Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 68
Kazuki sat in his tiny room and gathered his thoughts. His entire body had been possessed, and he had overheard the plans Mefius had. He was already on edge after having his entire body taken over. The violation of having someone control your every move was beyond reason. Mefius wished to summon the Primordial flame, or being of some type. Whatever it was, from the sound of it it could be nothing good.
Kazuki gently touched the collar around his neck. His finger traced over its leather-like texture.
(In Editrix’s memories, he was able to activate this collar with his will alone. An authority granted to him by Mefius. Not only the small green creature but Mefius, Verick, and even the lowly foot soldier Verut could activate the slave collars but from what I’ve gathered, only two people can actually remove it. Mefius of course and Runa’s teacher Verick. I cannot take either of them out currently but maybe there is no need to do the deed myself.)
Kazuki thought about the conversation between Bearon and Mefius.
(Mefius holds a card over Bearon’s head. The term precious gem was mentioned more than once. For Mefus to call Runa his precious little gem can not be a coincidence but I’ll need to confirm it. Maybe I can exploit this.)
In the end, things came back to the collar. If he could not remove it, then everything else was pointless.
(I need more information.)
He had used his aura to invade Editrix’s soul world down at the lower floors in the room that was previously guarded by Bearon. He could only do so because there were no floating crystal orbs observing him.
It was different on these higher floors. There were observing orbs all over the place watching and sensing everything. These orbs flew about the mansion and there were almost no gaps. Kazuki could use his own aura to look around and sense his surroundings but he knew for a fact, the moment he tried to enter someone’s soul world, the orbs would take notice and alert not only the entire mansion but Mefius as well.
(The mansion is under full scrutiny and has numerous sleepless floating eyes. Using my power inside the mansion will simply not work but the outside, now that is different.)
Kazuki stretched out his aura and made it incredibly thin. He moved it out of the mansion and into a courtyard. There were two servants dismembering a weird-looking beast of some kind. It had several eyes and insect-like legs.
Kazuki was about to try and enter their soul worlds when he sensed another observing orb. This one was slightly further in the distance and floated several hundred feet up. It was observing the surroundings. As soon as his aura came close to the servants, the orb began to turn in his general direction. Pulling his aura back, the orb turned away. Trying this a few more times just to be sure, it was clear, the orbs could sense him even without him fully acting.
(Only the room beneath the mansion cannot be watched clearly.)
Kazuki was reminded of when he was taken over. He could not control his body but he was still aware of everything happening around him.
(During my sad state in that room, Mefius and Bearon did not arrive until after Editrix screamed. I did not sense him using any magic at that moment meaning he had to physically call them for them to appear. Something about that room blocks out the power for outsiders to observe. Even when we were leaving, after Mefius dragged me and Editrix across the threshold and we left, the shadowy figure was roaring at the top of its lungs and slamming into the barrier but I could not hear a sound. That room may hold the key to hiding one’s aura and I am going to find out whatever secrets it may hold.)
Kazuki could not gather much information in the mansion or in the city due toth e observing crystals. They were ever present and always watching seemingly everything all at once. The most he could gather were the gossiping ninnies wondering about here and there. Nothing important and nothing that would help him. The only place without wondering eyes and ears was the hidden room several floors beneath the mansion.
Kazuki remained in the meditative position and allowed his aura to sink deep beneath the mansion. Very quickly it arrived directly in front of the door where Bodock was now guarding it. Bearon had been sucked into a mystical painting of some sort and Bodock was forced to take over his position for the time being.
As Kazuki’s aura came near, Bodock grunted one time and barked.
“What business do you have here.”
Kazuki did not expect this.
From all accounts, these Gerians seemed to have trouble with aura. They could sue it like a hammer but there was no subtlety. Kazuki did not think Bodock would be able to sense him.
“Did you not hear me lowly human? Leave before I come find you myself and peel the skin from your body.”
Bodock’s aura rose and he directed it at Kazuki. Kazuki could feel the crushing pressure in his small cell-like room. He needed to come up with something quick before Bodock really did come for him or worst off report this to Mefius.
At the same time, he moved his aura in a certain direction near the floating observing crystal.
“Still not responding. Fine have it your way.”
Bodock’s aura shot forward like a razor-sharp spear. Kazuki moved his own aura out of the way with swiftness and dodged it. The pressure on his actual body eased up because of this near miss.
The crystal nearby watched on but alerted no one and Kazuki moved ever closer to it.
“Ugly human. Have you lost your senses? I’ll break you.”
(Yes yes come on, attack me.)
Once again Bodock’s aura was unleashed and Kazuki moved his own aura out of the way like an agile monkey.
*CHTTT*
Bodock’s aura slammed into the floating crystal and destroyed it on the spot.
Bodock looked enraged and blamed Kazuki. Just before he was about to strike though Kazuki jumped in with a silver tongue.
“Wait! There’s no need for the animosity. I am here on the lord’s orders!”
Bodock raised a thick brow. His tail slapped the ground in response.
“What nonsense! You who just got here is
Before he could finish Kazuki quickly interrupted him.
“If not for Masters command for what reason would I ever come down to this creepy place? More than that if you check then you will see I am not lying. For if I am, you would have no need to peel the flesh from my body as Master would do it long before you. Seriously if you don’t believe me just go ask Master. Though I suppose he will be quite agitated. Not only did you destroy his property when you hit his observing crystal but you also went against his orders and blocked me. If that’s what you really want, that’s fine by me. It ain’t my neck on the chopping block.”
Bodock’s eyes went wide and he paused.
Kazuki could only make up this bullshit here and now. He noticed the first time he came down to the lower floors beneath the mansion, the number of observing crystals was much lower, most likely because almost no one went down there. After all, the lowest floor was a single corridor with a single room at the opposite end of it. You would only need one observing crystal for the entire space down here.
Even if the crystals were on rotation. it would still take some time before another one floated down here. That is why Kazuki had to convince Bodock in this short time.
Bodock gnashed his teeth, a fang piercing his bottom lip in annoyance. As a thin line of blood spilled down his chin he lifted his tail nd curled it around his waist like a belt.
Pointing behind him with a thumb, he barked at Kazuki’s aura.
“Hurry the fuck up then and don’t mess about unnecessarily.”
Kazuki’s aura quickly snuck over the threshold and into the barrier and room.
If one were to look from the outside in, it would seem like this was too easy, and to a certain extent, it was. All of this was possible due to Mefius and his twisted personality. Kazuki had seen the way Mefius interacts with everyone. He is cruel and brutal. Someone that cannot be reasoned with and deals in strength and fear.
(Bodock holds no affection for his younger brother Mefius and the same could be said for Bearon. Runa is terrified of him yet wants his approval and Verick even though calm on the surface seems like he wishes to murder Mefius. I may not be able to read him fully but I can detect malice in his gaze when he looks at Mefius, yet there is also a hint of confusion and loyalty. All in all, everyone around him is terrified to a certain degree. Bodock doesn’t believe some newbie like me would fabricate the truth knowing what the consequences would be if I were caught. Not only that but he obviously is not fully aware of what is inside of this room. Otherwise, he would guard it adamantly. Mefius must not have informed him, otherwise, he would have sent my aura reeling the moment I arrived down here. Mefius’s fear tactics and tyrannical nature have unknowingly caused betrayal.)
Kazuki sat in his room and wore a sarcastic smile.
(Good, now I will find out the secrets of this room and maybe the mystery behind this shadowy guest of his.)
