Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 86
Kazuki was standing near a corner of the room, seemingly lost in thought.
“What are you doing? I said get to work so get to it human!”
Editrix was still snappy after his little spell of fear was seen by all of the workers. They could see that every time Editrix called out to Kazuki, he would avoid eye contact. Editrix couldn’t stand this humiliation and barked at Kauzki repeatedly.
“Sorry, I was just looking over the equipment. There’s only one anvil over here, and well, it’s damaged.”
It was true. Editrix ordered him to get to work on making swords but the only spare anvil was cracked on one side and bulged out near the back end. To hammer away at anything on it would only leave one with a wonky product. A half-baked piece of garbage that would be better off as a crude toy rather than an instrument of death.
Editirx found this to be the perfect situation.
(If the human uses that anvil, all of his work will be shoddy. My lord can’t blame me for the human’s incompetence at that point. Hehe, good this is good. He’ll take the fall and I’ll have one less annoyance to deal with.)
“Editrix, what can I do? These tools are badly damaged.”
Editrix’s ears twitched and he snapped at Kazuki.
“Stop making excuses and get to work. If you don’t complete your task it will be your head that rolls not mine. I don’t care how you make the blades just see it done and stop talking to me. GOT IT!?”
Kazuki could completely see through Editrix’s thoughts. Reading his soul, Kazuki found this short green fellow to be more than detestable.
(So he is petty all the way to the end. Fine. If it’s just making a sword, it’s not like I even need an anvil, nor a hammer.)
Kazuki faked a smile.
“If that is what you wish, I will get it done one way or another.”
Editrix laughed under his breath and nodded along while waving Kazuki away.
“Yeah yeah, whatever, just don’t bother me anymore. Oh and don’t you dare use any of the labeled ingredients. You can only use Kofu Black Steel or whatever is in the junk pile. The other materials are for real smiths, not some foolish human. Even if you can make a Golem or two the good stuff would be wasted on you.”
Several of the other workers heard this and felt bad for Kazuki. Using Kofu Black Steel was hardly an ingredient one could call useful. To add insult to injury Editrix also mentioned using junk ingredients. Those ingredients were junk for a reason.
Basha heard all of this and rolled up her sleeves in anger. She was about to say something when Desetos’s tail covered her mouth and held her back.
He shook his head and she bit his tail causing him to release her. Desetos bore the pain and was about to stop her again when Kazuki glanced over at the pair and smiled at the two.
(Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.)
Basha and Desetos were surprised they could hear Kazuki’s voice in their heads. They stood there slightly stunned. Kazuki on the other hand just gave them a thumbs up. They didn’t quite get what it meant but felt it was a sign of Kauzki being fine so they decided to leave him alone. Desetos went back to work followed by Basha, not before she stuck her tongue out at Editrix who of course did not see it.
(The two of them are actually good people. Even though Desetos stopped Basha, he was enraged at the way Editirx had been treating me. Basha also has a kind heart and does not like it when others trample people she thinks are defenseless. Funny, do I really seem so small in their eyes?)
Kazuki understood why they saw him this way and wasn’t upset. Instead, he found it kind of funny.
Back to what he was doing. Kazuki forgo the anvil. Inspecting the hammer, it was well-rusted and brittle to the touch. He could easily repair such a hammer and anvil with a thought but after observing the swords made here, he determined such tools were unneeded.
Looking over the many shelves and tables full of materials, Kazuki picked out the so-called Kofu Black Steel. These shelves were dozens of feet tall and stretched several hundred feet in one direction. Grabbing a chunk of this steel, it was slightly bigger than his head.
He also inspected some of the so-called junk materials. Scraps here and there, piles upon piles of metallic dust and shavings. All of which were mixed from leftovers. Pieces of cooled slag were scattered about here and there. Looking over the ingredients, it was easy to see why this stuff was considered junk.
(They literally just threw this shit in a pile and went about their day. For the most part, this is just junk but they don’t have eyes nor senses quite like mine.)
Kazuki could see tiny specks of something brilliant within these so-called scraps. These tiny specks were actually flakes of rare ores. All of which Kazuki already knew of and how to use since he had taken a look at Editrix’s memories.
Sending his aura into the leftover crap, Kazuki wrapped it around the precious ingredients and extracted them with ease. A small cloud of dust was pulled out of the scrap and began to condense in mid-air until it from a solid sphere the size of a grape.
He also analyzed the Kofu Black Steel. it was similar to other types of steel he had already come across. Within a fraction of a second, Kauzki understood its entire makeup and found tens of thousands of ways to improve it. If he were so inclined he could make their standard swords thousands of times stronger with a few easy adjustments. Of course, he was not here to advance the Gerians magitech. So he would just make a regular sword with a few slight improvements.
Kazuki lifted the steel with his aura and took the small rare sphere before placing them both in the forge. These forges could be heated in two ways. One was directly from the open vents and the other was with someone lighting the fire themselves and maintaining the hot temperature and flame. One would do this by continuously pumping fire energy into the forge.
Kazuki still wore the slave collar so using magic was not an easy feat. He opted to use the open vents. For that, one simply needed to activate the forge and vent simultaneously.
Editrix had not been paying attention to Kauzki but suddenly he heard ooohs and awwws as the other Gerians watched on with intrigue.
Editrix was surprised.
(How did he activate the forge? I didn’t tell him how to do that.)
Editrix saw many eyes watching Kazuki curiously and concluded one of them must have told him how to activate it. In actuality, Kazuki knew everything about this workshop and how it ran due to Editrix’s loose mind.
(Whatever, so long as the fool does not bother me, why should I care? Those bastards better keep quiet though, otherwise, I’ll show them a thing or two.)
When the forge was hot enough and the ingredients melted, Kazuki once more collected everything with his aura. The temperature was on the extreme side but Kazuki folded his aura several million times. In this way, he could handle the liquid metal.
Again the crowd got a bit louder as they looked on in shock. They had never seen someone hold something so terrifyingly hot. If it were them their aura would have melted and fallen apart and they would receive terrible soul damage. Seeing Kauzki do this was quite disturbing.
A few wondered if they should warn Kazuki but seeing him do this so nonchalantly they decided it better not to interfere, lest they break his focus and he drop everything, spilling the contents all over the place.
After melting the two ingredients down into a firey liquid state. Kazuki removed it with his folded aura. He then took out the mold for the blade before pouring the molten metal directly into it.
*Tzzz StTSss*
The sound of liquid metal screaming sounded out as the metal perfectly fit the mold.
There was no such thing as quenching the metal in this Hell Realm. Instead, the Gerians would simply add magical energy inside the weapon. In this way, the weapon would skip this important step in place of the quenching process, the weapon would absorb the forger’s magic growing stronger and tougher.
Again, Kazuki could only access a small amount of magical energy with the collar around his neck. For this, he simply concentrated and used what little magic he could muster. Even though it was a small amount to Kazuki, in actuality the amount of magical energy he had compared to the others here was astronomical.
Kazuki easily filled the blade with energy before taking it to the next step in the Gerian forging process.
To the shock of everyone, the loud and heavy sound of metal clashing against metal rang out, for it did not come from a hammer. Instead, something insane took place in front of these Gerians. Something that overturned their entire worldview in an instant.
*Bang*
Once again that hammering sound rang out but to eveyrone’s absolute disbelief, the hammering came directly from Kazuki’s fist instead of an actual tool.
