Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 93
(What does any of that even mean? Pull fact from fiction and fake scenarios. Are you not just making up shit so that you can get a glimpse of my entire soul?)
Yidriss was lost. He didn’t understand why Kazuki wished to see all of his memories. If anything, Kazuki should only need memories retaining the inscriptions in the walls and nothing more. At least this was Yidriss’s thought process.
(No, your soul, all of the memories within it—I could care less what secrets you hold. My number one goal is to defeat Mefius and get myself and Monsuta out of this place alive. I also already agreed to get you out of this room, and I plan to keep my word, but…there are things inside of your mind and soul that you simply are not aware of. The mind tends to bury things, especially when they are unpleasant. Trust me, I know. Besides the unpleasant things, your mind also pushes the unimportant to the back and you seemingly forget these things but it is in the mundane that you miss all of the clues. You have been trapped in this room for many years. How many times have you tried to figure these inscriptions out so you could break free?)
Yidriss didn’t hesitate to answer.
(Too many times…Far too many times. I have missed nothing. I have gone over every single tile and every single brick. I’ve inspected the cracks and crevices and every little bump. I know these walls and the inscriptions lining them I dare say even better than I know myself.)
(My point exactly.)
Yidriss was confused.
(What? What point? You’ve said a bunch of nothing.)
(No, listen to me. You have been trapped here for years and years and have yet to find a way out. You know it better than yourself you claim but in all that time are you telling me you’ve discovered not a single weakness? No lapse in its source of power, no gap in the inscriptions, not a single flaw or mark that would lead one down a path to unravel these walls. This room is a cage and in order to lock something in, do you not need a key. Let’s say it was merely a box that could not be opened. If that were the case then how can others come and go from this room but you somehow cannot.)
Yidriss’s eyes went wide in shock.
(Are you saying…I am the key?)
Kazuki could not be 100% sure but this is what he theorized.
(If not you then what? Let’s look at the facts. You cannot escape this place but everyone else can come and go. What are the differences between you and others? One, you are a shadow. You don’t exactly have a true physical form, merely a semi-physical form. Two you are an Artifact. A specialized tool with an ego that deals with a consciousness of sorts. Artifacts are mysterious objects, no offense. Something about you keeps you here, keeps you under the effect of this room. I have a feeling it is similar to the way I am under the suppression effect of this world or rather the Primordial one.)
All of this was simply insanity to Yidriss. it was so insane that it actually somehow made sense.
(Could this…be true?)
Kazuki’s aura tapped the nearby wall as if he were inspecting it.
(I can’t say for sure but honestly what else could it be? Out of all things, it is you that stands out amongst them.)
Yidriss slowly floated to the ground. his shadowy figure changed shape into a humanoid form and sat on the down on the hard floor. With a blank expression, Yidriss just looked completely out of it.
(How could I not have thought of this? After so long, it was staring me in the face this entire time.)
(Do you recognize my words now? You have been far too close to the problem this entire time that you have missed the big picture. I on the other hand am an outsider looking in. I’m simply following along with what I am presented and all signs are pointing in your direction. At the same time, for me to start completely from scratch may delay our plans. The longer I discuss things with you, the less time I will have inside of my soul world. I may have years inside my soul world but if even one more second can lead to Heaven or…Hell. I’d much prefer I have those precious seconds. Wouldn’t you?)
Yidriss looked at Kazuki’s aura and felt a deep grievance. Yidriss felt as if it had wasted away in this small cramped room for all this time when it did not have to. Had it known all of this from the very beginning, it may have figured all of this out long ago.
(What a fool I’ve been. I thought I had given up so many times before. I would try and try and try again. Each time getting my hopes up and each time crashing and burning falling deeper and deeper into a dark abyss filled with regret and despair and yet you show up from out of nowhere and offer a different explanation.)
The shadowy figure slapped its legs and jumped to its feet.
(Right, we’ve wasted enough time. I will show you my memories. Whether I suffer further humiliation from this point onward, no longer matters. Destroying Mefius along with his cohorts and the shrieker kings is all that matters. Kazuki, come forth and take a look. I will hold nothing back!)
Kazuki hadn’t agreed to kill the shrieker kings nor any of Mefius’s goons. In the end though if they were not destroyed, what would prevent them from attempting another summoning in the future? Kazuki knew that Mefisu knew how to summon the Primordial one but he wasn’t sure about his brothers nor Verick. He had seen Mefius take memories to those supposedly close to him and he could have done the same to others. At the same time, it was a safe assumption that Bearon, Bodock, and Verick knew the plan outright and therefore could repeat the rituals if Mefius really were eliminated.
The shrieker kings were a different story. These creatures were once Vazul and even after their evolution or devolution, after Mefius they were the number one threat to this Realm and everyone inside of it. It only made sense that Yidriss wanted all of these threats eliminated. Even if that could lead to more trouble later on, Yidriss felt this was the only answer for the good of this Realm.
Kazuki on th eotherhand had a differnt view. Yes, he still wanted to kill all of the shrieker kings and all of the smaller shriekers and yes he wished to kill Mefius and those with strength close to Mefius’s level. However, there was a different reason. Mefius was a threat to not only this Hell Realm but all of the Realms should he obtain the primordial one’s power.
The others though. Kazuki wanted to kill them because he wanted to. Having his freedom taken away by those stronger…this was not the first time. This was already something that boiled his blood. They should have never touched Monsuta.
Monsuta was child-like and even though he was incredibly powerful, he was not evil nor cruel. He was kind and friendly once you got to know him. At least that’s how Kazuki saw him. Seeing how badly he was treated up until now. Knowing the Shriekers devoured his family and chased him out of his home. It thoroughly enraged Kazuki to his core.
He could endure, he could take the beatings and he could handle being at death’s door but sensing all the emotions running through Monsuta’s soul, all the fear and sadness, all the pain. As far as Kazuki was concerned, Mefius and the others had sealed their own fate.
As soon as Yidriss gave permission Kazuki’s aura shot forward and dove into Yidriss’s soul world or rather Yidriss’s soul itself.
Up above inside the smithy, Kazuki moved on to the final step, and with a thought his aura and magic poured into the swords. Kazuki pretended to grow weak in the knees and he looked like he would fall over as he placed the swords on the shelf nearby.
At the same time, he quietly retrieved his aura from the lava vents. None was the wiser. It had taken him only a few minutes to complete over 300,000 swords at once. During that time, he had spent half a minute speaking with Yidriss, a mere few seconds sifting through every single memory of Yidriss’s, and the remaining 2 minutes or so was spent studying the inscriptions inside his soul world.
Basha ran over with a chair and put it under Kazuki’s ass, catching him. Kazuki feigned weariness and smiled at her. His smile was full of exhaustion, and his lips barely curled at the corners.
“Thank you.”
“Thanks, what thanks. Forget that, look at what you just did!”
The swords shone and gleamed in the light of the lava vents.
Looking around the room, it was full of admiration and bits of envy for what Kauzki had just accomplished.
Kazuki shook his head.
“You haven’t seen anything yet.”
Inside, Kazuki was smiling like a greedy demon, for the haul he had just gathered was absolutely disgusting.
(Mefius…soon I shall welcome you to your ever-lasting end.)
