Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 105

Kazuki’s ring opened and he drew in all of the magic energy contained in the damaged core from the floating palace. It held an absorbant amount of power before it was damaged and after Kazuki transferred all of his remaining energy into it, the boulder-sized core held an enormous amount of magical power.

Kazuki drew it inside of his soul world all at once and directed it not to his own Mage core but instead straight into his soul tree. The moment it flowed into his soul tree, his soul tree shook and it began to grow larger and larger. Merely moments before, Kazuki had discovered a strange effect. By allowing his soul tree to absorb magical energy, it would cause his soul to grow stronger and stronger.

This sudden and massive inflow of energy into his soul tree and the explosive and rapid growth of his soul made the tide of battle flip entirely inside him. The Vazul occupying his soul tree, shredding his soul to pieces and eating it, all of the sudden froze in place.

(This…power.)

The dark being felt an impending crisis start to unfold but its fate was already sealed. Kazuki’s soul strengthened by a small amount at first but with the rapid inflow of energy, it grew uncontrollably fast.

(This is too much.)

The Vazul found itself unable to do anything within the soul tree as Kazuki’s soul began to wrap around it and hold it in place.

It quickly tried to retreat out of his soul tree and back into the gate but Kazuki wasn’t done just yet. He split the lightning cage in the outside world and drove it into his soul world.

*CRACK*

Several bolts of lightning containing the severing tempest appeared inside Kazuki’s soul world and surrounded his soul tree in an instant.

The Vazul who tried to escape, felt excruciating pain as it slammed into the inside of the cage.

(This is!?)

Kazuki could tell the Vazul was confused but it was only natural in such a situation. That didn’t mean he would sit around and explain to this bastard though.

The moment the Vazul slammed into the cage, it felt some of its form being destroyed and reduced to nothingness. It understood right away what this meant. It could not touch the lightning nor could it escape. It could feel impending doom.

(NOOOO! This will not be my end!)

The dark being opened its mouth and tried to devour the lightning but as soon as it did, just like before a part of it was destroyed the moment it touched it.

Desperation set in and it became furious. It gave up on the lightning and turned back to Kazuki’s soul. It could sense the energy coming in from the outside and into the soul tree.

(That power, I’ll devour it and then I’ll devour you!)

It aimed for the incoming flow of energy. If it could cut the connection from Kazuki and intercept this energy before it entered Kazuki’s soul, it could stop Kazuki’s growth, and instead, it would grow in strength. Once the balance of power shifted, it would then easily be able to eat Kazuki’s soul and fully possess his body.

This thinking though was already too late. The Vazul tried to intercept the incoming energy but the exact moment it entered Kauzki’s soul tree, all of the energy dispersed and became one with Kauzki’s soul. This all happened instantaneously. There was literally no time for the Vazul to steal the energy.

Kazuki didn’t stop there though. Kazuki had mastered the control of energy and his soul was included in that. If he could manipulate his aura which was a part of his soul like a weapon, then why could he not go straight to the source and manipulate his soul directly into a weapon.

Kazuki imagined the aura shot. In doing so, his soul seemingly started to sharpen and also began to spin rapidly as well. Without another thought, Kazuki willed his soul forward, and just like a drill, his soul tore into the Vazul’s shadowy form and left a gaping hole in its body. The Vazul was already limited on energy and it would need an excess amount to repair itself. Inside Kazuki’s soul tree, where it could no longer feast on his soul, it lacked the energy to fix itself. So this hole that Kazuki tore through it was permanent.

(NOOOOOOO!)

The Vazul quickly changed itself into a piercing blade and decided to sacrifice some of its body and pierce its way out of here. It figured it would be pretty badly harmed but it believed it would still survive. As long as it survived it would have another chance.

Kazuki though would not give it this chance. Even as Kazuki was still being melted on the outside by the Miasma and even though he was in such excruciating pain, right now it didn’t matter. He had one chance to steal the Vazul’s ability and this was it.

The lightning surrounding his soul tree shrank and Kazuki drew it inside of his soul tree as well. His soul though didn’t absorb this energy but instead, Kazuki willed it and formed a cage around the Vazul. The Vazul tried to pierce through it like a demonic spear but once again, more of it was destroyed by the sword forms hidden within the lightning.

The lightning shrunk more and more with Kazuki’s will until the Vazul had no more room to move. Kazuki then shut his eyes and concentrated.

(What do you think you are doing. Release me at once and I will kill you quickly as mercy.)

Kazuki shook his head.

(Even now, you deny your reality of the situation and instead arrogantly believe that it is you who is still in control.)

A small part of Kazuki’s extended into the cage. Kazuki used the lightning and destroyed more and more of the Vazul until it was no bigger than the size of a fist. Kazuki’s soul completely overwhelmed the dark being now. His soul carefully touched the Vazul and his eyes lit up with a brilliant glow.

(GIVE ME YOUR POWER!)

Kazuki formed a soul connection with the Vazul. Since the Vazul was already inside his soul tree, it was easy for this connection to take place. With Kazuki completely overpowering the Vazul, it could not resist in any way nor could it forcibly cut the connection between the two.

Kazuki’s soul invaded this dark being and he went through every single memory in an instant. As soon as he found the ability he wished for, Kazuki used his soul to overpower the dark being once again and forced all knowledge and experience of the devouring power out of the Vazul and into him.

Barely a second passed during this process. The moment Kazuki had this knowledge, his soul moved once again.

A small extension of his soul left his soul tree and gathered at the base of it. Part of the lightning that still remained jumped out of his soul tree and struck the gate several times, destroying it instantly. With the Vazul weakened to this extent, the gate itself weakened as well and it could not hold out against the Storm Tempest.

As soon as the Vazul saw its gate destroyed and felt its remaining energy waining, it trembled in horror.

(How can you break my gate with such ease?)

Kazuki ignored him and concentrated on the small piece of soul he separated from himself. The small fragment began to swirl and shape. It flowed naturally as if guided by the ancient language. Kazuki’s entire soul world, at this moment, began to quake. The swirling fragment condensed and folded several times over until it was the size of a pea.

The exact second it reached this size, it exploded outward, and a fraction of a second after this explosion, everything that was rushing outward, suddenly came collapsing back inward.

*BANG*

A small tiny hole formed at the base of Kazuki’s soul tree. It was even smaller than a pea and resembled a tiny swirling crumb. It was a gate similar to the Vazul’s. This one though was Kazuki’s and Kazuki’s alone. It was his own version of the Ourodyess technique. There would be no more haunting voices inside of his head, demanding he devours the world. There would be no infinite hunger that could never be satiated that would in turn drive one mad. It was his power now and his to control with absolute authority.

The Vazul was shocked and terrified. A lowly human had not only brought it to the brink of destruction but this same lowly human had stolen his power or rather copied it in a way. This wasn’t possible. This was something that couldn’t be.

The Vazul thought up to here before Kazuki’s focus came upon it again.

No more words need to be said. The Vazul had fallen perfectly into Kazuki’s trap. The moment Kazuki got rid of the energy inside of him, he knew exactly where the Vazul would go. ONce the Vazul entered his soul tree and tried to possess him, Kazuki’s soul strengthened, and then he brought in the Storm Tempest. Weakening the Vazul up to this point, it was easy to take his ability. After that, there was no longer any need for it to remain within him.

Kazuki needn’t even lift a hand. With a simple thought, the cage of lightning shrunk even tighter and collapsed entirely on the Vazul, destroying every single trace of it.

Kazuki now had the devouring power and it was completely under his control. His body which had black lines covering him, they all faded into nothingness and his dark eyes returned to their original color.

Kazuki’s attention returned to the biggest problem he still faced.

(All that’s left is to deal with this shit.)

Kazuki opened his mouth and called out in his mind.

(Devour!)
