Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 64
Many hours continued to pass on by. The Ancient beast had yet to return and was enjoying the nightlife in the ever-expanding city of Edngaul. While they ate and drank and explored etc, inside of Sid’s shop, Sid was still going at it.
His face pale and sweat constantly poured from his face as he exhausted himself trying to perfectly copy every single inscription down to their most intimate detail. Not only did he have to copy everything down precisely, but he also had to make sure to stack each layer of inscription in perfect order, otherwise, when he went to place them on the Motozu core, but a single mistake could also cause everything to fall apart. Working with a Magic beast core that contained a vast amount of pure energy, a single flaw, a tiny mistake and the core itself could explode.
An explosion from an Ancient beast core could level the land for over 100 miles and poison that entire area for weeks months or even years to come. The burden this put on SId was great but Sid was also a master when it came to crafting.
The crystals upon his Sozo glove lit up back and forth as he felt every curve and every groove. These inscriptions were near-microscopic yet with the glove, his mastery, and senses, Sid could make out every line of the ancient language as if it were crawling underneath his own skin.
Finally, as the moon held high in the dead of night, several stacks of paper reaching the ceiling, every inscription had been copied with unbelievable accuracy.
Sid fell to his knees and the glove slid off with a slick of sweat.
*Clank*
The glove hit the ground. This most precious treasure of his yet at the moment he could care less. As he was surrounded by 10’s of thousands of pages of inscriptions, Sid felt unimaginable joy. Picking one of these pages up he looked it over before squeezing it to his chest.
“This is it! This is the entire patter, the blueprint to craft a Magic core for a Golem. It’s in my hands!”
A few tears rolled down the side of his puffed cheeks.
“Old man, are you good?”
Sid didn’t even answer. He continued to hold the paper to his chest as the tears flowed. Kazuki knew that at this moment, Sid was in another world and decided to leave him alone and let him get it all out. To speak at this moment would ruin said moment.
(The old man’s dream is almost here. Tilly gave her life for this and Sid will put his all into it.)
Kazuki imagined how he would feel the moment his dream came true. To have his sister’s throat in one hand and his mother’s in the other. Right after he crushed those necks, he wondered if he would feel the same way that Sid feels right now.
Just thinking about got his blood boiling.
(I can’t let it end so easily. If it was just me if they would have just stolen my core and killed me I wouldn’t have so much rage. There was no reason to kill brother but that vile bitch ended him. SNapping her neck…That just doesn’t sit well with me. Mother deserves far far worse and I’ll be sure to deliver.)
Sid slowly stood up and wiped the tears from his old face. His ring flashed and a few vials appeared in his hand. Poping the cork from them, a bluish red liquid swirled inside a few while a greenish one with a foul smell swirled in the other. Turning them upside down, Sid drank them in a few swift gulps. Tosing them somewhere behind him, he stood back in front of the table. Color quickly returned to his paled face and Kazuki could sense the depleted energy within Sid replenishing itself at a rapid rate.
The Sozo glove slowly floated off the ground and slipped on Sid’s hand with ease.
Flexing the fingers a few times, Sid took a deep breath.
“Time for round two.”
“Old man are you ok now, do you need something to eat or anything?”
Sid shook his head.
“No, The potions will tide me over for now. I intend to finish this right now. Kazuki you just stand back and watch this wise master at work.”
Sid gave a wide grin before turning his attention to the Motozu’s Magic beast core sitting on the golden table.
“Kazuki, this process requires complete and total concentration. I need you to make sure that nothing disturbs me, including your newfound friends. Even one mistake in applying these inscriptions and I could easily set off a chain reaction and the beast core could explode. You, me, this city, all the people, and everything else in it will be reduced to dust. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“Of course.”
Kazuki spread out his aura and surrounded the entire building in a barrier of his power. After that, he made a second barrier of ki, one that surrounded only this room. It would keep not only other people out but it would also keep out any potential noises as well. Right now it was like the two were in a bank vault. Once sealed, nothing was getting in or not.
“It’s done, you won’t be disturbed under my watch. Start whenever you wish.”
Sid took a deep breath before he slowly rose the Sozo glove just slightly above the Motozu core.
“I am Sid the Giant Sid the Dragon Slayer, Sid the Wise…BEGIN!”
The crystals on the glove lit up in rapid succession. At the same time, several inscriptions on the golden table lit up in sync with the glove. One by one, several pages from the stacks surrounding him floated around the table.
The first page began to glow slightly before.
*Fshhh*
In a flash, the entire piece of paper was engulfed in flame. The ancient language on the sheet of paper began to shine with golden light and remained while the rest of the paper was reduced to ashes.
The golden inscriptions floated to the Motozu core before shrinking rapidly. Just as it was about to come into contact, with the core, Several crystals on the glove grew brighter. All at once, fire, lightning, and light shot out from the tips of the fingers and struck the glowing inscription before passing through the glowing words themselves and landing upon the Motozu core. As soon as this power struck the core, small grooves were scribed onto the core.
The floating words, every single inscription from that first page had just like that been inscribed on the surface of the Motozu core.
The floating words were of no more use and burned up as well.
Sid had no time to celebrate, nor any to rest as the next page lit up and burned away. The words upon the paper followed the example of the first page and floated in front of the core. This time, however, dark energy, water, gordonia, and space and time shot forth. The words were inscribed deep within the core itself instead of on the surface.
Like this, Sid inscribed the ancient language onto the surface as well as beneath the surface of the core again and again and again. This process was time-consuming and beyond exhausting both mentally and physically. Still, Sid did not stop nor rest for even a moment, he couldn’t. He had to constantly keep the inscriptions going. This thing was no longer just an object but was slowly becoming almost alive. If Sid stopped or paused in any way, a misstep could easily happen and it could explode.
Even though this was time-consuming, Sid’s skills were on full display. The longer he went, the faster and more precise he became. His hands moved like an expert surgeon or a masterful artist. No movements were wasted and with the golden table working in unison, his effectiveness was only amplified.
Stacks of paper were disappearing faster and faster, reduced to ash and fallen. Soon the ground was covered in a thick dark layer of this ash, which in turn made the room dry and with constant flashes of fire burning up the paper, the air became humid. Kazuki was perfectly fine in this environment but Sid was sweating like a pig. His skin became dry and his lips split and cracked from dehydration. His throat was beyond dry and he had barely a drop of moisture left in his eyes.
He wanted to blink them so terribly badly but he knew he could not take his eyes off of his work for even a second.
This dry throat, eyes that stung, but the man didn’t care. Even if you poured a waterfall’s worth of water over him, even if to relieve the pain in his throat, he wouldn’t dare lose concentration. Right now there was madness in his eye, as he was solely focused on one thing and one thing only, the core. The more inscriptions he laid down, the more his madness grew. He could feel it, he could almost taste it. More more, closer and closer. Another page, followed by another and another after that.
Even with his obsession and madness pushing him for many hours on end, the man had doubts. He became so lost in it all that he began to wonder if he was close. It should have been finished by now he thought. What was taking so long he wondered. With a scream in his head, he drove the doubt away.
(Just a little more, just a little more!)
“Sid enough!”
A voice, familiar in his ear but it couldn’t be. The voice should have belonged to Kazuki but Kazuki would never tell him to stop, not when he was so close, not when he was about to achieve his greatest dream.
“Sid, you’ve already done it!”
Sid ignored the voice. He had been so caught up in it that he thought his mind was playing tricks on him. Only when Kazuki forcefully removed the glove from his hand and snapped in front of his face did he finally come to.
Kazuki had snapped his fingers with enough force that a pocket of air burst in Sid’s face and it felt like a direct slap.
Sid blinked and felt a stinging pain in his dry eyes that lacked moisture.
“Kazuki, why did you stop me? I was so close, so close. Just a step further and I would ha…
It was only now that Sid’s eyes drifted over toward the table. Atop its golden surface, the Motozu core had changed. Several inscriptions glowed atop its surface and Sid knew right away.
“I…I’ve done it!”
