Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 17
Mei strutted like a proud soldier as she led everyone to a large courtyard.
The courtyard was surrounded by a few small gardens as well as a large decorative fountain off to the side. In the very center, there was a net for volleyball. After Asuna had shown the game to Nunully, Nunully found her love for the game with Asuna, and the two competed often, which in turn brought the attention of Mei and the others.
The net, though, wasn’t important.
Mei used a bit of strength and snapped her fingers.
*SNAP*
The snap echoed out loudly and spread all over. The very next moment, a Golem began to rise from the ground as though it had been there waiting the whole time.
Bozek was surprised before, but seeing such a small child able to summon a Golem, a thing that not just anyone can control, it brought out a side of curiosity he didn’t realize he had.
“I wondered about this the first time you summoned all of the Golems in the forest, but seeing it again, just how are you able to control these things?”
Mei pointed at the Golem before twirling her finger in a circle. The moment she did this, the Golem in response, spun in a circle like a ballerina. Smiling playfully, she then made it fall apart before making it put itself together.
Tsura glanced at her, and Mei could see her mom was getting fed up. Mei stopped playing around and said.
“Before uncle Glacious left, he gave us three permission to use them. With a drop of uncle’s blood and then a drop of ours mixed into them, we can now control them any way we want. I don’t know how it works after that; it just does. Now all the Golems in this tiny world will do almost anything we ask them to do.”
Bozek soon found a flaw in that logic and asked.
“Almost anything. They won’t follow every command.”
Mei nodded.
“Yep. Regular commands they can do because that’s how they were made. For example, I could make this one sink into the ground and teleport here and there, because that’s how it was designed. It can use the elements of gordonia and the element of space. If I wanted it to fly, though, it would be impossible. It doesn’t know how to use wind magic. So when I command it to make us an exit and teleport us out of here…
Mei cut her words there and looked over at the Golem. Without another word, the Golem understood what she wanted. It promptly walked to the center of the courtyard and ripped the net from the ground before tossing it off to the side.
It then raised a hand, and the gems in its eyes began to glow with green light.
The ground in response flattened out to a 15-foot diameter. After that, the ground hardened until it was comparable to metal. Small lines began to form on the surface of this flat circle, and inscriptions started to form. Mei watched from the edge of this circle, and as it formed, she added on.
“I thought about making an exit leading out of this tiny world and gave that command to this Golem. Since this Golem can use the element of space, it automatically knows how to make a way for us to leave. I myself don’t understand how to teleport, but this Golem does, so it does what it’s told. Old mister, do you get it?”
Bozek nodded.
“A little bit. The Golem is following your command, but you yourself don’t know anything about gates or how to create them, but the Golem knows this already somehow. What I don’t quite understand is how this Golem already knows such a thing. They say the element of space is the most difficult to comprehend, yet this creature or this tool, whatever it is, even without a brain it somehow knows how to make a gate for us to teleport out of here. This is difficult to wrap my mind around. For the dragon slayer to have such Magitech is mind-numbing. If we had more of these Golems, we could change the tide of war immensely. With a Golem such as this on our side, we could teleport to and fro so much faster. The number of lives we could save and protect while at the same time devastating the Azirians. This could change everything.”
Mei, Tsura, and Lamia’s expressions all changed and soured. Bozek could feel that something was off after he said this.
“What’s the matter, what’s wrong?”
Tsura briefly explained what had happened to Tilly.
“This type of Magitech, it may help humanity, but it can also be the cause of its downfall. Because of this, it can only be allowed out into the world with Glacious’s permission. So please, don’t mention this again.”
Bozek, after hearing about Tilly and the full extent of these Golems abilities, he saw and understood both sides of the coin. In the end, it was not up to him to decide, but still, he felt it was a great loss, especially in this time of war.
It was at this time that the final inscription was carved out by the Golem. Following that, the Golem’s eyes went from a green glow to a bright purple.
“Old mister, it’s about to start. I think you need to stand in the circle if you’re going to leave.”
Bozek walked into the center of the magic circle. He had just met this odd bunch of ladies, but they had been very kind, and because of Lamia’s connection to Nunully and Glacious, it seemed as if another path would open for him. Garn had tried to murder him, but now things would start to turn.
“All I can say is thank you. Without you ladies, Garn would be left unchecked. As soon as I leave, I’ll get in contact with King Brian, and he’ll warn Nunully and the others. Garn has sealed his own fate, goodbye.”
With the Golem’s magic core supplying the energy, the magic circle lit up with a bright shine.
*Flash*
A blinding light covered this entire tiny world for the briefest of seconds before dimming and fading away almost as fast. Bozek was gone.
Tsura and Lamia only now noticed something else. The two looked at the circle, and then their eyes darted all around before landing on each other. The same word slipped from their mouths at almost the exact same time.
“MEI!”
“MEI!”
Mei was gone. Mei was standing on the very edge of the magic circle, and the moment Bozek teleported away, the very edge of her foot was standing atop this gate.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Bozek looked around at his surroundings and found himself in the middle of a frozen mountain range with a blizzard raging around him.
“EH! EH! EH!”
A confused gasp rang out continuously behind him. Turning around, he was more than surprised to see little Mei standing with snow up to her little waist.
“Old Mister! What happened!?!?!?!?”
These were his words. This was what he wanted to say and shout.
“Little Girl! What…Just what in the 7 realms of hell are you doing here!? Why did you follow me out!?”
Mei looked around and pinched her cheeks several times to see if this was a dream or not.
“Oh no oh no oh no! Mama’s gonna be so mad at me!”
Mei then shuffled through the snow and up to Bozek before jumping up and pinching his cheek.
Bozek’s face scrunched up before he slapped her little hand away.
“Ah! You little imp, what are you doing squeezing my face like that?”
Mei ignored his words as the gears in her mind began to turn.
“If my cheeks hurt and so do old misters, then this is definitely real and not a dream. Oh, this is bad; Mama’s probably going crazy right now.”
Bozek flicked Mei on the forehead. Though he used almost no force, his strength was still too much for Mei, which caused her to grab her forehead in pain, roll around on the ground for a moment or two, and scream.
“Ah ow ow ow ow ow. Mister, why did you do that to Mei!? That really hurts, you big old meanie!”
“I should be the one saying that. You pinch only yourself to see if it’s a dream, not others around you. Plus, would it make any sense that you’re asleep when, merely seconds ago, you were still awake. This isn’t some sleeping spell it’s teleportation. How could you make such a mistake and end up out here with…
Bozek’s words stopped as he could see Mei was starting to shiver. They were in the middle of a blizzard, and although it had zero effect on someone as strong as him, Mei was still only comparable to the 3rd stage or so. This mountain range was designed by Glacious himself and was made to kill anyone at the 3rd stage and below.
Bozek grumbled something before grabbing Mei by the waist. Immediately, a warm barrier surrounded her, and her shivering stopped.
“Let’s get away from this mountain first.”
Flames gathered beneath Bozek’s feet, and he took to the skies with little Mei in tow before flying away from the frozen mountain and leaving only after images in his wake.
