Standing at the edge of the water and no land in sight made it difficult to find a path back.

*SNAP*

Kazuki sent ki to his fingertips to amplify his power before snapping towards the water. The sound echoed out wide and far but it was hard to get much information back as there was little for the echo to bounce off of. Still, he was sure there wasn’t any land whatsoever for at least a few miles.

(Just how large is this river? Can it even be considered as such at this point?)

“Let’s see how far this goes.”

Kazuki grabbed a nearby rock. With the amount of fire element in his surroundings, he couldn’t keep a flame going for long so instead he gripped it and started slowly injecting it with the element of fire. Little by little, it grew warmer and warmer and then hotter and hotter. After 30 seconds or so, Kazuki had heated the rock enough for it to become red hot and emit a slight glow. At 1000 °F the rock grew brighter and brighter, lighting up a small area around Kazuki.

The heat was incredible but for Kazuki who not only could manipulate fire as well as having a terrifyingly tough constitution, this intense heat in his palm felt little more than a toasty object. Filling his arm with ki and using strengthening aura, Kazuki’s power climb to his maximum before he threw the rock over the river.

In this darkness, it was hard to see much of anything beyond 50 feet or so but with the rock glowing a solid red, it became like a small beacon in this underground abyss of black which in turn allowed Kazuki to see not only the rock but about 100 feet in diameter of the rock.

The rock traversed miles in an instant and Kazuki’s eyes with the help of the glow followed it every step of the way. However, after only a few seconds, the glowing rock collided with a large solid object extending up and out of the river.

The rock could not take such force and as it hit the giant object at a blazing speed it exploded and shattered on contact. Kazuki could see a small portion of the object that the rock hit.

(Some type of crystal. From here though I can’t quite make out what kind.)

Making up his mind, Kazuki decided to go have a look. It was better than waiting around doing nothing.

(That’s about 20 miles from here. I might be able to get a better vantage point from there.)

Kazuki grabbed several rocks off of the sandy shore and stored them in his ring. After that, he retreated a few feet back before running and leaping over the water. His strength and speed were absurd at this point and with his added ki, he covered 10 miles with a single leap. As he started to fall toward the open water, he released his aura and changed its flow. Wind aura gathered around him and his descent ceased. Kazuki slowly began to fly towards the giant crystal.

(The only bad thing about using wind aura is my flying speed is laughably slow. At this rate, it will take at least an hour to cover just 10 measly miles. If I could use more fire magic I could fly over there in minutes but this will have to do for now.)

Kazuki complaints would enrage merchants and travelers alike. For if they could simply fly and cover a distance of 10 miles in only a few minutes, they would be some of the richest merchants in the world with such a delivery speed. To Kazuki though who could cover 10 miles with a step though, this flying speed was truly annoying.

(Once my control over my aura increases, my speed will naturally increase as well but who knows how long that will be.)

*Gurgle*

As he was lost in thought about his slow flying, down below something raced to the surface of the water.

Kazuki was flying relatively low, only 20 or so feet from the water and when this thing raced up from below, he became aware just as it broke through the surface.

The creature’s mouth alone was more than 100 feet wide and with Kazuki’s speed, it was impossible to get out of the way. This monster only saw Kazuki as guaranteed prey. Unfortunately, Kazuki was anything but.

A small pulse of magic sunk into his ring before it glowed with a small flash of purple light.

*Schink*

Kazuki slashed down with lightning-like speed. The large creature’s momentum carried it all the way out of the water and Kazuki’s slash divided it in its’ entirety. It was dead before it even knew what happened. As its large body began to fall back down, Kazuki’s ring glowed once more and the entire creature’s corpse was stored in an instant.

In Kazuki’s hand was a long blade made from orichalcum. Oren had left him a giant piece as big as a two-story building within his new storage ring. The moment the creature breached the water, Kazuki used his magic to not only open his storage ring but peel a large piece away from the gigantic block and form a sword in that instant. Pulling it out of his ring, he divided the ugly fish like monster as though he were cutting mud.

After storing the monster he chuckled inside.

(Hahaha, you dumb fucking fish.)

Looking into his storage ring, Kazuki examined it. The creature had several fins along its side. Its’ body stretched for almost 80 feet and it had tiny beady eyes. With a tale that split into four large paddle-like fins, this creature resembled something akin to a whale. Seeing that its mouth was wider than its entire body was long, it was one weird-looking beast.

(It looks dumb but its nice to know if I run low on food again, I’ll have this lying around. It should make for a nice meal. If not tasty at least it will be filling.)

Kazuki once more began to fly toward the giant crystal mass but after traveling for only a few seconds, once again something approached from below.

*Sploosh*

Another large whale-like creature broke through the water and opened its jaws. Rows of teeth took over Kazuki’s vision but even almost being swallowed did not cause him to fear nor flinch. The blade in his hand sliced out once more and once more he cleaved another whale in half. Storing the body, it was only a few seconds later when another attacked.

Kazuki couldn’t believe it.

(Are these fish all dumbasses or are they all like a heard or pod of whales or something.)

The question was a good one but Kazuki had no time to figure it out at the moment. one by one these fish flew out of the water and one by one Kazuki cut them down and stored their bodies. After nearly 20 of them attacking him nonstop and Kazuki killing them over and over again, finally, the fish stopped attacking. With his senses though, Kazuki knew it wasn’t the end of them. Down below, the water bubbled and frith as though the river was boiling. Kazuki stretched his aura downward and penetrated the water only to discover hundreds of whale beast beneath him.

(So many! Where did they all come from!?)

Just as he was thinking about this, something down below pushed his aura back. Feeling it for a brief instant, Kazuki could tell that this aura was stronger than his by many times in an instant and his eyes went wide. A large shadow lay in wait beneath the pod of whale beast.

(HUGE!)

Kazuki didn’t hesitate to take to the skies and fly up higher and higher. Just as he moved, the aura that pushed his back gave chase. It expertly flowed around the other beast, avoiding them without harm, and dove out of the water and up into the skies. It came into contact with Kazuki’s aura and started to shred it apart.

(This is similar to Aura Shot. This creature’s aura is tearing through mine like paper. If it touches me it could do the same to my body or worse enter my soul world.)

Kazuki wasn’t afraid of his body being damaged, he expected that in a fight but being attacked by aura was different. From what Glacious’s taught him along with Oren, he knew aura at a certain strength could damage one’s soul, even destroy it. A body without a soul meant death.)

Kazuki climbed higher and higher. The aura as well continued to shred his own apart as it got closer and closer. in almost an instant, Kazuki’s aura was gone and the aura was about to touch his flesh.

(NO! I REFUSE!)

Kazuki reached inside of himself and was just about to activate the devouring power within his soul world but just before he did, the great aura from below froze before retreating back just as fast as it came.

(It stopped. Almost as if it…knew.)
