As the three elements continuously hovered and rotated above Kazuki’s hand, everyone stared in astonishment and disbelief. Left feeling overwhelmed, no one made a sound for a long time.
(With this I can both throw them off to the real truth while at the same time placating Danny and Shin. With their hostilities no longer pointed at me, I can give up this small amount of information about me and at the same time regain their trust. Showing them this ability may even strengthen their belief in me if the cards are played correctly. Now let’s see if they can follow the clues themselves or if I still need to guide them to a certain conclusion.)
Finally, after a long while, Kazuki closed his hand and the elements hovering over his palm dissipated.
Wiping a bit of the cold sweat from his brow, Kazuki took back his storage ring from Tsura and sat down in the middle of the floor.
*Phew*
“Now do you all understand?”
Kimi was the first to shake her head and admit she had no clue.
“What is all of this? How are we supposed to understand anything if you don’t explain? You can use the elements easily even without a magic tool, since when and how? The way Master Garn described it, it should be incredibly difficult, no, more than difficult. I felt more than half my power drain away when I attempted to create a small ball of light but in the end, I could only materialize a dim little thing no bigger than my pinky nail. Yet you created a fireball the size of a fist and then two extra things after that. The power required would have to be astronomical, right?”
Asuna nodded along.
“Kimi’s right, not only that but those weird hand signs, I saw those before, what do they mean?”
Kazuki began creating ancient hand signs again, this time however he did them at a much slower rate for all to see.
“These hand signs, they themselves are my inscriptions and I am…”
“The magic tool.”
Before Kazuki could finish explaining, Danny had put it together and interrupted him.
“Yes, Danny. With these ancient hand signs, to put it simply it’s like I’m doing sign language with the ancient magic language. But not only that it’s like a feeling mixed in as well. Beyond that, I don’t know if I can really put it into words.”
Danny rubbed his chin in thought.
“This ability is quite unique. To learn something like this would surely take years of extensive learning, yet you wield it not as a noob but more like a young apprentice. If my guess is correct, could it be the memory you gained from the Magic Blood Orb in the Karada Cauldron?”
Kazuki nodded.
(Looks like Danny found the trail. Not much for me to do if things continue like this. Having a fivehead like him around has its perks sometimes.)
“Wait so we all get a weak little something from those memories and Ryuta gets the cheat ability how is that fair?”
Shin seemed a bit upset and directed his question to no one in particular.
Danny thought differently though.
“It’s not as strange as it sounds. Rust said, that besides gaining strength in that cauldron, we would also gain a few memories from powerful experts. The actual problem is whether or not what we gain suits us. For example, I gained insight into an incredible sword style and was able to unleash a part of it in the Mirian Swamp while we were fighting those goblin-like creatures. For me, though I hate to admit it, I am still not very brave when it comes to close-quarters combat and have not even begun to practice this sword technique. Even so, with no training and no practice in it, I was able to kill a stronger opponent using it. Just imagine what the technique could really do if used by the right person whos mastered it, that person would be infinitely more dangerous with it.”
“So what are you trying to say? How does that negate the fact that Ryuta got a cheat ability and we all got trash compared to him.”
Shin still seemed bitter but Danny couldn’t agree with his statement.
“Do you really not get it? If I was more suited for that ability or vice-versa, then I would crush opponents like they were nothing. It’s the difference between a white belt in martial arts and a black belt or an amateur and an elite so to speak. Just look at Kimi.”
All eyes were suddenly directed at Kimi and Kimi just kinda pointed at her face and with a bright smile she did a peace sign.
Mei didn’t know what was going on but mimicked Kimi’s smile and peace sign, trying to play along and fit in. Kimi and Asuna couldn’t help but squeeze her cute cheeks and giggle slightly.
Danny rolled his eyes and continued.
“Remember when we were in danger in the Mirian Swamps? That Scron Wolf monster pursued us to no end. Remember when Kimi snapped after Sam was injured. She called out in a menacing voice. [ “Devour.” ]
After that, she brought forth a small black cloud of dark energy. That energy entered the Scron Wolf’s wounds and did something to it. I don’t know what but an opponent like that, that none of us could deal with was suddenly halted in its tracks. Her strange ability gave us enough time to temporarily escape and recover a bit. That power of hers was incredible and because it matched with her natural dark element, I believe its power was compounded or amplified.”
Kimi smiled even brighter from the praise. Sam found this adorable and gently pat her head, which caused Kimi to loop her arm around his and lean her head against him all lovey-dovey like.
Danny’s next words though splashed cold water on her good mood.
“Yes Kimi your power was amazing, it’s just a shame that you didn’t use that ability again while we were fighting all of those Mangshi back in the forest. Instead, you lost your cool and fainted. Which in turn caused the last bit of your usefulness to fade when your light went out and we were forced to fight in pitch black conditions. So yeah, thanks for that.”
Danny’s voice oozed with sarcasm, causing Kimi’s smile to warp into embarrassment and then rage.
“Look here asshole that wasn’t my fault. I really thought Sam was dead and I couldn’t stand to live in a world without him. That’s just love ya know. Besides, I still don’t really know how to use that ability like that. Back in that stinky swamp, I used it on a fluke. Since then I’ve tried to figure it out but it just doesn’t work. I can’t summon that dark cloud thingy whenever I want. It’s not a magic button I can just press and it appears automatically so don’t blame me, you skinny twerp.”
As soon as Kimi started talking Danny had already put both fingers in his ears in preparation. This only fueled Kimi’s rage more. Sam pat her head again and whispered.
“It’s ok we all understand.”
As soon as she heard Sam’s voice, that boiling anger within her suddenly quelled like she were never angry in the first place. She smiled and leaned her head on Sam’s chest once more.
Mei looked at Sam and Kimi and felt a little jealous. Asuna saw this and laughed.
“Mei, do you want to lean your head on me?”
Mei shook her head and pointed.
“Nuh-uh, too much fat.”
Asuna looked at where Mei was pointing and her eye started to twitch.
(My breasts aren’t that big you brat.)
Asuna felt her hand had already rolled up into a fist and had to take her free hand and forcibly suppress her own hand with it.
(It’s ok it’s ok she’s just a kid.)
Mei then walked across the bed and sat down on the other side of Sam and laid her head in his chest. Sam raised a brow for a moment but didn’t particularly mind or care. Kimi, on the other hand, glared at Mei in displeasure.
Shin had his own thoughts and wondered.
“Ok, Danny I can see your point but that still doesn’t explain why Ryuta kept this from us. After all the shit we’ve gone through and you couldn’t tell us, why keep this a secret I just don’t get it.”
Asuna was the most curious to find out Kazuki’s answer. To keep secrets from her was not the type of thing her childhood friend would do.
Kazuki remained silent. He looked over toward Danny and wondered if he could guess or not. Not one to disappoint, Danny rubbed his chin in thought for a moment and came to a realization.
“Ryuta, this, I get it now. Your secret…You definitely should not have told us. Damn, this was a mistake.”
“Hmm, It seems like you’ve figured something out. Do you really get why I didn’t want to share this? Do you understand what would happen if the wrong people know about it.”
Danny turned pale as his thoughts developed more and more.
Shin was losing patience and yelled at the two.
“Can you two stop with the freaking cryptic shit. Can you please stop dicking around and just speak. What the hell are you two trying to say eactly?”
Danny felt his knees grow weak and couldn’t help but lean against the nearby wall. Covering his mouth for a moment, he looked around the room and felt the potential danger everyone was in.
“Ryuta’s secret endangers us all. Maybe to the ignorant his ability is just an amazing feat but Shin you are right. I now realize, that his power is a cheat. With his power that can bypass magic tools if someone were to get ahold of such power, the things they could do. Ryuta, just to be clear, your ability, you can use it to materialize any element correct?”
Kazuki gave a nod.
“Damn, this is bad.”
Danny looked around the room and could tell no one understood at what he was getting at and explained clearly.
“Don’t you see. If someone gets ahold of Ryuta’s power and they can use every element just as easily, the magic they’ll be able to control will be terrifying. If a person can only use the element of fire then they can burn things of course but if you can control both fire and wind, suddenly you can create explosions. The combination of powers creates more and more destructive capabilities. The potential of Ryuta’s ability makes his head worth a kingdom, no, all of the kingdoms combined.”
Again Shin felt out of the loop.
“You keep saying if they get ahold of his power but it’s his power. It’s not like shopping at wally world, you can’t just take his power off a shelf, take it to the register and pay for it with a credit card.”
Danny shook his head.
“Ryuta absorbed the memory through the Magic Blood Orb when he was in the cauldron. When I said his head is worth all of the kingdoms, I meant it literally. Have you already forgotten about the Mind Frey.”
