Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 26

As King Garn appeared in the corridor, a strange silence filled the surroundings as no one dared speak a word in his presence. He saw all of these people like little mice. The moment he appeared, they all scattered to the four corners before their tails were stepped on.

“Hmph, cowards.”

Once these soldiers and Mages were out of his way, Garn stepped forward. Just as one foot crossed the threshold and into the room with Mila, Mila shouted at him.

“STOP!”

Garn smirked at her, but he did as she said. He casually glanced at the Magic Beast core in her hand and took in her position. Since she was behind the barrier as well as in close proximity to the large crystal power source, Garn knew right away what she was trying to do.

“Mila, you of all people. I knew there would be traitorous rats in my midst but I didn’t believe one of them would actually be you. It seems I have been far too lenient in the way I handle my affairs. I’ve been far too soft and generous.”

“LIES! Lenient, generous, you really are this far gone. You call killing millions of innocent civilians generous. You burned those cities to the ground and even blamed it on Bozek. Now everyone thinks he was a traitor when in actuality it was all you. He was a true hero and he died for what!? You rule with fear and power. Because of this, you will never have our respect and instead will only bear our resentment.”

Garn didn’t even care to deny it and instead became annoyed.

“This is why everyone is so stupid. Those people had to be dealt with sooner or later. If I didn’t kill them now, then they would have suffered from the Miasma, or worse they would have been turned by the Azirian’s. What I did was grant them mercy before things fell apart. Those people, to have died by my hands…They were the lucky ones. As for Bozek, who cares. He defied me and he was a lowly halfbreed. His death was already set in stone the moment he was born. I cannot allow those whose blood doesn’t run fully human to live. His was an existence that should have been snuffed out much sooner.”

Those still in the area looked at Garn with wide eyes. There were many rumors and some had witnessed his atrocities but they still had some hope in their hearts for him. The fact that he came out with all of this and acted nonchalantly about all of the innocent lives he’s taken, these people were shocked to the core.

Garn could feel the gazes on his back and turned around to catch those who dared look at him with contempt. The moment he turned though, all eyes fell to the floor as fast as possible. None dared to look up. Garn was already annoyed but seeing them act like frightened children only illed his temperament more.

“You see how these people are. They cannot stand up to anything yet they are meant to be the ones to shield humanity from the monsters in the dark. How…How would these scared fools stand up and fight? How could any of them ever hope to make the tough decisions? That is why I exist, that is why I am strong and they are weak. As the weak, they should simply shut up and do as I say. Leave their fates up to me and I’ll deliver them out of the clutches of those that would tear them apart in the shadows.”

“Just because you’re stronger than others, you think that gives you the right…The authority to decide who lives and dies?”

Garn smiled.

“EXACTLY!”

He pointed at Mila and spoke with dominance.

“My strength is exactly what gives me such authority. The weak have no rights, while the strong set the rules and live beyond and above them. You don’t like it, that’s too bad. It’s my way or its death. There is no in-between, there is no other way. Obey me or die. You as well Mila, come out from there and I may show you mercy yet. Don’t, and I will crush you and let all see what happens when they defy me!”

Mila glared at Garn as if she would rip his eyes out at any moment. A second later though she breathed out an air of calm before shaking her head.

“Your so-called mercy is only my awaiting death. I know how you are and worse I know who you really are. You are a monster in human flesh. You are a vile poison not just to yourself but to those around you as well and if you are allowed to live, not just humanity but the entire world will suffer if you aren’t stopped.”

Mila held the Magic beast core high above her head and energy began to gather within it. Every Mage could feel this abundance of power gathering and they immediately decided to turn tail and run. The soldiers also took off running. They didn’t sense the magic but seeing the Mages panic and take off filled them with dread. They understood that something bad was coming.

Garn as well knew what this meant and he barked at her.

“For such betrayal! You know what the consequences will be, don’t you? Step out of there right now! I King Garn order you out from there or I promise, only agony awaits you!”

Mila showed not even an ounce of fear.

“I know what comes next. I’ve already prepared myself for the consequences. As long as you die, and no one has to suffer you anymore, I will not fear death.”

Garn could feel the power in the Magical beast core becoming unstable and his eyes went wide in shock.

“DON’T!”

Just as Garn shouted out, Mila instantly deactivated the barrier surrounding her and the large crystal in the center of the room. The very next instant she made the Magical Beast core erupt.

*BOOOOOOOOM!*

The sound was similar to a volcano exploding. The entire floating palace shook with a terrible shockwave and the sound blew out the ears of most onboard. This explosion was powerful enough to destroy an entire city were it to be unleashed fully but the explosion didn’t even leave the room.

The moment Mila activated the Magical Beast core, Garn slammed his scepter into the ground and moved the floating palace’s entire barrier, and placed it in front of him and around the room, covering both Mila and the explosion. This barrier was one that could block attacks from beings at the 6th stage. This explosion from one of the 8 power sources in the floating palace, along with a Beast core, in the end, could do nothing to the barrier. Using the barrier, Garn shrunk it down, causing the explosion to become an implosion.

Diverting all of this energy inward, thousands of inscriptions lit up along the floor and walls. All of the energy still trying its best to rupture the barrier and escape instead was all absorbed and transferred to the other still active power sources lying within the palace. Including the pure and dangerous magical energy from the Magical Beast core, all of it was swallowed up by the other power sources and just like that, the danger was gone.

Garn proceeded to lower the barrier.

The entire room was silent.

Looking around, not even a scrap of Mila could be found. No blood no flesh and bone, not even a stain. Garn had encapsulated Mila and most of the explosion to the center of the room because of this, she took the brunt of the explosion. How could there be anything of her left? Only a tiny fraction of the explosion had actually managed to leave the center of the room and the results left deep scorch marks along the floor walls and ceiling. If the room itself wasn’t under a barrier then it would have been destroyed completely as well.

The large crystal that hovered in the middle of the room had now been reduced to dust. Garn saw this and gripped his fist with rage. He could care less about Mila and her pointless death and instead focuses on the remains of his masterpiece.

To make one was something that took a great deal of time, energy, and a massive amount of resources. Seeing his hard work being reduced to basically sand, was crushing to say the least.

*CHshhh*

Just as he was thinking about one of his masterpieces being destroyed by a traitor, there was a small sound in the corner of the room. It was similar to the sound of shattering glass.

As soon as he heard it, his eyes darted over and he saw a small broken mirror. It was one of the rare communication devices he had made. There were only a dozen or so of them currently in the world. The only one who had this on board was he. He did this so unauthorized messages couldn’t leak out. The only other one should have been in his vault yet it was here.

As soon as he saw it he realized what had happened.

(She set me up. No doubt this was sending out a video of me but who received it? Mila you dumb traitorous bitch. Did you think this would make you a martyr or something? You dying will not turn any against me and even if it does, those that have the power to go against me…Who would dare?)
