Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 73
Kazuki wracked his brain n what to do. Were he to really go with them, his death would most likely be guaranteed. He could kill a few but all 8 of these masters were out of the question. Especially if they fought together.
The 8 surrounding him though were all leaking with killing intent and glared at Kazuki as if they would end him then and there on the spot if he made the wrong move.
Kazuki cupped his fist and bowed once again.
“Senior, threats are not necessary. I really am telling the truth but if you really don’t trust my words, I guess I have no choice but to come along to the northern ocean and prove my innocence.”
These words of his showed he was more than willing to cooperate and so the other Ancient beasts encircling him pulled their power back slightly.
The old man’s expression relaxed.
“Good, come along then. As long as what you’ve said is the truth, no harm will befall you, you have my word.”
Just when the others were all ready to leave, Kazuki held up a hand.
“Before that, first let me go home and tell my wife and kids that I’ll be gone for a bit. After that, I’ll be more than happy to follow you north.”
Kazuki turned as if he were about to leave when two of the Ancient beasts stepped in front of him and blocked his path.
“What is this?”
The old man shook his head.
“You have no need to inform your wife. The trip will take us less than an hour back and forth. There’s no need.”
Kazuki still pretended to tremble and showed a fearful face.
“Sir, please understand my situation right now. I was just practicing a moment ago when strangers show up from out of nowhere and surround me. Then without so much as an introduction, I am questioned and even threatened. Not only that you strangers declare I must come with you by myself without so much as a word to my wife. I have been more than upfront with you all but you can’t even have the decency to let me speak with my family. The more I think about it you people have been nothing but rude while I have been more than compromising. You bring up that the travel time there and back would take less than an hour but the trip home to settle my worried heart would only take 12 or 13 minutes at most. You lot have traveled how far, what’s another 13 minutes or so extra? I’m not even asking to go alone, one or two of you folks could come with and keep an eye on me and make sure I don’t vanish on ya. If you even get an inkling of me lying or telling falsehoods, it would only take one of you to wring out my neck.”
Once again, the Ancient beasts lowered their energy. Everything Kazuki said made sense. The two beasts blocking his path glanced at the old man leading them.
The old man thought for a moment.
“Hmm, what you say isn’t wrong. Right, we have been a bit rude, sorry about that. Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Dreunz and the young man playing with your training dummy there is my grandson. His name is Alodeus.”
The youthful boy punching and kicking Danny smiled when he heard his grandfather mention him. Right after he went back to pounding the metal body of Danny as if it were an oversized doll.
The old man called Dreunz looked over the other Ancient beasts and explained.
“As for these other men and women, their names are unimportant. They are merely escorts. To your request, I know the concern of a wife and child well. It’s as you say, you have been more than compromising. I see that and I won’t be heavy-handed. I will allow you to go see your wife. I’ll send a few of my people with you so you don’t get cold feet. Now hurry along and be back. My business north is very important and I wish for no more delays and I expect after your return you will have no more excuses, will you?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“Once I’m done, I’ll be sure to come back without trouble and finish my business with you promptly.”
Kazuki’s tone was exactly the same but the meaning behind his words was different than what Dreunz and the others thought them to be.
Kazuki grabbed Danny’s body and was just about to leave when the young boy complained.
“Grandpa, I wasn’t done playing yet. Can’t I play for a few more minutes?”
Dreunz nodded.
“Right Your name was.”
Kazuki’s footsteps paused in place.
“Kazuki. That’s what people call me by.”
“Kazuki is it. Leave the doll here. My grandson wishes to play a little more.”
“Um, this doll is very precious to me. There are no others like it. If something happens, it will be extremely difficult for me to replace it. Therefore it goes everywhere with me. You understand right?”
“Not really, after all, it’s just a training doll. Leave it here and be on your way.”
Kazuki didn’t know what to do at this moment. If he left Danny here and any of them grew curious and used aura on him, they would know right away that Danny wasn’t just some doll. That lie being cracked would be a domino effect. The natural thought would be if Kazuki lied about that then what else has he been untruthful about. Kazuki thought about maybe removing the Magic core quickly and tucking it away but he didn’t know what speed this Ancient beast could perceive. Sleight of hand was not something he believed he could pull off under their eyes without being caught red-handed.
He wanted to just store Danny’s entire body and just leave right there and then but he hadn’t clue what would happen if he stored something with a soul in his ring. He had no clue what would happen to Danny if he did that and right now was not the time to test it.
Kazuki had been standing still ad quiet for several seconds now and the others were starting to grow curious as to why. Just as he was lost on what to do, the young boy Alodeus spoke up.
“Grandpa, can’t you see you’re making things difficult for no reason. Kazuki you may be a weak little human but you have interesting stuff like this doll. If your that concerned about it, I’ll just go with you. That way I can keep playing and you can see with your own eyes if I mistreat this doll or not. Grandpa, how does that sound?”
Dreunz thought it over.
“No. I don’t want you leaving my side. I didn’t even want to take you on this trip but your mother insisted and it’s hard for me to deny mydaughter’ss wish. I couldn’t bear if something happened to you.”
*Hehahahaha!*
Alodeus broke out into laughter.
“Grandpa what could happen. We’re in human territory. We’ve been traveling for many days and nights and this weak human is by far the strongest thing we’ve encountered so far. I could beat him with one hand. If he is the strongest around here, even if there were a hundred of him, I could still clean them all up. What could happen? Besides, It’s not like I’d be going alone. You said you would send a few escorts with him, they can protect me right?… Please grandpa.”
*Haa*
“Fine. You three go with him and look after him. We’ve already wasted some time here talking. After this human speaks with his family, hurry along toward the north. I and these fellows will go on ahead. Catch up with us afterward alright?”
Alodeus nodded excitedly.
“Of course grandpa. This will be like a mission for me right. I’ll complete it without fail and return to your side as soon as possible. You can count on me!”
Dreunz held back a smile before waving his grandson, the escorts, and Kazuki away.
“Ok you little brat, don’t let it go to your head, and hurry along and go. I’ll see you when you catch up with me.”
Alodeus excitedly ran over to Danny and grabbed Danny’s arm before taking off into the sky. The boy did this with relative ease. Kazuki knew the boy was an Ancient beast in human form but it was still a strange sight to see a child grab a large metal body weighing several tons and with no effort carry it into the sky.
Kazuki though was only surprised for a moment before he took to the skies. A false smile on his face.
“Alodeus, follow me. The sooner we get to my home, the faster we can reunite with your grandfather.”
Alodeus’s tone changed completely and became ice-cold as he whispered over to Kazuki.
“Human, do as I say, fly slower so that I can play with this toy for longer. If you fly too fast I don’t care what my grandpa says, I’ll rip you apart and simply take this doll away. Do you get me, ant!?”
Kazuki didn’t understand what the obsession was with the strong calling him an ant but right now was not the time. Hearing the 180 of this child beast, Kazuki’s smile only deepened as he pretended to be weak.
“Of course I’ll do whatever you say. We’ll take as long as you like to return to your grandpa’s side.”
(Even if it takes an eternity.)
