Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 54
In order to catch a glimpse of only a partial inscription, it required much sacrifice. These sacrifices would surely take a toll on the mind, body, and soul. Were he to go about it straight forward, after doing some quick calculations, he found it could take billions of years. At that exact moment, he looked at the dozens of creatures before him.
If he used them instead of his own body, he knew he could reduce the time by severalfold. For a split second, Kazuki considered it before he quickly threw such thoughts away. He felt a shudder down his spine. For if he took that route, if he went down the path of harming innocent creatures just to gain his freedom. He would truly be a monster.
Kazuki was many things and knew how to pay back his enemies 100 fold but to those who have nothing to do with him, he would not purposely drag them to their doom. Even if it would expedite his freedom, he couldn’t bring himself to torture these creatures that were in the exact same situation as him.
Kazuki sighed as he sat on the hard ground.
(In order to delve into the slave collar it requires great patience and much pain. I can take it but damn does this suck. If I use the time difference in my soul world, little time will pass in the real world but the time I will experience inside will still be long and excruciating. A few seconds, a few hours in the outside world is millions upon millions of years in my soul world. To outsiders, it truly is seconds passing but to me, the millions of years are legitimate and are as real as my flesh. To allow myself to be electrocuted and burned billions upon billions of times to solve this collar…this will no doubt leave another scar.)
Kazuki combed through his hair with his fingers and brushed a clump of gray hairs to one side of his head. Even though Kazuki could easily turn this streak of grey hair back to his original black. He kept it this way as a reminder of what he went endured when faced with Belux’s artificial dark origin energy.
For 2 million years he was trapped inside his soul world as he took on the dark energy trying to comprehend it. Only after those 2 million years of repeated torture did he just barely begin to understand Belux’s energy and learn to use a small portion of it. Only then could he escape his soul world with his soul intact.
(It’s the only way. I’ll strive to understand the inscriptions as quickly as possible so I can break this collar and escape with Monsuta.)
Kazuki did not wish to waste any more time and was about to enter his soul world and begin when the top of the chamber began to open. As soon as a crack of light entered the chamber from up above, Kazuki instantly got rid of his floating orbs. With a thought they instantly fell to the ground and crumbled apart into normal rocks and pebbles.
The crack above opened further and a voice entered the chamber.
“That one, and that one, and Master wants those three as well. Bring them up and get them cleaned up. Master says his guests will arrive soon so hurry lest you be late in fulfilling your duties. You know what will happen if you fail.”
After this voice flowed into the chamber, several figures descended into the cave. Their large wings opened causing the air in the chamber to become pushed down. Six individuals landed in the chamber. Each one had a flame floating around them for light.
Just like the others they looked humanish. Large wings, a tail, horns on their head, and fangs were the main differentiators. Seeing these people, Kazuki was curious as to why they were already dragging others off and asked.
“What guests? To present slaves, is Mefius selling some of them?”
Hearing Kazuki speak, no, hearing him ask questions, these subordinates felt he was disrespecting them but more importantly, they felt he was disrespecting their master.
“This ugly slave dares ask questions and even uses Master’s name. BLASPHEMOUS!”
One of these winged creatures flew straight at Kazuki with the intent to kill him.
Kazuki welcomed this.
As the man charged at him and was about to strike him a ball of black fire raced forward fro behind and slammed into the flying attacker’s back.
*BAM*
The attacker was knocked aside and his body slammed violently into the side of a wall. His entire body was smoking from the heat and he was thrashing and twitching as he cried out in pain.
“WHY!”
A different winged man walked forward with a slow stride and he wore a twisted expression. A part of his lower lip was completely ripped away revealing part of his teeth and gums. Kazuki wondered why he hadn’t healed his scars. The man stood over the other that was still smoldering and barked.
“You dare mess with Master’s property. Do you not understand your place in this world you lowly maggot?”
The one that was hurt and still twitching was at a loss.
“But sir he
*BAM BANG CRACK*
Before he could finish his tired explanation, the scarred creature began stomping on his subordinate’s hands and legs until they snapped and broke with loud cracks.
The injuries were terrifying and the black fire devastating. All of this combined and the man could no longer take it and passed out.
The man with the scars turned to the others and he pointed at them accusingly.
“If anyone else dares try and fuck with Masters things, I will break you. It doesn’t matter what a slave says. If master doesn’t like it, master will order one of us to deal with it, never before. If you feel this ugly creature’s words are offensive, go and report it to Master yourself. Though I warn you now, Master will not sit idly by if you waste his time with shit like this.”
The scarred man then kicked the unconscious man to their feet and ordered one of them to carry him off and get him treated while also ordering he be docked a months flame.
After that the others quickly took a few slaves and the scarred man walked over to Kazuki.
“Do you want to fight me too ugly creature?”
Kazuki laughed inwardly. This scarred man asked him if he was looking for a fight. Even without exchanging blows, Kazuki could tell he was much stronger than the scarred man but at the same time, he felt no ill will from the man’s soul.
(How curious.)
“If I said I did wish to fight you.”
The scarred man shook his head at Kazuki’s statement.
“I wouldn’t fight you. I saw your strength when you fought the young miss. I know I’m no match for you.”
As he said this, he lifted his hand and showed his palm. A small blood orb appeared from thin air and hovered over his hand. Kazuki recognized the blood orb instantly. it was the same one that controlled the slave collars.
“However, I have no need to fight you. You can follow me nicely or I can use this on you and your sharptooth friend. I’d rather not though. Dragging around bodies is annoying. You walking on your own is much more preferable. Either way, I have a job to do, so are you going to make this difficult or will you just let me do my job and come along peacefully.”
Kazuki found this whole situation odd.
(Usually, in times like this the subordinate would be a vile evil being but this guy’s attitude is just weird.)
“I’ll go with you willingly but only if you tell me one thing.”
The scarred man was annoyed but laughed lightly.
“Fine if it will let things go more smoothly ask me anything.”
“This place, who carved it?”
The man looked left and then right at the chamber before shrugging.
“The ones who were here before Master took this city.”
“And who was that?”
“No, I answered your question, come now and stop testing my patience.”
Kazuki decided not to push things further. The fact that he got an answer at all was already more than he could have expected.
“Alright alright, I’ll follow you. No need to threaten me with a good time.”
The scarred man looked at Kauzki with a weird expression.
“You are a strange one aren’t you?”
Kazuki shrugged with a playful smile.
“That’s what I’ve been told.”
As they were making their way to leave, Kazuki turned to the large snail.
“Hey, can you do me a favor and look after my friend there? I would really appreciate it.”
The snail’s eyes bobbed up and down and Kazuki could tell that it said yes through its soul.
The scarred man again felt Kazuki was weird.
“You know those things can’t understand you right? They’re just dumb creatures.”
Kazuki nodded.
“Maybe, maybe not.”
After that, the two left through the top of the cave before it was sealed once again.
Once again the underground was returned to darkness. Just as the creatures down there were about to panic from the darkness, one of Kazuki’s floating orbs repaired itself from the rubble and floated above Monsuta and the snail.
