Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 85
“Is my reputation already this bad that I’m referred to as the weirdo?”
Kazuki asked this in a joking way, but it seemed that Basha did not pick up on that, and she just right out agreed and went along with it.
“Yep! Kazuki, the ugly, weird human creature. Said to have many mysterious talents but also very very very odd. I don’t think you’re that ugly, and I don’t care if you’re weird. I just wanna know about your Golem.”
*Thwack*
Once again Desetos dropped a heavy fist atop Basha;’s head and just as before she grabbed her head and complained in pain.
“Dammit Deseto I didn’t do anything this time! So why do you keep hitting me!?”
Desetos shook his large bald head before pointing at her.
“Rude.”
Basha went to kick Desetos this time but Desetos simply caught her leg with his tail before picking her upside down.
“Dammit put me down you big dumb rock. It’s not my fault if he’s actually ugly. I’m just being honest.”
Desetos shook his head again.
“You are too much. He came to work and you pester him so.”
“What, if he’s working down here then that means he’s a colleague. What’s wrong with having a conversation with him and discussing our shared interest?”
As BVasha grew louder and louder, a crowd of workers began to look over to check the commotion. When they saw it was Basha and Desetos, many of them turned away and simply went back to work.
(So this is a common occurrence here. Here I’m supposed to be the one considered weird. These two seem to be the odd couple down here.)
“SILENCE!”
Editrix roared from the opposite side of the room.
The sound of hammers banging away came to a full stop and the entire forging room went quiet. The only sound one could hear was the bubbling lava vents all around.
Editrix looked over the small crowd and avoided Kazuki’s gaze while berating Basha and Desetos.
“Once again you two are causing trouble while I’m trying to work here. Have you forgotten that when I’m down here in this sweltering blazing shit hole, I have authority? That means I’m in charge and you follow my rules. How many times must it be said? When I’m in here, I only wish to hear one thing and one thing only. People working away and nothing more. The sound of your chattering mouths is like a constant buzz of an insect in my ear. It drives me insane and steals my focus. Repairing lord Bodock’s blade is no easy feat and yet you two keep talking. If he comes to pick trouble because his blade is damaged, which of you two will gloriously stand up and take the blame? Hmm…No one…I thought so. Now get back to work and shut those loose mouths before I report every last one of you to Master!”
The sound of hammering once again echoed through the shop as everyone speedily got back to work. Desetos as well, while still carrying Basha, went to his workstation and began forging some weapons. Basha glared at Editrix before giving him a face and sticking her tongue at him.
Kazuki couldn’t believe how childish Basha was. He could sense her age was several hundred years old yet she still acted like this.
(What kind of place did I actually end up at?)
Editrix pointed at Kazuki while not looking up and he ordered.
“You come here.”
Kazuki gladly walked over.
“You called.”
Kazuki stood across from Editrix. An anvil and Bodock’s sword in between them. Looking at this sword, Kazuki could see it was much more simple than he initially thought. With all of his knowledge of inscriptions and swords, along with Editrix’s knowledge of such a thing, he could see through this sword in its entirety.
Recalling this knowledge he was reminded of the knowledge of Editrix’s that he did not have. Mefius had returned some memories back to Editrix regarding the ritual from earlier. If Kauzki could take a look at these memories it might clue him in on even more of Mefius’s future plans. he was already aware of what Mefius wanted to do but he did not have a current time frame of when Mefius wanted to enact his plan.
(Editrix had to rush away to this room so he could repair Bodock’s sword. Mefius did not come n contact with him nor did I sense him suing his powers on Editrix when he left. This should mean that the information revolving around the ritual, and possibly when everything is supposed to take place…All of that information should still be in there.)
Kazuki was tempted to take a peek into Editrix’s mind. His aura extended forward and he was about to check Editrix’s memories when he felt a prickle down his back. He quickly retracted his energy as he noticed another observing orb floating silently in the room.
(Damn, I almost didn’t notice it. Why is this one invisible.)
This floating observing crystal moved silently and was completely invisible. Not only that it was incredibly well hidden and was even covered in a bit of Mefius’s own energy.
(Is this one here meant to watch me or the workers?)
Kazuki honestly could not tell.
(It should have already been here from a long time ago but who knows if that is accurate or not. Was it placed here recently or much earlier?)
Either way, right at this exact moment, Kauzki felt its gaze was directed solely on him.
(I almost made such a simple and foolish mistake. One wrong move and I am suddenly the most suspicious character in this place.)
“Did you hear me Kazuki?”
Editrix was saying something.
“Sorry, I was distracted for a moment. You have my full attention now I swear.”
Editrix’s ears twitched and he grumbled something under his breath.
“Why do I have to deal with these troublesome tasks when my time is already so stretched? Haven’t I worked hard enough, wasn’t I loyal? Why am I babysitting this moron?”
Kazuki continued to smile.
“If you don’t want me here I’ll gladly go back to Master and tell him what you said.”
Editrix finally looked up with a snap of his neck.
“Keep your doomsday words behind those stupidly white teeth. I don’t need my head separated from my body. No, all of this is too troublesome. If I send you away I will lose my precious little life. At the same time, you can’t work on Bodock’s sword. He’ll kill me if there’s even a scratch but you have to do something, otherwise you and I will both be defying Master’s order.”
“Why not just let me work? It doesn’t have to specifically be on Bodock’s sword. Master wanted me to help and said you were also making weapons. I guess for the upcoming battle with the shriekers. I can forge as many swords as you like.”
Editrix thought for a moment.
“You did create those Golems with relative ease and although they were simple, they held some mysterious even I can’t figure out. You may be a moron in some regards but it is true, you have skill with your hands.”
(Sine when did I become a moron in this guy’s eyes. Not only that, these backhanded compliments are already annoying.)
“Hey, Editrix.”
Kazuki causally called Editrix and Editrix instinctually looked up and met Kauzki’s eyes. As soon as he did, Editirx once more was hit with a soul-like fear and he began to tremble. He instantly turned his head away and looked elsewhere. His voice filled with anger.
“DOn….DON’T CALL MY NAME SO CASUALLY YOU BASTARD!”
This shout attracted the attention of others and once more Editrix screamed at them to get back to work as his cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
“Dmanit all! Fine, go over to the materials and use that anvil over there. Once you’ve heated the material and poured the liquid metal into a form…
Editrix quickly went over what to do before booting Kazuki to a small corner.
Kazuki already knew how to make a blade and all the equipment here was rudimentary. Though that was how most equipment was. When it came to making a basic sword, this junk was all Kazuki needed.
Once again Kazuki saw the limits of the magitech here.
He only needed to make some swords and that was exactly what he would do.
(As long as I look busy, I can send some of my aura down below.)
Kazuki analyzed the lava vents and found that not a single one had an observing crystal inside.
(Of course, there’s nothing watching the inside of these vents. Who the fuck would hang around in there.)
The heat and flowing magma inside these vents led to even hotter tunnels that flowed deep beneath the mansion. The heat from there was extreme, to say the least, and Kazuki knew no one in here could survive such temperatures. The green crystal gloves the other workers wore just to fish out materials from these open vents were evidence enough of their lack of resistance.
(I’ll use these vents to avoid the observing orbs, and I’ll look for a path to Yidriss and that secret room. I’ll get the answers I need no matter what.)
