Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 29

Dreunz’s rage-filled voice ripped across the open sky in every direction, but there was no answer. Still, he and the rest of the Ancient beasts, they all felt an immense pressure pushing down on them.

They scanned the area around them. Looking outward, they could see well over a hundred miles, yet they picked up the sight of no one.

Dreunz and Camila shared a look.

“Father, something isn’t right. This amount of pressure is more than what we can release, but not as strong as our King’s. Who could produce this intense aura, but we can’t discover his presence at all.”

“For this being to affect us with its aura, yet we can’t sense it. Just how far can it stretch its power? Not only can this being stretch its aura this far, but it can also suppress all of us, at least a little. This strength isn’t enough to come from a Titan, but it’s not little either. EVERYONE! I DON’T KNOW WHO IT IS BUT THIS BEING DOESN’T HAVE ANY INNOCENT THOUGHTS FOR US! PREPARE TO FIGHT!”

Just as Dreunz spoke up to here, suddenly, in the distance, they spotted tiny reflections of light.

*FWHOOSHH WHOOOSH WHOOOSH!*

Something came racing over in the blink of an eye. Dreunz quickly called out.

“DODGE!”

*Thwack Twhack WHoosh*

*BOOM BOOM BOOM*

Something struck the ground behind them all and crashed into the ground, shattering it all over.

Dreunz had been fast and moved out of the way. His daughter also moved as soon as he shouted. Whatever flew past them had clearly missed, but a few others hadn’t been so lucky.

Three long javelins had been thrown over with deadly accuracy and penetrated deeply through three unlucky foes, and penetrated into the ground a little further away. The luckiest of them had an arm completely obliterated. Now there was only an empty space where the woman’s arm used to be. Fresh blood sprayed out, and the womanly beasts gripped her shoulder in agony. To be considered lucky in this situation was almost a farce, but compared to the other two beasts who were struck, she indeed was lucky.

The other two had died instantly. Both had their heads exploded open, sending chunks of bone, blood, and brain matter onto the others.

At first, no one knew or understood what had happened just now. One moment they are flying along to cush some insignificant human and cowardly Ancient beasts who dared to ally themselves with said human, and the very next, two of their comrades were dead. These weren’t just any comrades; they were all considered elite Ancient beasts.

They were all considered the pillars of the Eastern Beast. There were a few more Ancient beasts who served under King Azar, but none could hold a candle to these here. Yet in an instant, as if to defy the logic that’s been in effect for thousands of years, two of these elites died in the blink of an eye.

The two that just died, as their bodies fell to the ground with a low thud, reality snapped these beasts back.

One of them immediately shouted before transforming into his beastly form.

“COWARD! FACE ME!”

This Ancient beast’s body stretched up and into the sky for several miles as he changed from a human figure into one of a large, strange bird.

As soon as he transformed, Dreunz, though, realized something was wrong and yelled at his comrade.

“FOOL! YOU’VE ONLY MADE YOURSELF A BIGGER TAR

*THWACK BOOM!*

Dreunz barely caught a glint of reflecting light before another javelin pierced directly through his transformed comrade. Once again, it was a headshot. The beast died before Dreunz could even finish his sentence.

Dreunz could feel rage building from his fallen comrade’s beast’s core, and he and the other Ancient beasts had no choice but to grab the three cores and seal them before the fragments inside destroyed this place entirely.

(For this opponent to be able to kill two Ancient beasts with a thrown object. I sense no power coming from these weapons. So does this mean they are normal objects? For these objects to be capable of piercing an Ancient beast’s body, no. Not only that but even after transforming into our true form, this weapon destroyed the head. To do this with no magic and to use only strength, the material alone has to be something rare. Add the fact that this opponent did this with strength alone. How many on the entire Feya continent can do this?)

The gears in Dreunz’s Head spun at a million miles a second but he could not think of anyone with such abilities right away. At least not ones he naturally ruled out.

Dreunz thought up to here and found it useless. It matters not who was attacking them. The fact was they were under attack and they must defend themselves.

Dreunz quickly spread his arms out in front of him and his eyes lit up with golden-white light.

“SWORDS OF LIGHT!”

Eight swords of made from golden-white light materialized around Dreunz and rotated at an incredible speed.

“Everyone heed me! Do not take your true form! You will only become a larger target, and this opponent’s weapon will find you. Use your countermeasures and defend!”

Everyone took Dreunz’s words as fact and didn’t dare argue. All at once, these Ancient beasts threw away their pride and went from offensive to defensive. Camila placed her hands in front of her, and several wind blades formed around her. Each one was covered in a slight silver light, and they resembled Dreunz’s in both shape and form. These wind blades rotated around her just like her father’s light.

The other beasts as well created barriers of fire, ice, darkness, and so on.

They all hovered in the air and watched their surroundings. It didn’t take long for several more javelins to come flying over.

*BAM BANG BAM!*

These javelins impacted each of these barriers differently, but in the end, none of these defenses were broken through. At the same time, some of the javelins bent slightly.

“Father, what shall we do? We can’t just wait around here defending all day.”

Dreunz knew Camila was right. At the same time, he felt the situation was gravely odd.

(This being holds this much strength, yet it hides and fights from a distance. With this much strength, why not fight us face-to-face? Not only that but this material, now that I have a moment to examine it…)

Dreunz could see a few of these javelins sticking out of the ground. The material had a dull white color and seemed to be made from some kind of metal. Though he couldn’t quite tell from this distance, he was starting to get a sinking suspicion.

Another javelin came flying over at high speed. Dreunz pointed a finger at it, and a beam of light shot out of the tip of his finger. This beam of light was highly concentrated and burned hotter than the sun. Just as he fired it, the beam of light intercepted the javelin, but to Dreunz’s surprise, the javelin still traveled forward. It had been greatly slowed, but it was far too close to his liking.

With a thought, one of the swords rotating around him came up with a striking motion and blocked the javelina. With this, he was able to snatch it out of the sky. The moment he held the javelin in his hands, Dreunz felt his rage take hold of him. Tiny bits of metal flaked off the javelin. His beam of light had burned some of it away.

(This material… it is the exact same that Kazuki brat had. He had a large amount of this same material, enough to make a defensive dome to block one of my attacks for a short time. This rare material, no doubt…this is that scum’s weapon. No wonder he’s fighting from a distance. He seems to have gained a bit more strength, but without that Vazul power, he cannot contend with my speed, and his body cannot withstand my light. I’ve been tricked. This bastard dares try and fool me again.)

All of the grief and all of the rage, in an instant, boiled over, and Dreunz roared at the top of his lungs.

“KAZUKIIII!!!!”

His body seemed to transform into a beam of bright light as he rushed forward faster than lightning.

Camila and the other Ancient beasts didn’t know what happened, but seeing Dreunz race ahead with no regard for his own life, they also thought it to be safer and figured he discovered the enemy’s location. Without another thought, they all gave chase. Their spirits were burning, and their blood was boiling. They heard Kazuki’s name and knew immediately that it was the human. For their comrades to die and for them to turtle up because of a mere human.

This humiliation would be returned and paid for in blood and guts until there was nothing left.
