A terrified scream ripped through the frozen village, alerting everyone.
*Ding Ding Ding*
The sound of a large bell echoed out along with a man’s shout.
“It’s here! The monster has returned!”
Kazuki and the others jumped to their feet. Even Mei’s joyful expression was now replaced with dark light and they all raced out ahead of the villagers.
Only Nunully was left to catch up.
In the blink of an eye, Kazuki and the rest arrived at a horrific scene. The fresh snow that had just fallen was dyed with a crimson red.
As a large creature held a woman by her waste between its largemouth. Danny wasn’t too far off with his guess. The creature appeared to be a large Centipede instead of a millipede. Its body was at least a hundred feet long and its legs were too many to count at the moment. It was incredibly wide, almost 8 feet or so. Beyond the width of t’s body were the legs that combined with its body made it almost 15 ft sideways. Its head had long pincers near its wide mouth, that perfectly held this poor woman in place. Looking past its pincers, the inside of its mouth was aligned with row after row of razor-sharp teeth.
All of this together is already frightening beyond belief but none of it compared to its head. Although pincers extruded outward near its mouth, the rest of the head looked exactly like humans. Eyes were as big as plates and were as black as the night but the shape and distance was just like a person. A nose as long as a sword but it extruded out and conformed like a human. The only thing really missing was ears. Instead of human-shaped ears, it simply had two large inverted cone-shaped holes on the sides of its head.
The face resembled that of a wrinkled old man. As it stared at its surroundings, it smiled sincerely like a devil.
This creature…a mix of an insect with a human face was truly vile.
The woman continued to scream desperately in pain as her shoulder bled profusely. Down below the beast, lying limply and cold on the ground was a slender arm resting on a blanket of now red ice.
*Chtschtcht*
The sound similar to metal scrapping was buzzed at everyone’s ears as the monster slowly rose the front of its body up like a cobra ready to attack.
(So the noise we heard in the cave was simply its large body moving about.)
A simple movement by the creature caused its body to emit cricks and crackly noises, similar to scrapping to ring out.
Kazuki drew his weapon and so to did the others, he was just about to attack when the villagers arrived.
The villagers had already made their way out with pitchforks, picks, swords, and axes. You could see the fear in all of their faces but Geil charged in while screaming.
“Save Alina! ATTACK!”
Dozens of men and women, whether they weak or strong old or young ran forward like a crazed mob and hacked, stabbed and slashed violently at the creature.
Several legs were cut off left and right from the villager’s attacks but the creature as though it was unbothered by this simply turned and began to crawl towards the mountain.
“Hurry we must stop it or another one will be taken away. Adventurers help us!”
Before that sentence had even fully finished, Sam had already swung his large Warhammer down onto one of the many segments of it’s back.
*CRAAH!*
The monster released a weird noise from its mouth before losing its grip on the woman.
Shin had been ready for this and with a powerful leap, he ascended 30 feet into the sky and caught the woman. Before he landed on the ground he kicked at the empty air releasing a powerful gush of wind that cushioned his landing. As soon as hie feet touched the ground, he dashed far way behind everyone else, taking the panicked woman to safety.
With just Sam and Shin, the creature finally gave a shit and turned back towards the village. Kazuki and Sam prepared to knock away its backside as a full 180-degree turn from it would cause its body to destroy several houses in its wake but instead, it did something unexpected and coiled its body like a snake as it turned to face them.
A wide grin spread across the monster’s face as he realized there was new prey before him. However before it attacked, Asuna jumped up high and threw one of her steel daggers at the creature’s eye. The creature wasn’t slow though and slammed it’s eyelid shut, protecting its exposed eye quite easily.
*Clang*
Even with Asuna’s powerful throw, her steel dagger couldn’t penetrate the creature’s armored eyelid and bounce away. Before it went too far though, Asuna teleported and caught it out of the air before landing in front of the monster.
The monster looked down at Asuna and its smile became wider and creeper. It rose up until its body the front part of its body was nearly 50 feet high before slamming itself downward like a meteor.
Asuna’s eyes widened and she hurriedly leaped out of the way.
*BOOM!*
A plum of dirt and snow flew up into the air and the ground trembled beneath everyone’s feet. No one could see anything clearly. Shin slapped at the air and a wave of wind followed suit and swept the dirt and snow away. Before the place was clear though.
*Whoosh*
A counter wind came through. Not due to wind magic but instead because of a large force picking up speed.
Shin could sense the wind coming back at him and knew an attack was coming.
“Everyone look out!”
Shin jumped upward and he caught the sight of the monster’s body sweeping through.
Several villagers were two slow and were hit squarely.
*Bam*
Their bodies flew into the air. The unlucky ones crashed into nearby buildings all dead, while the lucky ones impacted hard into the snow and came out with only a few broken bones.
The dirt and snow settled down and the creature began to coil once more. All the while that same evil smile hung on its face.
Kazuki raced forward and with strength in his arms, he stabbed his sword toward the stomach but.
*Clang*
Even with his strength, Kazuki’s sword couldn’t pierce through its stomach.
(I’ll have to use a bit of ki then.)
A ripple of energy flooded into Kazuki’s arms and his strength soared. Still, there was an unholy amount of resistance. Kazuki pressed harder and harder and millimeter by millimeter, his sword slowly began to sink into the beast’s belly. A small line of purple began to spill out. Even when its legs were cut off nothing came out but now, Kazuki had just barely drawn some foul-smelling blood.
The creature looked down with a grin and prepared to knock Kazuki away but then Nunully fired two spears of ice at it.
One grazed its side and spilled more of its purple blood. The other struck its back and shattered like glass. With this small distraction, Kazuki’s blade dug a bit deeper. Kimi fired a ball of light into the air. She wanted to use her solar flare but with this many innocent people, she would blind them. Instead, she launched an orb of light into the sky and while controlling it she flew it around the creature’s head to distract it.
Sam as well went back into action.
Jumping on a nearby roof he paused his steps. As the creature’s eyes chased Kimi’s light, Sam jumped towards its head and swung his hammer with all his strength.
*Bang!*
Sam connected and the impact unbalanced the ugly bug, causing it to tilt and nearly fall. The insect scrunched its face in anger and caught itself before it fully fell over. Seeing Sam, it hissed.
*SCHIIIIIIIII*
Using the momentum from Sam’s blow, it spun it’s upper body around over the houses. At the same time, it uncoiled itself and accelerated even quicker. This spin caused Kazuki to be thrown back but he caught himself. Sam though was unfortunate. Sam was just now falling from the air and had been caught completely off guard by this sudden whip-like swing. He couldn’t maneuver properly while in the air to avoid the incoming attack. All he could do was materialize a small layer of rock armor over his chest before.
*BANG!!*
The monsters metal like head slammed into Sam with a terrifying force, knocking Sam into several houses. Only after 6 homes crumbled to the ground did Sam finally regain his balance and stopped himself.
Kimi looked over worriedly but Sam slowly got up giving her a small sense of relief.
The armor atop Sam’s body crumbled away and fell apart into pebbles and dust. A line of blood spilled from the edge of his mouth but Sam still stood nonetheless. Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, Sam gripped his Warhammer ever tighter before rushing forward once more.
