Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 100
Everyone looked at Asuna and Asuna in turn was stunned.
“I…There’s not enough energy in here. You can’t be suggesting I teleport everyone out of here. If I could do that, I would have already done so long ago.”
Danny shook his head.
“Earlier when we were still being surrounded, of course, you couldn’t teleport. The Miasma was constantly absorbing all of the magic around us. However, Kazuki’s idea birthed a new idea for me. We don’t need magic in order to use magic.”
No one knew what to say to say to that but logically it made no sense.
Danny pointed at the cage of lightning surrounding them all.
“This cage was created by Kazuki using his aura. No magic required. We’ve established multiple times now that by making a soul connection, Kazuki can gain memories and experience from those he wishes. In doing so, he’s manipulated different elements that he does not have in his Mage core. He can use his aura to understand exactly how an element works and mimic it.”
Asuna was more than doubtful.
“The element of space is not something one can just mimic and even if he does mimic it, it’s not the real deal. It’s not really space element, so even if he does this, I wouldn’t be able to use it in the first place.”
“Danny, what Asuna says is valid. When mimicking the wind, I’m simply changing the pressure and force of my aura. Moving to and fro, up and down. It’s not really the wind but a thin veil of lies.”
“If that’s true then explain how you mimicked lightning.”
“That…”
Kazuki paused for a moment as he thought of everything he did. Subconsciously it seemed to come together all on its own. There was thought but it required very little. He just remembered something he saw on tv once back on earth. There was a program about lightning. The narrator had mentioned something about negative charges clashing with positive charges and there was a little animated cartoon showing the process step by step. When Kazuki was sensing his environment and he had just gained the knowledge of lightning from Danny, he could feel these negative and positive charges in the air itself and he naturally put it together.
Before he could mention this, Danny already had an explanation.
“If my thoughts are correct, what you are doing is not mere mimicry but beyond that. Maybe when you were first taught how to use your aura to mimic wind it started off rudimentary with a simple pushing and pulling of your aura but things have changed before your very eyes. Zetrazz…His ability/technique. His aura breath. Learning it has allowed your mastery over energy to increase to frightening levels. When it comes to controlling energy and sensing it, there are very few who compare. I would go so far as to say that your control and sense over energy is even higher than some of the 7th stage ancient beasts and other beings. No, your magic is not as strong and you have way less energy but manipulating it is second nature.”
Kazuki started to think about the aura breath technique. Learning it did in fact cause his mastery over energy to skyrocket. Because of this technique, Kazuki was finally able to copy Glacious’s black flames and fuse two energies. He didn’t stop there though. Kazuki could now fuse three energies together, which gave him his ultimate technique. There was still no actual name for the ability but its destructive capabilities was the real deal. By fusing the power of ki, aura, and dark energy, Kazuki could make something entirely new that could destroy almost anything.
“Kazuki when you used your aura to make lightning whether you knew or understood what you were doing you were making real lightning. Your mastery over energy, combined with the memories and experiences you take in from others, allows you to sense the actual elements that you are trying to mimic. I believe that you are really sensing these elements and mixed with that insane manipulation and control over energy, it allows you to actually make these elements out of your aura.”
Kazuki was trying to process this but it was still not connecting for him. Danny then added a bit more.
“Even before aura, you were already capable of using every element. You learned this skill yourself or have you already forgotten yourself.”
Danny pointed at Kazuki’s hands.
“The Ancient hand symbols. You told us all long ago that you discovered an ancient ruin back on earth. Inside there, written on the walls were many hand symbols. When these hand symbols were copied with your own hands, the ancient language, magic was hidden within. Using those hand symbols, you were capable of gathering any element into your hands. All of those times you did that, without your knowledge your body was feeling these elements. How many times did you practice with the Ancient hand symbols, how many thousands and tens of thousands of times did you gather different elements to your hands. Even if you don’t remember what these elements feel like, your body which used them all time and time again, how could it forget?”
Kazuki looked at his own hands. If Danny was running a cult, Kazuki could understand how others would fall into his words. Kazuki himself was believing more and more.
(Am I really making the actual element out of my aura?)
This single thought spawned another and another.
(Would this not mean that if I absorb more memories I could create other elements with my aura. Couldn’t I simply create and use every element then What am I saying thinking right now? Even if I don’t use my aura to make one of these elements couldn’t I manipulate my aura the same way I manipulate my hands with the Ancient symbols. If I use my aura like extensions of my body, if I use them just like hands, I would be able to use any element I wish when I wish it.)
“Kazuki your body which has already used every element, your body that remembers those sensations, and now your mastery and control over energy, I’m proposing that you can actually use your aura not to mimic but to actually change it from soul power into elemental power. Tell me I’m wrong…”
*Tzzzt*
Lost in thought, the sound of the Miasma colliding with the cage of lightning snapped Kazuki out of it.
“This is all hard to take but what you said, I don’t doubt you. Something in the back of my mind, as a matter of fact, tells me you are the furthest thing from wrong. So your plan then is for me to form another connection with Asuna and gain her memories and experience of using the element of space. After that, I will change my aura into the element of space and she will teleport us all away.”
Danny nodded.
“To a T.”
“In that case, after I take in her memories and experience, why wouldn’t I just teleport us away.”
Danny went silent once again before saying something odd.
“Kazuki. I’ve been a part of you for a long time. I know your power inside and out and I tend to think ahead on certain occasions. The amount of power you have left..the amount of power Asuna has right now, what is currently needed to teleport 5… With just your power alone, to get out of this Miasma…Asuna can not give you her power but she should be able to absorb the space element you create. All of the power will go to her to get as many…”
Danny’s words froze right there. He looked at Sam and Asuna, neither knew what he was talking about but Kazuki was quickly realizing the situation.
“You should understand what I mean Kazuki and the choice ultimately will come down to you as you are the one using your power.”
Kazuki’s eyes widened.
(With the remaining power, it won’t be enough for all of us to leave here! If I use my own power I could maybe get two of us out of here but at the same time, I’ve never teleported with space magic I created. I could end up moving us a few feet away and end up directly inside the Miasma anyway. Asuna on the other hand, as long as she pictures the place and has enough power, she can move basically where she pleases now. If I give her all of my power, she should be able to move 4 of us at the most, which means…no matter what, one of us will have to stay behind.)
One step forward and two steps back. Every time they turned a corner and saw a glimpse of light, a new foul cloud would envelop them and block their sight. Kazuki wondered if Danny’s calculations could be wrong, maybe somehow they were off slightly and Asuna could actually get them all out but…Kazuki knew Danny. If Danny said it, it was as good as concrete.
Kazuki looked around at the people inside this small protective sphere and felt his heart sink. One of them had to die. One of them had to be left behind in order for the others to survive. How though could Kazuki make such a choice among those he cared about, among those he loved.
