Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 7

ch7

After a few steady long drawn-out breaths, Kazuki felt the splitting pain in his mind and soul begin to fade. With a calm focus, he managed to stand back on his feet.

“Hey, little creature, are you alright? For some reason, you just collapse every now and then. Are you sick or something?”

Kazuki shook his head and denied it.

“Sick, no, this is something else, something that would make no sense to you. Anyway, about the creatures that wield these tools, can you please tell me where they are? I need to find them.”

Monsuta didn’t understand why Kazuki was so interested in the vile creatures that enslaved their own kind.

“Why do you want to find them so badly? Aren’t you afraid of what I said? Some of them are strong enough to fight with me, and they even have weird tools that can mess with my magic.”

Minsuta poked Kauzki in the chest with the end of his tail, knocking Kazuki onto his ass.

“See, you can’t even take a small jab from me, those ugly creatures will eat you alive or worse. You should listen to me, I’m smart and big and strong. You on the other hand are tiny and weak and a little dumb.”

Kazuki chuckled inside.

“I’m dumb you say?”

Monsuta nodded its huge head up and down.

“Only a dummy would want to go and look for those nasty, dangerous creatures.”

Kazuki could see he wasn’t going to convince Monsuta to point him in the right direction so he changed the way he asked his question.

“Right, ok, I won’t look for those bad creatures but I still need to look around and find certain materials. Just in case, could you tell me where not to go, so I can avoid those ugly creatures you spoke of?”

Monsuta went quiet for a moment and Kazuki wondered if this beast actually saw through him but to his delight, Monsuta did exactly what Kauzki wanted.

Monsuta’s tail flexed and pointed in a certain direction.

“Those creatures mostly come from that way. They sleep behind a big, big wall and only come out to cause trouble. If you want to avoid them whatever you do, stay far away from that place.”

Kazuki smiled and Monsuta suddenly realized what he had just done and stomped on the ground in frustration.

*BOOOOM*

“Little creature, did you just trick me? You did didn’t you!”

Kazuki gave a nod.

“Sorry, but I really have to find these creatures. If I don’t I might never be able to return home. How would you feel if you were stuck in a strange world long from home? Wouldn’t you want to return? Wouldn’t you try and do everything in your power to get back?”

Monsuta went quiet for a moment before he came to understand.

“Home…That’s why you want to find them?”

“Yes.”

Monsuta understood.

“Ok, I get it. I remember long ago I was once lost from home. I wandered off from my mother and couldn’t find my way back for a long time. All I wanted to do was get back and see her again.”

Monsuta became quiet once again before half a second later he snapped out of it.

“You’ve asked lots of questions so now I want lots and lots of gifts.”

Kazuki laughed lightly before walking over to a new boulder and cracking his knuckles.

“I got you, just leave it to me.”

When all was said and done, Kazuki had made dozens of unique statues as well as unique Golems specifically for Monsuta. After dripping a drop of blood onto each one, these Golems became Monsuta’s personality. Now the only person that could activate them was Monsuta.

There were limits to what Kazuki could build due to the suppressive nature of the power pervading this world but still, Kazuki was confident there was nothing else like these Golems in the entire world. Some could produce ice which Monsuta seemed to love. Others could move in weird and funny ways and put on plays just for Monsuta.

Kazuki was not all that original in the plays. He simply programmed the Golmes with a show or two’s worth of content. He had all the memories of every person back from Earth, using these memories it was easy to fill a few Golems with programming.

After making the Golems for Monsuta, the giant beast played with them for a few minutes before suddenly coming to an abrupt stop.

“What’s wrong, don’t tell me you’re already tired of these Golems.”

Monsuta was quiet and looked up at the sun. Kazuki followed his sight and saw a big bright blue star.

“Little creature the sun is setting.”

Kazuki could see that.

“Yes, and.”

Monsuta picked up all of the Golems and all of the pterodactyl corpses with its aura.

“When night falls, that’s when it gets really dangerous. Even I do not dare to be out when the sun goes down.”

Kazuki looked around and could see plenty of fires still burning. The surface of this world had flames all over. In the distance, he could see an entire forest on fire, and in random spots here and there, there were large open vents in the ground. Some of these vents had constant roaring fires erupting from them.

“When the sun goes down? It’s not like there will be no light. What is there to fear exactly?”

Monsuta was about to say something when a high-pitched noise ripped across the sky. It sounded almost like a squeal and a low rumbling animalistic roar combined. The sudden sound brought a chill up Kauzki’s spine.

“What…What was that!?”

Monsuta started to run.

“For now little creature come with me. I’ll explain later!”

The ground began to tremble with each step from Monsuta and in a matter of seconds he was already several miles away. Kazuki on the other hand had barely moved two steps. The heavy pressure of this world was simply too much.

Once again a high-pitched squeal combined with a low rumbling roar echoed in the distance. Kazuki could see the sun had gotten even lower and his heart began to beat like a wild drum.

“What is that sound, what can it possibly be for even Monsuta to fear it?”

Kazuki did not know where he could go and was desperate when Monsuta came racing back. Scooping Kauzki up with its aura, Monsuta dashed away at his top speed.

“You’re taking me with you?”

Monsuta showed its razor-sharp teeth and smiled.

“Of course. I can’t leave my friend to get hurt.”

After a few minutes, Monsuta had covered several thousand miles with his speed. As he did, the landscape had barely changed. The only real change was the burning forest. Monsuta carried Kauzki and the rest of his things through a dense burning forest. Kazuki had seen it in the distance and it was burning with high red flames. After actually reaching the forest though, Kazuki discovered that the trees weren’t actually trees but rather thick bones.

These bones were as tall and as thick as your average tree. These bones curved slightly the taller they went up. At the base, there was no ash at the surface. Instead, this so-called bone forest was buried in the muck. Something akin to mud and tar combined.

“Monsuta, that forest or rather those bones, what creature are they from?”

Monsuta shook its huge head back and forth while he continued to run.

“Don’t know, it’s always been there, at least I don’t ever remember a time they weren’t. Forget about that for now, let me focus. It’s hard to use my aura and talk with you at the same time.”

Kazuki could tell that Monsuta was visibly shaken and so he shut his mouth. Even after that, along the way, Monsuta dropped several corpses and continued running forward. As the sun got lower and lower, Monsuta did not dare go back for these bodies and simply ran and ran and ran.

Just as the sun was about to disappear from the sky and the roaring got louder and closer, Monsuta and Kazuki arrived at a mountain. There was a large hole in the side of the mountain several hundred feet high but its width was only slightly bigger than Monsuta was wide.

As soon as Monsuta made it inside, he dropped everything with his aura inside this cave. Kazuki of course fell hard on the ground and just barely managed to roll out of the way of a few bodies.

Monsuta did not wait. A large stone the size of a hill, made up of several different materials, slowly began to budge. Monsuta’s eyes began to glow as he wrapped both magic and aura around this oversized stone.

Kazuki could tell that this boulder was anything but ordinary as its appearance did not match any other rock in their surroundings. Monsuta let out a low roar as he used nearly every ounce of power to move this large rock and wedge it into the entrance, blocking off the outside world.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

The hill-sized stone fell into place and a bit of dust rose up and then fell as the entrance was sealed shut.
