Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 62

The old wooden door behind Bearon creaked as Editrix pushed it open. Immediately, the odor of rot hit Kazuki’s nose. As soon a she took a step over the threshold, Bearon slammed the door behind them, closing them in.

The room was pitch black until Editrix called out.

“Light.”

Embedded in the walls and ceiling, several crystal lights illuminated and lit the old dust room in one go. A blue hue took over and Kazuki looked around him with confusion.

The room was no bigger than a small cave. All around there was clutter. Boxes and crates made of wood or metal. Each one filled with gems and ores. Glassware scattered here and there, much of it shattered. A few large tables were covered in paper stacked as high as the ceiling and covered in layers of dust.

From the entrance of this room to the opposite wall, there was no place to walk and barely enough place to stand without stepping on something or another. The entrance itself could just barely fit Kazuki and Editrix as they were surrounded by loads of junk and other debris.

Kazuki could make out the squeaks of tiny creatures skittering back and forth. Obviously startled by the pair’s entry into this ancient mess of a room.

Editrix again didn’t look back at Kazuki before ordering him.

“What are you waiting for? Clean.”

Kazuki was kind of surprised. When Mefius said he may have a use for him, he never imagined it would be to clean something. At the same time, there was no room nor time to complain, not when Mefius held both his life and Monsuta’s in the palm of his hand.

Kazuki grabbed a box off to the side of him and was instantly hit with a whiff of something decaying. Inside the box was a dead creature, something resembling a rat with a body that was more elongated than normal with swollen paws.

Its guts were hanging out and part of its lower half was crushed beneath a pile of ores. Tiny worm-like creatures wriggled within its open stomach eating away at its flesh.

Kazuki opened his palm and an orange flame appeared in the air. With a thought, this flame engulfed the entire dead rat as well as the worms in its guts.

The rat was just turning to ash when Kazuki’s collar activated.

Kazuki collapsed to one knee as the lightning and flames bore down upon him. He looked up at Editrix who was standing on a stack of papers.

“WHY?”

Editrix shook his head.

“Did I give you permission to burn things? Without organizing and getting an exact itemization of every object in this room, there is no way of telling its importance. You are not allowed to damage anything here without express permission from me. Even if it’s a worm-infested mongrel, understand?”

Kazuki nodded and acted as if he was in neverending pain. Editrix smiled before snapping his fingers and deactivating the slave collar. Kazuki gasped for breath and looked weakened but in actuality, he was the picture of calm inside.

(The pain I can deal with. This little shits attitude and power trip will test my patience to no end.)

Kazuki had already seen all of Editrix’s memories and understood exactly how to deactivate his collar if Editrix activated it but that would easily give him a way. Plus even if he could interfere with Editrix’s activating his collar the same could not be said when it came to Mefius or Runa’s teacher Verick. He had to go along with everything for now.

“How am I supposed to clean if I can’t dispose of anything?”

Editrix glared down at Kazuki from his paper mountain.

“Are you talking back to me slave?”

Editrix held his hand up as if he were about to snap his fingers and reactivate the collar. Kazuki sighed inwardly before shaking his head.

“No. I wouldn’t dream of it.”

Editrix’s ears twitched in annoyance before the ring on his finger lit up and a small bag appeared in his hand. Tossing it at Kauzki’s feet he ordered.

“Use it.”

The bag was made of some type of animal skin Kazuki couldn’t identify. It was covered in white short rough fur of some kind and smelled old. To this raggy bag, most would find it nasty but in Kazuki’s eyes, this was a price. He could tell right away it was no normal bag but instead a storage item.

(A storage item. With something like this, my plans can come to fruition much faster. In order to escape I may need several ingredients, ingredients that can’t simply be held on my person. The only problem is if I actually get to keep this bag late or if I have to return it.)

Kazuki sensed the properties of this bag and found that its max capacity was only about half the size of this room so around 20X20.

After investigating the bag with his aura, Kazuki saw through it completely and understood exactly how to make one himself. It was similar to making a normal storage item but the difference was this piece of equipment had natural space elements within it. From Editrix’s memories, the skin this bag was made of came from a magic beast that had small amounts of space element naturally inside of it.

Kazuki had noticed that a few rare beings had more than fire energy inside of them.

(Bodock has fire energy as well as lightning which is an offset of the element of wind. Mefius used a golden-colored flame mixed with waves of black. Meaning he has fire, light, and dark energy. Then there is Bearon. He clearly used darkness fire and the element of space in his attack earlier. This bag was not made with normal means. One had to first start with a special ingredient before anything else.)

Kazuki began to look at crafting with a whole new light and appreciation. The things made in other realms with relative ease could not be made under the same methods.

Kazuki began to clean up the room and he understood right away why Editrix had given this bag to him and why the small creature did not use the bag himself.

The storage items in this world were subpar at best. Could they store items, yes but it came with a cost. Every single item Kazuki put inside this white fur bag kept its original weight. A normal storage ring would be less than a gram or so, practically weightless. No matter how many items are stuffed inside, this weight would never change. Maybe on some rare occasion if the ring was severely damaged along with a few other factors. Only then you might feel a fraction of the weight.

Nope not here, this fur storage bag carried every ounce of weight with it and one could feel it all. Not only that but there was another problem. This white bag had no true power source. Meaning to operate it as wella s keep all the items stored inside without them spilling out. One would have to constantly supply it with enough energy to keep it activated.

The moment the energy connection was severed, Kauzki knew the contents of the bag would forcefully expel themselves as if the bag were puking its guts out.

Editrix was perfectly aware of this. Reading his soul, Kauzki knew that Editrix was waiting for Kazuki to fail so he could punish him even more. He had told Kazuki none of this information beforehand and was expecting a good show so that he could release some frustration. Unfortunately for him, Kazuki already knew everything about this bag and it was Editrix who had unknowingly given him this knowledge.

Editrix smirked as he moved to a table. He stood atop it and picked up a few pieces of paper and scanned through them as if he were giving them serious thought. In actuality, he was waiting to climb down Kauzki’s thorat and reprimand him.

Kazuki though would not give him this chance. Although the bag needed a constant flow of energy, and even though nearly all of Kazuki’s power was sealed and suppressed, compared to Editrix’s own power, Kazuki eclipsed him in every single way.

So long as he breathed, he would have energy and then some.

“Whether it be this bag or a billion bags of the same quality. I could fuel them all you foolish imp.”

Kazuki began storing and cleaning the room up. He found the final problem that Editrix tried to keep hidden. All items could not just be put inside in one go but had to be placed in one at a time. Kazuki chuckled inwardly.

(It’s almost as if someone designed this bag with the sole purpose of messing with someone. That or they simply were not thinking ahead when making this white bag.)

Kazuki did not care and continued to clean. At the same time, he could sense Editrix’s frustration.

(Does he want to torment me that much? With that much ill intent leaking from him, it makes me want to tear his face off.)

Kazuki looked around the room and he found not one floating observing orb. Seeing that they were not being watched, an idea quickly formed in Kazuki’s head and a cruel smile appeared on his lips.
