Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 66
Mefius’s tone was full of mockery and contempt. At the same time, Bearon was shocked. Now that Mefius had cleared the distractions, Bearon’s clouded senses were in full effect, and he could feel the strange power from Kazuki corrupting his soul piece by piece. Bearon’s aura erupted from within and forcefully pushed the strange dark power attached to Kazuki out with one intense push.
Along with the strange power, Kauzki himself became detached from inside Bearons armor and he was flung against a nearby wall.
Bearon turned and a sword appeared in his hand. It was covered in purplish-black flames. He rushed in front of Kazuki and slashed down at him with his full vigor.
Kazuki as well jumped back to his feet and tried to punch the incoming blade.
“Enough.”
Mefius took a step forward and delivered a heavy stomp on the ground. The room quaked violently as his aura spread across the room instantly.
Bearon and Kazuki were both knocked back by Mefius’s aura and held in place. Neither one could move an inch.
“Heh, I expected you to show yourself at some point but what’s with the dramatic fashion? Have you already forgotten the last time you tried to defy me?”
Mefius’s voice seemed to be directed at no one. Seeing as there was no response Mefius sighed. With a thought, his aura surrounded the entire room, and the blazing fires were snuffed out.
Mefius looked toward Editrix who was still sitting in one of Mefius’s barriers. He was petrified and there was a stain on his pants.
With a curl of his finger, Editrix’s body flew up and out of the barrier and was forcefully made to kneel down in front of Mefius.
“Editrix…where was the origin?”
Mefius took his finger and flicked the shaken Editrix directly in the forehead. Inside of the tip of his finger contained a certain power. The moment this power infiltrated Editirx, flashes of memories were transferred to Editrix and he understood what his master meant.
Editirx quickly pointed at the drawer Kazuki had tried to open moments ago.
“Master, the source came from that desk there. It took control of the ugly human and attacked me almost instantly.”
Mefius nodded.
“So it hid in the desk this time.”
“Master I can remember now. Why did you send me to this room knowing the source was in
“That’s enough.”
Before Editrix could finish his sentence, Mefius once more flicked the small green creature in the forehead. All the memories he had pertaining to the so-called source were pulled out of his soul and mind. Editrix’s eyes rolled up into the back of his head and he passed out right after. Editrix fell to the ground and Mefius simply left him there. Mefius shook his head before stepping over Editrix’s unconscious body as if he were nothing.
He took a few steps through the room full of burnt ash and stood next to his brother. Bearon’s eyes glowed bright red through the slits in his helmet.
“You knew this human had such capabilities and you didn’t warn me. The madness took him and amplified his strength many times over. If he wasn’t wearing the collar, I might have been in serious trouble.”
Mefius teased.
“Oh, I knew you’d be able to handle it. Do you think would risk my own brother for power, hehe.”
Bearon felt his fury rise once more but he was stuck under Mefius’s aura.
“You betray family over power, no, you Mefius would never stoop as low as a starving dog. Not now, not in a million years would you ever be so deranged and lowly.”
Mefius’s look turned cold upon hearing his brother’s words.
“Have you already forgotten what I am capable of? Do you think I was bluffing about your precious little gem? I thought we already went through this but it seems you truly need a bit of punishment.”
Mefius opened his palm and a painting appeared in front of him. The painting was of a frozen lake with a tyrannical blizzard covering the landscape. The painting seemed to be moving as if it were alive. The moment it appeared, Bearon’s eyes became ever brighter and burned with a firey light as he shouted.
“MEFIUS YOU WOULDN’T DA
“Goodbye, brother.”
Before he could even finish his sentence. The painting suddenly lit up and Bearon was sucked directly into it, disappearing from the outside world.
Inside the painting was a freezing Bearon. He seemed to be mouthing a few curses but no one could hear him. The corners of Mefius’s mouth turned upward.
“You will stay inside until you learn to show me the proper respect. Whether that takes 10 days or 10 billion years, either way, you will learn your place…big brother.”
The painting suddenly vanished back into a ring on Mefius’s finger.
With Bearon gone and Editirx unconscious, the only two left were Mefius and Kazuki who was currently suspended in the air. Rather it seemed to only be the two of them. Mefius stood in front of Kazuki’s pitch-black eyes and the darkness within his eyes stared back.
During the short exchange with Editrix and Bearon, Kazuki continuously roared out die. Now that it was just him and Mefius, Kazuki became rather quiet.
Mefius grabbed Kauzki by the hair at the top of his head and asked.
“How long do you intend to try and hide away? I chased you through three Realms of Hell including this one. I slaughtered countless creatures and am personally responsible for the destruction of countless worlds. You thought you could get away time and again and even came to this city to try and lose me. Now look at where you are. Look what all that effort has led to. I trapped you in this tiny little room at the bottom of a basement above the old ruins. There is no escaping from me and you know it. Now come forth and show yourself at once.”
…
Silence filled the room for only a moment before a strange guttural voice escaped from Kazuki’s lips.
“You greedy devious bastard!”
Mefius’s smile only grew when this strange voice entered his ear.
“Ah, there you are old friend.”
A dark shadow suddenly leaped from Kazuki’s body and tried to rush at Mefius but Mefius had already expected this and the shadowy figure slammed right into another Barrier Mefius had put up. The shadow was undeterred and after only a fraction of a second, it phased completely through Mefius’s barrier and went straight for the doorway.
The moment it tried to escape through the doorway, this time several inscriptions running through the threshold lit up and knocked the shadowy figure backward. This barrier was not one it could phase through.
Mefius tossed Kazuki to the ground and ignored him. Light returned to his eyes as he looked around.
“This is useless. Give me what I wish and in return, you will have a painless death.”
The shadowy figure kept trying to escape, It shot up to the ceiling and tried to phase through but again hidden inscriptions lit up on the ceiling sending the shadow rebounding backward.
Up, down, left, right, no matter the direction, speed, or power, the shadow encountered a barrier that knocked it back. It was entirely trapped in this room.
“You know you cannot phase through these walls. Even with no door in front of you, you still cannot get through. We have been through this little dance of yours again and again. Last time I really thought I destroyed you. You don’t know how disappointed I was then. All of my work, all of my time. I had to slay several billion just to try and appease my frustration. Something though kept creeping at the back of my mind and I swore you couldn’t have ended your existence so easily.”
The shadow continued to bounce around the room trying to find any gap, any opportunity to escape.
“I also knew how clever you were. The times you escaped me just when I thought I had you in my grasp. That cunning mind of yours thinking several steps ahead. I know just how talented you are at hiding your presence.”
“SILENCE!”
An angry roar shook the room. The sound of this voice was enough to shatter many weaker souls. Mefius had already raised another barrier around Editrix just in case.
Mefius shrugged.
“I know you. You were simply awaiting an opportunity. One single moment so that you could escape from me once and for all. You needed a being to possess. One with enough strength and power that you could perfectly control and use to break yourself free from here. That is exactly why I sent this human down here. From the outside in, he looks qualified for such a job and with a little more time he may have truly broken you free from this room. But…you jumped the start. I knew you would try and break free so I waited just outside the room, hoping you would make a move…and so you did.”
