Varia was getting more and more annoyed fighting these weak soldiers. It seemed that no matter how many she took down, another two would pop up in their place and attack her at once. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the creepy Byki playing around and roared at him in frustration.
“Dammit Byki! Stop playing around with these ants can’t you see Muteki needs some help.”
Byki looked over at Muteki and Tilly and snorted.
“Yeah right. Do you not see the look in his eyes, he’s beyond thrilled with his fight. If I were to interfere, hed for sure kill me afterward.”
Two more soldiers appeared in front of Varia. One thrust a spear in her face while another swung a sword at her waist. The spear came quicker, so Varia with a flame of red wrapped around her hand, came down with a chop.
*Snap*
The spear broke in half but Varia wasn’t done just yet. With the flick of her finger, the flame covering her hand flew off like a dart and struck the swordsman in the eye-burning him with fire.
The soldiers swing completely missed and he fell to the ground gripping his face and screaming out in agony. The spearmen next to him were distracted by his companion’s sudden shrill cry and dropped his guard for but a moment. That was all the time Varia needed to kick the broken spearhead that was still falling towards the ground. Her aim was perfect and the angle was true.
*Gack*
The spearhead found its way between the soldier’s helmet and chest piece, lodging itself through the gaps of his armor and piercing deeply into the man’s throat. The soldier was dead before he even hit the ground.
Varia grabbed the swordsman’s head between her hands and twisted.
*Crunch*
His neck snapped like a twig and he too fell over dead.
Varia then wanted to go over to Muteki’s side but once more, several soldiers came forward and blocked her path, frustrating her to no end.
“Dammit Byki! just do it already.”
Byki sighed deeply before he looked back in Muteki’s direction.
“Varia you bitch, you better protect me after this, otherwise, I’ll haunt you from the 7th realm of hell.”
“Yea yea yea just do it already!”
Byki grumbled something under his breath before a ring glowed with a dark black light. Byki’s power gathered before he whispered 2 words.
“Abyssal Fog.”
A dense black fog rolled out and spread in every direction like black clouds. A few soldiers panicked and backed away several feet but the fog didn’t stop. Soon almost half of Edngaul was covered in pitch-black darkness.
Muteki who was observing the unique way Tilly was using her power felt pissed when he saw Byki’s Abyssal Fog spread out.
(Fucking idiot, I was close to understanding something. I’m going to kill that scrawny piss ant someday.)
Muteki’s storage ring glowed for a moment and an item fell into his hands. Placing it over his eyes, he imbued it with a bit of power. Two soft small glows condensed in front of his eyes and the world before him lit up. With this item, it did not matter how dark an area was. As long as he wore it and fed it power, the darkness appeared as though it were day.
After Muteki put his on, he could see his subordinates doing the same, while the surrounding soldiers were shaking in their boots.
*Haa*
(This takes all the fun away.)
It wasn’t long after that, that scream after scream erupted from all over.
Tilly took another swig of her alcohol, uncaring of the cries from the nearby soldiers.
Still, if this were to go on, her son might just wind up dead.
Tilly’s ring lit up and she clapped her hands together one good time. For an instant her barrier expanded out like a bomb, becoming bigger and bigger and bigger. As it expanded, all of the darkness went with it for a moment. Within a few hundred feet, all of the light returned and the darkness was pushed back.
The darkness though seemed to have a mind of its own and started to refill the emptied area after Tilly’s barrier expanded to its limit. This, however, had its uses. At the moment the darkness had been pushed back, Tilly had found it’s source.
(So that creepy guy is the cause.)
Tilly created another sphere of wind in her hand and remembering his location she fired it off faster than a speeding arrow.
*Hugck*
Byki felt a sharp pain at his side and fell to his knees. Looking down he discovered a terrifying hole on the left side of his stomach.
Byki fell over and coughed up a large mouthful of blood before his eyes rolled up into his head.
With the magic source now dying and lay unconscious, the darkness rapidly dissipated into nothingness.
The darkness had only appeared and lasted for a minute or so but as soon as it vanished, the devastation that happened during that time was clear. Body after body lay strewn about all over. Many were clearly dead but a few lucky ones would groan in pain. Limbs had been torn off or twisted in terrifying angels, while puddles of blood collected under fresh corpses. Even the soldiers that had inscription tattoos were not well off. Because they were stronger, Muteki’s squad had to put in a bit more effort when dealing with them. The result, of course, was miserable for these loyal soldiers.
Some had armor that was struck so hard, that the metal chest plates had sunken into their chest. Some had scorch marks upon their armor, which normally would be fine, but Varia was a cruel one. Were you to peek inside their armor you would find melted flesh. After the temperature finally lowered, Skin would soon begin to fuse as it had fallen in between the tiny holes from the inner linings of the chainmail worn underneath the armor.
At that point, even if they lived, to remove the armor would be so painful, the men would only wish for death when the time came.
Even now, one man lay lying on the ground twitching, spasming and screaming in agony. Not from a sword wound, did he cry out nor from a broken bone. Instead, The fat Abura sat on his chest. In Abura’s hand, he held the young man’s leg and munched on it in delight. The man was crying out in absolute agony as Abura continuously feasted on his still attached leg.
Varia walked over and slapped Abura on the back of the head.
“You fat bastard, were in the middle of a fight yet you’re having a snack. Time and place you fucking fat pig.”
Abura felt regretful and apologized. He tried to bow while doing so but because of his roundness, only his head moved a bit.
“I’m sorry I was just so so hungry and when it went all dark, I knew I could squeeze in a bite to eat. Who would have figured Byki would slack off. Look he’s over there sleeping in the middle of all this. Shouldn’t you be madder at him than me? I only took a few bites while he’s napping. Come on this isn’t fair treatment.”
Varia and everyone else did think it was odd and turned to find Byki truly lying down.
Varia curiously approached Byki and gave him a good kick in his side. As soon as she did though, a spurt of blood jumped up and hit her in the face.
“Eh, disgusting. Wait don’t tell me.”
Varia rolled Byki over and saw a hole that went through and through.
*Haa*
“How did this happen?”
Varia rolled him back and stood up. Dusting herself back she sighed once more.
*Haa*
“Oh well, it looks like Byki died.”
*Cough cough cough*
Byki coughed a few times and Varia felt he was staying alive just to spite her. She wondered if maybe she should give him a final kick to end things when Muteki shouted from afar.
“Varia get down!”
Varia was confused by this when something struck her arm.
At first, it felt like a mere sting from a bee but soon the pain engulfed her entire arm and it felt like a dozen arrows had pierced her arm. Before she could scream in pain. Abura appeared in front of her and hugged her tightly. A powerful torrent of air collected around Abura as he simultaneously threw up a barrier and leaped into the air and flew almost a hundred feet away until he landed behind a building. Varia was left confused but seeing the painful look in Abura’s eyes, she knew he too had been hit by whatever had hit her.
Abura slowly released his grip and fell onto his stomach. Varia couldn’t understand what happened but she knew for a fact that Abura had just saved her life. It was at this moment that the pain decided to up itself and striking her nerves repeatedly sending waves of anguish throughout her arm. Varia looked down at her arm and found a hole 3 inches in diameter in her bicep. She could literally look through her arm, which terrified her.
“EVERYONE TAKE COVER, THIS OLD WITCH IS MINE!”
Muteki’s voice echoed out and the rest of his squad did as ordered and disappeared from the street.
Varia stood up and took a step forward. She still wanted to help Muteki, especially if he was facing something so deadly but only a step more and something grabbed her leg.
It was Aburah. Only now did Varia look at his wound, only to discover his back was covered in many injuries similar to hers. Tilly had fired several shots trying to quickly kill Muteki’s subordinates to finish things but Aburah was quite thick. He had 10 holes on his back but because his body is considerably tough, and he had a barrier up, the wind spheres from Tilly had only sunk 7-8 inches into his fat body before they dissipated.
Abura struggled to speak but still he told Varia.
“Don’t go, you’ll die.”
Varia wanted to break free from his grip but the fatty was too strong. She gathered a flame around her hand and was about to strike him with it when Abura slowly rose his head and with tears streaming down his face he begged.
“Please don’t leave me.”
The flame in Varia’s hand dissipated and she huffed.
“Fine, whatever.”
(Muteki, you’ll be fine right?)
