“Everyone has their part. As soon as Asuna uses her Locking ability on the first one, you all should repeatedly make the seven symbols I showed you just now. The power you gather will be your element but don’t worry, that won’t affect the talisman as I have put something in place. Basically, your power, no matter the elements you use will be converted into the correct element by the talismans themselves.”
Sam and the others hadn’t even thought up to this point but Kazuki already had something prepared. Just how far was he thinking they thought. The more Derga heard, the more Degra became curious.
“Kazuki, if them repeating the ancient hand symbols or whatever you called it if doing that will cause a constant supply of energy to be fed into those talismans, can’t you also repeat the inscriptions on the talismans themselves. That way, the talismans won’t simply materialize one small ball of water and freeze it but instead bring forth, a theoretically infinite supply of water and ice. That is, as long as they continue to feed the talismans with energy.”
Kazuki heard this and was stunned. The gears in his head began to turn rapidly and a smile formed.
“An infinite supply, this…it could actually work.”
Kazuki sat back down and his eyes slammed shut and once more his mind wandered into his soul world. Not even a minute passed and Kazuki’s eyes snapped open. Without even looking at the others, Kazuki tore another piece of cloth from his sleeve and wrote on it with blood. He took the original seven symbols and modified two of them while adding three more. Looking at it for a moment his brows scrunched before he threw that piece of cloth away and ripped another small piece from his shirt.
He thought for a moment before once more writing in blood and after a moment he held the piece of cloth up and examined it like a mad man. His eyes seemed to wander over it a hundred or maybe even a thousand times in only a few seconds before he seemed satisfied.
Finally, he walked over to Asuna. He activated it and asked Asuna to use her power. Asuna eye’s glowed and she whispered…
“Lock.”
The talisman glowed and the ball of water froze in an instant. Kazuki then dropped the talisman and his hands flashed and his fingers twisted in a fluid motion. He used several symbols and he didn’t stop. After he finished the first set of symbols, another grape-sized ball of water materialized and since the talisman was feeding off the energy Kazuki was gathering, the ball of water froze in an instant but Kazuki didn’t stop. He did another set and then another and another.
The talisman didn’t have a waiting period and was continuously feeding off the power gathered, so it didn’t matter if Kazuki had finished a set of symbols. As long as there was energy, the talisman would activate and fulfill its task. So Kazuki found a windfall as the talisman continued to devour energy, it made more and more ice. It had ended up making 6 spheres of ice, while Kazuki had only completed four sets of hand symbols.
(This is unexpectedly better than what I could have predicted. Degra’s idea is incredible. He managed to come up with such a theory and he’s only just been introduced to this ability of mine. This power, it would be the most dangerous in a pair of hands such as his.)
Kazuki stood back up and walked over to the symbols he drew on the ground and wiped part of them away while drawing and adding on six more symbols. The original seven became four plus the added six which was now ten in total.
“Degra is right, this new set of symbols will cause the talisman to loop and produce more water and ice as long as it is supplied with power. We’ll go with this one. With this, we’ll break her tornadoes and an opportunity will present itself. After her tornadoes become unstable and fall apart this is what we’ll do.”
Kazuki quickly;y explained what needed to be done before he told Asuna and the others to quickly practice these hand symbols.
“Everyone start practicing right away. Mei, Tsura, and Sam, I need you.”
While Asuna and the others practiced, Kazuki asked Sam.
“I need you to make me some armor.”
Kazuki showed Sam his leather armor and after fighting with Triska it was already falling apart.
“Kazuki if I make you a piece of armor it will be too stiff, you won’t be able to move properly. Not only that, against that Triska lady, it won’t even take a single blow before it’s crushed along with you inside of it.”
“Sam, what did I tell you back in Treia? You need to think outside of the box with your abilities. Is your stone rope not tough yet flexible? Make me an armor set out of something similar. Plus, I never once said I needed it to fend against Triska.”
Sam was surprised by Kazuki. He hadn’t thought of using his stone rope like that but it could work. Something he didn’t understand though…
“If it’s not for Triska then what do you need it for?”
Kazuki pointed upward.
“Someone needs to go out there and release all of the talismans. That storm will tear the flesh of anyone that’s exposed, well except maybe you but I need you down here feeding the talisman’s power. Your my battery remember, hehehe.”
Kazuki’s joke felt like something Ryuta would say and Sam didn’t know how to feel about that but he went along with it anyway. He sat down and shut his eyes. He began to imagine materializing his stone rope but this time he changed its shape. using his imagination, he folded his rope on top of itself within his mind. he reformed it and molded it into the shape of armor. Finally, when he felt it looked complete, he willed his magic forth and materialized an armor set made entirely from stone.
It hit the ground with a thud but instead of cracking or breaking apart under its own weight, it bent slightly in on itself before coming back to shape. Sam lifted it up and felt it. It was simple and had no designs or anything fancy. It weighed close to 400 pounds but had flexibility. Sam squeezed a part of it and it took a good amount of strength before it cracked. Sam placed his hand over the spot he damaged and repaired it back to brand new and nodded.
He then turned it around and tried something. Using his power, he dragged a finger down the back of the armor and he cut the armor open from the back. This was different from using strength and ripping the armor or breaking it apart. Using his power his finger slid through the suit as though it were made of mud and he opened it up as though it were a zip-up dress. Sam couldn’t help but laugh inwardly. When Kazuki gets into this suit, Sam would have to seal it up like it was in fact a dress.
Sam put it back down.
“It’s ready. I’ll go practice the symbols now.”
Kazuki nodded at him and found it curious as to why Sam was smirking. Ignoring that he went over a few things with Mei and Tsura.
“The reason I asked you two over here is that you two are going to help me draw the ancient symbols with some of my blood.”
Mei and Tsura immediately had a house full of questions but time was short so Kazuki gave them the rundown.
“I use my blood because it’s easier for me to do so. You see, talismans have a lot of inefficiencies and weaknesses. Most tools and magic equipment uses magic gold to inscribe inscriptions. Magic gold is the best conductor for magic and therefore nearly all magic equipment uses it. I have no magic gold nor the time to use it so I am forced to use blood. All you need to know is that my blood is a bit special so that’s why I use it. Now, let’s get started.”
Kazuki wasn’t lying or trying to trick anyone. Talismans really were in fact terrible. Normally you could only inscribe a simple spell upon them and this was just one of the many reasons why they were such throwaways and people wouldn’t use them. That and the fact that they would be destroyed after one use made them not worth the effort. Not only that but they weren’t easy to use.
Talismans needed something else, an outside force to activate them as they would not activate on their own. If you needed a magic tool to activate them then you minus well use the magic tool to perform magic, that was the sentiment everyone had. Kazuki was different though.
He didn’t need an outside force as his blood was already the outside force. Talismans need energy to activate but that didn’t necessarily mean magic. Kazuki had ki coursing through him constantly throughout his entirety. Every muscle, every inch, and every cell had small amounts of ki energy within it. That also included his blood. His blood had ki and therefore could activate talismans. Combine this with his ancient hand symbols and his reforged Mage core, his limitations of simple spells on the talismans went up to a bit more complicated.
This wasn’t all though. In theory, he should have been able to use more complex spells like the one he came up with earlier. The thing was though he had never thought of it. It was only thanks to recent circumstances that this idea formed.
Kazuki got Mei and Tsura and Nunully to empty all of their storage devices and collected up any cloth that could be written on.
Kazuki got two cups and filled them with his blood. As his ki circulated throughout his body, his body quickly replaced all the missing blood.
Kazuki got sam to make three sets of ancient hand symbols out of stone. Sam specifically made them into makeshift stamps. The process became incredibly simple and fast. Kazuki demonstrated how to stamp. He took one of the stamps Sam made, dipped it in some of his blood, and pressed it down on the cloth. He then grabbed a different stamp and did the same thing. This time he pressed it down at the edge of the other inscription so the two slightly overlapped and touched. Repeating this process, ten symbols were placed and stamped in the correct order.
*CRACK BOOM!*
The side of the dome splintered and Nunully once again repaired the ice. Sweat was pouring down her face.
Kazuki realized they didn’t have long and got to work.
“Mei, Tsura we have to hurry!”
