Kazuki quickly divided his energy. Part of it remained layered around his brain to isolate the Azirian blood and prevent it from replicating and spreading inside of him like poison. With the rest of his ki, he started supplying it to his black ruler.
The ruler absorbed his ki like a dry sponge and although he couldn’t see it in this darkness, he could tell it was becoming razor-sharp and growing sharper by the second.
As the wind raced past his ears, Kazuki grew impatient. He had been falling for nearly two minutes and he felt danger ever approaching as he closed in on the ground below.
(This should be good enough. Now!)
Kazuki changed the size of his ruler in an instant and it lengthened to nearly 8 feet. Using his strength, he thrust it at the cliff wall in front of him.
*CHRRREEEEE*
Sparks shot out from the point of impact but even with his ruler packed full of ki and incredibly sharp, it had failed to penetrate the dense tough wall. Kazuki’s efforts were in vain and he only pushed himself further away from the wall.
(NO! MORE!)
Kazuki spun his body in midair and built up as much momentum as he could. His muscles bulged and the veins on his arms throbbed. His black ruler extended even further out and with his powerful stab once more sparks began to fly up from the wall. With this tiny insignificant amount of light, Kazuki was able to see a small scar being carved out from his ruler. Barely a millimeter had been cut into the wall and his descent had not slowed in the least.
(I can’t fail yet. MORE MORE MORE!)
Kazuki began to withdraw layer after layer of ki protecting his brain and pumped it into his ruler. As he did so, his ruler grew ever sharper and dug into the wall fragmentarily deeper. A millimeter became two and then three. Kazuki was making progress but it still wasn’t reducing his speed.
Kazuki screamed inside his head in fury.
(MOREEEEEEEE!)
Again he removed more layers from his brain and added it to his ruler. While his ruler sharpened, the few layers surrounding his mind started to waver as he changed his focus to his ruler and the wall.
One inch in and then two, Kazuki felt a tug on his upper body and he began to slow down to some degree.
(YES! It’s working!)
Kazuki was starting to slow but his speed was still at a rate that would kill him once he hit the ground and he knew it. He hesitated for a moment.
(If I remove the last few layers from my mind, the Azirian blood will run rampant but if I don’t. I won’t be able to stop entirely and I’ll still crash and die. As soon as I get to the bottom, I’ll have to immediately reapply the layers of ki and expunge the blood once again. I just have to hope the blood doesn’t spread quickly enough to dull my senses like before.)
Kazuki made up his mind or rather there was no other choice. He took a deep breath and pushed the fear out of himself with an exhale. He removed the remaining layers of ki protecting him from the Azirian blood and used the excess energy on his black ruler. Once more the ruler was sharpened to a frightening degree and pushing forward his ruler carved out a path for him. It sunk deeper and deeper into the wall. From two inches to three and from three to seven.
As soon as he reached that depth, all at once, he stopped. The sudden stop was too much and it tore one of Kazuki’s arms from its socket and his left hand fell from his ruler and dangled lifelessly. This much pain was nothing to Kazuki and he couldn’t help but laugh wildly as he dangled with his other arm.
*BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!*
“I DID IT! I FUCKING DID IT!”
“ROAAAAAAAAAAAR!”
As he was in mid shout, a loud roar erupted from below him. Some beast or monster down below did not appreciate its solemn peace being interrupted by Kazuki’s celebrating. Kazuki slammed his mouth shut and listened for a moment in silence.
…
…
(What type of creature was that just now. I’ve heard many beasts and monsters growls but that one was completely unfamiliar. Just what exactly is down there?)
Only now did a gush of wind rush up from the creatures roar from down below and with it came a heavy odor of blood. He might not be able to see in this darkness but Kazuki’s sense of smell had been enhanced several times over. He could tell exactly where the smell came from and he could now guestimate his proximity to the ground.
(That beast, it’s smell is strong and it seems to be coming from a few miles away. So that would make the ground about that distance from me as well. At the rate I was falling it would have only taken another 40 seconds or so. Under a minute and I would have gone splat.)
A shudder ran up his spine at the thought of it all.
…
Just as Kazuki was starting to feel a small semblance of relief as if to mock him, a low cracking sounded from above him.
*chiii chiii*
Without the sparks from his ruler, he could no longer see in this darkness but with his ki, he could feel the state of his black ruler. There were several cracks running up and down it and it looked as if someone took an unholy hammer and rained down blow after blow upon it. It was on the verge of breaking and Kazuki felt his heart drop into the pit of his stomach.
(Not good I need to get down before…!)
*SNAP!*
The sound was small but at this moment when his ruler broke off, it sounded like a bomb had gone off next to him.
Kazuki felt his stomach rise up and into his chest as he once more began to fall. Before he could think of what to do, his mind started to grow hazy.
(That’s right, the blood.)
Kazuki fell down once again and his body started accelerating faster and faster. As he fell his thoughts became incredibly bogged down and his mind ran slow.
(Have, to stop…gonna…die.)
The Azirian blood flooded his body and with most of his ki depleted and his mind hazy, Kazuki could no longer use it properly.
The smell coming from below intensified signaling the ground was near but Kazuki could no longer move.
His mind started to darken and his last thought blurred across his mind.
(Not…like…this.)
…
…
(“WAKE THE FUCK UP LITTLE DUMMY! NOWS NOT THE TIME TO DIE!”)
Kai’s voice roared within and Kazuki’s Soulworld shook. Kazuki’s eyes snapped open, a hint of red in both of them retreated from wince it came and Kazuki became clear for a brief moment.
Gripping the broken piece of his black ruler, with his ki ran dry and his magic not working at all, something within shot out. A powerful unyielding aura invaded the remains of the black ruler. With this split moment, Kazuki shouted at the top of his lungs.
“EXTEND!”
The broken ruler within Kazuki’s hand responded to its master will and using the energy from the aura, the ruler lengthened by dozen of feet and then hundreds until…
*BAM!*
The broken end of the ruler struck the solid ground below and cracked it. The stopping force ran up the ruler like vibrations through a pole and knocked Kazuki’s grip loose and he still fell from a few hundred feet.
*Gschink*
Kazuki felt something penetrate his back followed by a sharp pain. He wanted to try and sense what it was but he found his consciousness fading fairly quickly. All he could feel at the moment was a hot liquid pool around his back and his lower abdomen before the feeling turned to that of coldness. His mind became blurry once more and his thoughts slugged until he could think no more. His eyelids were heavy and shut by themselves. His last thought…he had none.
The Azirian blood with nothing stopping it spread and multiplied faster and faster and circulated through Kazuki’s body. It tore at his flesh and started to melt his organs. Kazuki’s unconscious body laid impaled on the ground, twitching and coughing up blood. Very soon death would be here to claim him. His skin began to peel and lesions formed all over his body.
At this time in the dark void, a small insect-like creature with 6 legs and a hardened shell crawled over. Flexing the small antenna’s atop its head it felt Kazuki’s presence and came over curiously.
It had no eyes and resembled something like a crab and a centipede combined. Two of its front legs had pinchers on each end and it approached Kazuki.
As soon as it got close enough, Kazuki’s eyes opened once more and they were now completely crimson red. Kazuki was impaled on the ground and thrashed violently as he tried to reach the weird insect creature. His mouth snapped open and shut as though he were trying to eat the small creature in one bite. The creature instinctively scurried away in fear and dug underneath a rock, hiding itself away before it was caught and eaten.
Kazuki’s wounded abdomen stretched and tore open as he thrashed about trying to grab at anything and everything that moved. His already pitiful state became that much worse and his body was dying from such injuries.
Just as he was on the verge of killing himself, once more the godly aura swirled from within him and surrounded him. Not only from himself but the compass around his neck as well seeped out and the energy grew more and more. It washed over Kazuki’s violent form and like a bolt of lightning had struck him, Kazuki’s body froze on contact before he became limp on the ground. The blood-red in his eyes retreated and his natural eye color rang true before they rolled up in his head and he was out.
