Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 28

More than a dozen streaks of light soared across the open sky. As these streaks of light passed over the world like fallen stars, every animal within a hundred miles instinctually hid in fear. Barks, growls, howls, and moans. These animals could sense something more than they. Something that belonged at the top of the food chain. As their hair stood up in fright, these animals did their best to bury their heads and avoid looking up in fear of death.

These instincts from the animals below, of course, were correct. More than a dozen Ancient beasts were on the move. King Azar, an Ancient beast, and ruler of all beasts in the east led Dreunz and 13 other elite Ancient beast over the Feya continent. The wind went from a light warmth and swiftly changed into a frigid bitterness as they made it over the frozen Asadiah ocean.

To these Ancient beasts though, this cold, which could kill most under the 3rd stage in a few minutes…to them, it was nothing.

As soon as they made it to the Asadiah Ocean, King Azar came to an abrupt stop. Following behind, Dreunz and his daughter Camila stopped, and so too did the 12 other Ancient beasts.

King Azar wasted no time once they arrived.

“Dreunz, you know what to do. Use your Gosechu box and track the human called Kazuki and his allies. Once you discover their location, destroy them all, and then immediately head to the front. I will need you, along with the southern beasts, to hold back Fera’s fake bodies as well as Etora. I and the southern king will take on Glacious together. Once he’s been slain, the entire map will be flipped.”

Dreunz saluted.

“Yes, your Majesty.”

King Azar gave both Dreunz as well as his daughter Camila a particular look.

“Camila. I know your fury. Kazuki killed your only son, but you know your mission. There can be no slow, torturous death for him. There is no time to enact revenge the way you wish, and you must kill him right away. I will have no delays on your end. Do you understand Camila!?”

Camila ground her teeth before nodding respectfully.

“I will not fail you, my king. This one knows her duty.”

King Azar said nothing more before he vanished. In the distance, a small afterimage could be seen disappearing over the horizon as he flew with terrifying speed. Dreunz and the others were always awed by such acceleration. Even if their eyes could track a hundred times faster, they doubted whether or not they could even catch sight of his true shadow.

The very moment he was gone, Dreunz looked at his daughter and spoke softly yet sternly.

“Camila. I know how your heart bleeds for Alodeus, mine does as well, but our mission comes first. Kazuki must be killed right away, without delay. Even if we wish to tear the human scum apart piece by piece, in a slow fashion, it is something we cannot do. You know this to be true.”

Camila glared at her father for a moment. His words seemed cold, but she knew they were not intended as such. Still, it hurt knowing that all she could do was kill Kazuki and not make him suffer. Tears flowed freely, but she nodded as she choked back her emotion.

“I know what must be done, father. Father, even if I can’t torture him and make him suffer, please, Father. Please, you must let it be me who kills him. If not…If not…I don’t think I can ever let go. I will never find peace if his blood isn’t on my hands. I must bite him, I must taste it all, and see his life fade and his eyes dull. Promise me this…PLEASE!”

Dreunz sighed inwardly. His daughter was a wreck, but it was understandable. The other Ancient beasts heard this as well, and they could raise no arguments. To kill the one who harmed your family…it was only a natural thing to do. If he actually denied her of this, these beasts’ opinion of Dreunz would drastically change for the worse.

Dreunz couldn’t deny his daughter this, even if he were the vilest father in the world. Dreunz nodded.

“I promise, you will bathe in his blood if you wish. Kazuki will die by your hand.”

Dreunz gave Camila a warm hug, and her tears stopped.

“Thank you Father…Thank you.”

Dreunz then took out his most sacred treasure, his Gosechu box. Concentrating his power, his left eye glowed with golden-white light while his right was a mix of greyish purple. As he concentrated with all of his might, he began to pour his power into the cube-shaped box.

Inscriptions lit up along this ancient treasure, and like a puzzle box, the sides and center began to rotate and fold inward and outward. The Boz opened in a strange way before and took itself apart before, in the same manner, it proceeded to put itself back together in a weird combination.

Light shot up from the center of this box and covered the surrounding area for several miles. An image of the surroundings covered the sky, but the image was flipped. The images began to move, and it became a video without sound. In the video, the sun sank, the moon rose, and so on. Time was reversing in the video.

Days quickly passed in the video until slightly over a week passed. Dreunz took in a deep breath and stopped the images. In them, a clear picture of Kazuki covered in dark lines and a fleeing Dreunz appeared.

The moment he reached this part, Dreunz changed the flow of his power, and the images began to play forward this time. It showed the moment Dreunz had managed to get away, along with the black lines covering Kazuki’s body, starting to fade until he once more appeared more humanish. It then showed Kazuki leaving and meeting up with Shaila, Danny, and the others.

As Kazuki’s image flew in the air, Dreunz took off in that direction.

“I have his path; he went this way. Follow me!”

Everyone followed after Dreunz, and his speed got faster and faster. In the video, Kazuki’s path was straightforward, and there seemed to be no deviation. Because of this, by using the Gosechu box, it was too easy to follow the Kazuki of the past.

Seeing this, a few of the other Ancient beasts couldn’t help but feel greed seep into their bones. Such an incredible treasure. To see the past up to a certain point, the value of such a rare artifact was boundless. Using such an item, one could see others’ secrets if they had the volition. You could find where they hid their treasure, you could see through certain lies, and you could even track down an enemy that’s been gone for many days.

These Ancient beasts could also think of many more useful ways to manipulate it to their advantage. If things were different, Dreunz would already be dead, and that artifact would be in one of their hands. The only problem, though, was that in order to use the Gosechu box, one needed to be an expert with the elements of space and light, as well as hold some affinity for the element of time.

The element of light wasn’t too rare of a power, and many had it, but at an expert level, now that was something not too often seen. As for the element of space, it was incredibly rare, and those that could manipulate it at Dreunz level, these Ancient beast could count on a single hand the number of beings on the Feya continent that could pull off such a feat.

One of these said beings just so happens to be their enemy, Glacious. Last but not least was the element of time. If the element of light was a 2 and the element of space was 1000, then time would be 100,000 or maybe even more. It was so rare that those who could use it weren’t very familiar with it or its concept in general. The element of time was one of the biggest mysteries to this day, and those who could use it were not ones who were willing to teach or pass on such valuable knowledge.

It was either that or those that could use the element of time were fooling themselves, and even they had no clue what they were doing. At least that is what some theorized.

These Ancient beasts following after Dreunz knew that even if they had the Gosechu box, it would be absolutely useless in their hands. Whether this was lucky or not for Dreunz, who knew.

As they shot through the air, the direction in which they were headed became obvious. For them to move as a group and arrive at the city of Edngaul, it would be less time than it takes to brew a cup of tea.

Racing over the sky, before they came within a few hundred miles of Edngaul, all at once they felt a heavy pressure push down on them.

Dreunz and the rest stopped midair and looked in every direction, searching for the powerful being who interfered with them.

Dreunz called out in anger.

“WHO DARES TRY AND BLOCK US!?”
