow stronger as quickly as possible so as to meet your standards. Don’t worry Master, as soon as she is done, I will send her over to greet you without delay.”
Mefius thought for a moment before nodding.
“Fine. I expect to see her growth very soon. I will check this progress of hers and I hope for both of your sakes I will not be disappointed.”
“Of course Master.”
Mefius was about to walk away when Verick called out to him once more.
“Master, what about the sharptooth? Shall we leave him to die, or should we save him? After all, Sharptooths were said to be extinct and are beyond rare. It would be a shame to lose a rare creature right after obtaining it.”
Mifus held up the fang he ripped from Monsuta’s mouth a moment ago and admired it.
“Your right It would be a shame to lose a new toy right after getting it. Don’t let the sharptooth die and send the human to me later. As for the rest, do the usual. It seems my time has run out for today.”
Just as Mefius said this a red cloud raced across the sky. It was Bodock arriving in the city. Seeing Bodock, Mefius couldn’t help but grow annoyed. With a thought, a new red cloud appeared and wrapped around Mefius, before both vanished in a puff of cloud.
After Mefius disappeared, Verick stomped on the ground. A large hole opened up and all of the creatures, Kazuki and Monsuta included, fell into the dark depths below. With another stomp, the hole began to seal itself shut, and the only source of light from above began to fade. Just as the light was almost gone, Verick peered down into this hole and spoke to Kazuki.
“I did warn you.”
After that, Verick’s eyes glowed and the collar around Monsuta’s neck lit up for a split second before the hole sealed entirely and the light was no more.
