Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 20

This messenger could tell that something was off in the great chamber. All of the lords had furrowed expressions, and the king seemed to be in a bad mood of sorts. Still, the messenger had a job to do.

He held a crystal in his hand and stayed on his knee, awaiting his king’s order.

The King opened his palm, and the recording crystal in the messenger’s hand shot forward and landed silently in the King’s hand.

The small crystal began to glow, and a holographic video started to play. The image of a mighty dragon as big as a mountain appeared. It was Glacious. He flew in the sky, and the wind of the world seemed to flow with him. In the distance, a Miasma colored in purple and black blocked out the sun and stretched for hundreds of miles.

Everyone in the King’s chamber knew that this was only a part of the Miasma and that the rest of it was far in the distance, shrouding the Azirians in protection.

Glacious opened his mouth and roared.

“SEVERING TEMPEST!”

A hurricane formed in his mouth and gathered strange energy before he spewed it forward with unparalleled force. The hurricane tore into the thick Miasma and proceeded to shred it away into seeming nothingness.

All of the Ancient beasts in this room, besides the King, watched on in awe. Those that could endure the Miasma, in this world could be counted on one hand. Yet Glacious didn’t simply let it befall him, rather he forcefully ripped into it and destroyed it with an attack. They all knew the Miasma could absorb nearly any energy, and this would only favor it and make it expand and grow, but Glacious’s attack did not feed it and instead destroyed that part of it.

They didn’t know what power Glacious was using, but they knew none of them could do the same. Right as the Miasam was fading into nothingness, something gathered in the air. The clouds swirled and darkened until a face and body formed. Immediately after this figure formed in the sky, Glacious and this figure engaged in harsh combat.

By now this face had become infamous to everyone there. One of the Ancient beasts sitting at the table slammed his fist down in anger.

*Bam!*

“FERA!”

They all recognized the name and the face as well. The anger from this beast echoed among the other Ancient beasts gathered in this chamber. They all understood, just like the Ancient beasts of the south and the ones of the north all understood. The Feya continent had unwritten rules that the Ancient beasts abided by. One of these rules was the one of territory.

Lines were drawn long ago. The south owns the south, the north the north, and so on and so forth. Even though there were millions of humans living in these places and human kingdoms were declared, the Ancient beast couldn’t care less about that. To them, all humans were weaklings, no more than worms, to be crushed beneath their feet if any got out of line. At the same time, the Ancient beasts never really interfered with the humans, as the humans lived such short lives and had nothing they wanted. The resources could be taken at any time, and food was never an issue. Humans were simply nothing to them. Whether they exist or not, it would never make a difference in the eyes of these Ancient beasts.

Fera though, was different. She was clearly at the 7th stage and could deal with nearly all of them. She was an actual threat. She an outsider, dared to enter the Feya continent. This was their territory and yet she came and started a fight in their own backyard. Not only that, the Miasma started moving differently ever since she appeared. Normally, the Miasma would simply move toward energy. Any form of life or energy, the Miasma would slowly make its way toward such a place and devour all of the energy.

Since Fera’s arrival, though, the Miasma divided itself and seemed to purposely seek out Glacious and slow him down. At the same time, the other part of the Miasma shielded the Azirians for the most part and allowed them to advance further into the middle of the Feya continent.

It was obvious to all who observed that Fera had some plans for the Feya continent. Again, this infuriated the Ancient beasts. They, up til now had very little information to go on, but as they watched the recording crystal play out, a mix of emotions hit them.

One reason for this was because of who Fera fought. Fera made two fake bodies and had one each fight Etora and the other fight Glacious. Glacious and these Ancient beasts, never got along. Glacious belonged to a powerful dragon clan but he had slaughtered many of his clan members. Those that were lucky fled to a higher realm long ago while the rest were hunted down and destroyed.

These Ancient beasts need not worry about retaliation from any of the dragon clans were they to fight Glacious, but the problem was that Glacious was just fucking impossible to deal with. In their eyes, he was an insane creature for killing his own family, but beyond that, he was hostile to nearly all others. He had a sworn brother and sister, but that was all the knowledge they had on his family. They knew nothing of who this sworn sister was, but his sworn brother was almost as famous as he. A beast like them, a wolf of dominant stature.

Again though, Etora was considered crazy and chaotic. He would kill any who got in his way and would eat just about anything, including other Ancient beast if he fancied. Etora had an incredibly tough body, one that would give all of them a run for their money. Not only that, but his strength was beyond most. Even if he was exhausted to nothing, Etora could simply open his mouth and suck in things like a black hole to regain his strength.

He could use no magic, but at the same time, magic seemed to have little to no effect on someone who could simply eat your attack. He was a figure that was hard to deal with and almost impossible to kill. Glacious, was even more fearsome. Long ago, he was said to have an invincible body. They all discovered that was false, and after he had fought with a Titan called Aruzai. This Titan specialized in soul attacks and had left a soul mark directly in Glacious’s soul. This weakened Glacious, and in doing so, made him vulnerable.

Many who had a grudge against Glacious came out of the woodwork once they learned of this, but Glacious had more than one card up his sleeve. None in the history of the continent had ever made an attack from two elements, yet Glacious had somehow found a way to fuse both darkness and flame. This allowed him to finish several opponents who thought they could take a weaker Glacious. Their greed to take his head only led to their own demise.

After some time, Glacious grew even weaker and grew tired of all the fighting. In the end, he decided to shut himself away and entered his tiny world. Once inside, no one could enter without some kind of miracle. At least not someone from this Realm. Not only that, but even knowing that his tiny world was located somewhere inside the Rin mountain range since his world was smaller than a grain of sand, it was impossible to find such a place in several mountains.

Can’t break in and impossible to find, there was no way to get to him. There he stayed for decades until he finally emerged. It seemed like his enemies would finally have a chance to slay him, but then they found out that he had somehow destroyed the mark of a Titan. Now he had a strange new attack and was even stronger than before. He had somehow completely recovered and grown even more powerful.

Many Ancient beasts had hoped to outlive Glacious. They would simply wait for him to succumb to Aruzai’s soul mark and die in his tiny world. The weaker he became, the shorter his lifespan would be. Most figured he had a century, maybe two left if he could hang on.

With an anomaly such as Glacious finally dead and gone, the Ancient beasts could rule entirely as they saw fit. As long as they did not step on any Titan’s toes, the Feya continent would be theirs and theirs alone. Glacious, though, defied all of their expectations. Now that he was even stronger and they were enemies, things would come to a head at some point. Then Fera stepped in. They absolutely despised a foreign power coming into their land, but her coming brought opportunity.

The recording showed Glacious destroying Fera’s fake body. Glacious inhaled deeply, but besides that, there was not much change in his expression. Glacious then took to the sky and headed toward the main body of Miasma, however, not even 1 second passed, and more Miasma appeared in the sky. Glacious had only managed to make it a hundred miles or so before this dark Miasma appeared.

The process then repeated itself of Glacious destroying this part of the Miasma before one of Fera’s fake bodies appeared, and then they went into combat as well.

This had been going on for over a year now. Glacious’s objective was simple. He just needed to make it to the Miasma’s main body and destroy it, but after all of this time, he had only managed to move a few thousand miles forward, and with the Miasma constantly moving, he was barely shortening the distance. Something needed to change, or combat would play out like this for an eternity.

The recording crystal cut out there, and the messenger gave a full report. The moment he was done, another person entered the chamber and bowed.

“My King, those from the south have arrived.”

A confused look spread around the chamber before the King nodded.

“The southern boastfuls have arrived. Send them in.”
