Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 106
(Devour!)
Kazuki called out in his mind. The moment these words echoed through his mind, the tiny hole inside of his soul world pulsed and began to spin. Kazuki opened his mouth in the real world and the small gate inside of him began to suck in the Miasma from the outside world.
With a deep inhale, Kazuki removed part of the lightning cage from around his head and made an opening where his mouth was. All of a sudden a great rush of Miasma spilled into his mouth.
*TSSSSSS*
A hiss rang out as the Miasma started to melt Kazuki’s face and mouth and part of his throat. Kazuki’s ki was circulating as fast as possible to his face to heal it as quickly as possible but this was a losing battle. Just before the Miasma fully entered his throat, it began to vanish from the real world and appeared in his soul world, just in front of his soul tree.
With the Ourodyess technique fully activated, the tiny gate at the base of his soul tree pulled the Miasma toward it like a mini black hole.
The moment the Miasma entered his gate, the gate immediately began to glow, grow, and pulse with energy. That energy in turn was fused into Kazuki.
The healing on the outside world started to accelerate. Plenty of tissue and muscle had been melted off from Kazuki’s face. The very second the gate inside him started to devour the Miasma, the melting slowed drastically, and there were even new strands of muscle and tissue trying to regrow under the harsh environment.
This was an added boost and helped slow the Miasma down greatly but it still wasn’t enough. Kazuki’s lower half had been exposed to the Miasma for several minutes and had been thoroughly destroyed. His feet, knees, legs in totality were gone. His cock, his balls, and midway up to his navel, were no more. The pain from this alone was so excruciating that the thought of death was almost like a welcome at this point but Kazuki looked past it and toward the bigger picture.
He had to give up a good portion of his body if he wished to have a single chance of surviving and so he did.
He withdrew most of the lightning cage and divided it into two. Half of it remained and protected most of his torso on up from the Miasam and the rest was drawn into his soul world to trap the Vazul in his soul tree. He literally sacrificed more than half of his body to keep the struggle alive, to keep pushing for a sliver of hope and after forming the soul connection with the dark being and taking its memories and experiences, Kazuki recreated the Ourodyess technique inside his soul world. He did this and also managed to make it for his own benefit. He kept the advantages such as insane growth and healing while ditching the bad shit. The insane voice and insatiable appetite were no more and a portal to the realm in which the Vazul roam no longer existed inside of him.
Kazuki snatched the sliver of hope and dug his teeth into it, holding onto this one chance for dear life.
As Kazuki absorbed the Miasma, his body tried to heal but the Miasam was far too strong and at best they were at a near draw with the Miasma slightly winning. Now instead of being eaten by the Miasam quickly, it had turned into a crawl. Being eaten at a slow and steady rate while floating about in darkness where every direction meant death, was something that constantly tried to break one’s mind. The fear of it all, the horror of it was something that could drive one insane.
Kazuki though was different. Once he was determined to live, once the fire of rage and the blazing will to live rocked him to the core, Kazuki turned the fear into fuel. He allowed the pain to sharpen his mind as if it were a blade and the pain and fear were a wet stone. His mind was not concerned with pain nor fear and was instead focused to a terrifying degree.
All the while he was devouring the Miasma, he was still thinking of ways to live.
(The Miasma is still winning. I cannot heal quick enough and at the rate, things are going I will simply be drained of all life and be reduced to a puddle of juices.)
Kazuki’s hands were still safe from the Miasma and he quickly flashed several ancient and symbols and tried to gather the gordonia element so he could heal faster but the amount he could draw was insignificant. He then got an idea and he gathered a small amount of space element instead and opened his storage ring.
Inside there were no more cores and the only crystals he had were empty of all power.
There was however one thing inside that still had magic inside of it.
Kazuki eyed his hill-sized pile of gold Zeni. This was a massive fortune that could keep more than a dozen generations of a family tree in luxury and wealth. Right now though Kazuki no longer saw it as fortune and treasure but instead he only saw life.
Each gold Zeni had a few small inscriptions in them. They were made like so, so one could not simply counterfeit them and it also allowed these gold coins to last for a very long time. Because of these inscriptions, each coin contained a tiny amount of magic. The amount was truly minuscule but with a pile the size of a hill, it was like a lifeline for Kazuki.
Kazuki willed the power from each of these coins and began to drain the tiny amounts of energy out of them and into his Mage core.
As he did this, the coins that were drained fell apart and crumbled into rust. This fortune was gathered from Tilly long ago over her long life, so the moment the energy was drained from these coins they were no longer protected with magic and fell apart. Some fell apart more than others while some only became dull and darker. In the end, though, the hill size pile of gold Zeni was now reduced to a pile of worthless crumbled metal. It was more like a hill of mud than a hill of gold at this point.
Seeing this fortune reduced to scrap, Kazuki could give two shits. What the fuck was the point of such wealth if one were not alive in this world to spend and enjoy it.
Kazuki took in this energy into his core and his empty Mage core as if a dried sponge falling into a puddle, it greedily absorbed all of this energy in an instant. Immediately after, Kazuki sent gordonia energy through his body and focused on healing his face and heal the lower part of his torso as his guts were starting to spill out.
He was now healing on par with the damage the Miasma was constantly dealing to him. For now, he sighed inwardly with a tiny bit of relief but that didn’t mean his guard was lowered. No, he still concentrated fully as he never knew what would happen next.
As he was devouring the miasma, his body was becoming stronger and stronger and was starting to heal increments faster. As he was growing, his senses were becoming sharper and sharper and because of this, he could sense the Miasma better and clearer. The more he took in, the more the Miasma began to feel familiar, or at least the type of energy it was made of began to show signs of things he was familiar with.
He could sense faint traces of chaos and a mix of folding and rapid expansion in the Miasma as if there was the element of space inside of it somewhere. As things went on and his senses grew sharper, he also began to detect faint traces of something he knew like the back of his hand, the element of darkness. Finally after some time, once again he sensed something else within the Miasma. This though was not magic at all and instead, to his surprise and absolute shock…
(Is…Is this…a soul.)
Kazuki himself felt that this was impossible but the more he devoured the Miasma, the more his Ourodyess ability grew and the more his body was enhanced. His senses were like a fine-tuned machine that was constantly improving and becoming better. Because of this, he knew he was not mistaken.
(It really is a soul.)
This realization caused Kazuki’s mind to go blank for a moment.
(How…Who?)
From everything Kazuki knew, the Miasma was not a creature but more like a plaguing cloud that drifted along with the wind or it moved by whoever controlled it.
Detecting a soul inside of the Miasma, did this not mean that this thing was actually alive.
Kazuki wondered who’s soul was inside of this thing but he had never felt this soul before so he had no immediate guesses or really any clues. By devouring the Miasam with his Ourodyess gate, Kazukiwas gathering more clues. He could detect elements of space, gordonia, and now fragments of a soul but no aura. This discovery only confused Kazuki.
(Is this thing alive or dead? What is it really?)
The moment his thoughts came to here, the lightning cage protecting the rest of his body, like a flame on a candle, was snuffed out as it finally ran out of energy.
Kazuki’s eyes widened and his body was immediately surrounded by Miasma.
