Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 32

“DUAL SUNS!”

Dreunz roared out into the world, and with it, two radiant suns started to form in front of him. Faster and faster, they grew as if there were no tomorrow.

Kazuki knew what these suns could do. If he could still use the Vazul gate inside his soul world, he wouldn’t worry and would simply devour these dual suns, but that was no longer an option. Zetrazz had placed a powerful seal on the spiraling void at the base of his soul tree. Not only that, but even if Kazuki could access this power, the danger would be too great.

If the seal was damaged or broken and the Vazul within was unleashed, the dark being within would possess him and eat his soul. Kazuki would be no more, and instead, this foul creature would occupy his body for as long as said body could last with all that power.

Without the Vazul and the gate to devour the power, even after Kazuki’s explosive and recent growth, even he wasn’t sure he could take one of these suns head-on, let alone two of them.

Being reduced to a small pile of ash wouldn’t be strange.

Kazuki pulled out more god metal from his ring. Manipulating the metal with his magic, he made more javelins.

He immediately started to throw them, using all of his might. His aim was none other than Dreunz.

*FWHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!*

Dreunz expected this.

The swords made from golden light had been rotating around his body rapidly. As soon as these javelins came rushing forth, his swords intercepted them.

*CLANK CLANK BANG*

In an instant, Dreunz realized something.

His swords could not destroy these javelins in time. The force of them was like several mountains colliding. He concentrated all of his swords in front of him, and all at once he slashed at two of the javelins with a sharp angle.

The speed and force behind these javelins made them a real threat. In the end, Dreunz could only slightly push these javelins off course.

*WHOOSH*

The javelins flew away from his body by a small margin.

Dreunz looked on with wide eyes.

He understood that these javelins were made of incredibly tough material, but that was only a small part of their threat. The real danger came from the strength behind such throws. Dreunz had received this attack earlier, but that was from hundreds of miles away. By the time it got to him at that distance, the javelins had lost plenty of power. Being up close and personal, at this range, the force behind these javelins was on a whole other level.

(Kazuki’s strength is absurd. It’s not something I can focus on while at the same time creating these suns. I need a minute at least.)

Dreunz shouted at two of his comrades.

“Defend me while I focus. Once I’ve created these suns, that fog will be shredded to nothingness. We’ll be able to destroy them in a single swoop after! Everyone else change your attacks! If your magic goes straight through, change it so it explodes within it!”

Two Ancient beasts blocked in front of Dreunz. One with a barrier of Gordonia and the other with a barrier of lightning. These two also happened to be the largest of the Ancient beasts in human form. Like two solid walls, they were much tougher than Dreunz. As Kazuki fired off several more javelins, the two knocked them out of the sky with their magic and if their magic didn’t block it all the way, they punched them out of the air.

The god metal said to be nearly indestructible, once they were hit by these elite Ancient beasts, were bent slightly. The Ancient beasts weren’t fully off the hook. Their knuckles bled and bits of bone protruded through the skin.

Kazuki was surprised to see these Ancient beasts could actually come away with minimal injuries taking on the god metal and his throws but only for a split second. It was understandable that someone would come along who could withstand god metal. Motozu’s scales were capable of such a feat so it wasn’t strange that other Beats could do so as well.

Even knowing this, Kazuki didn’t let off in his attack. He had to keep this pressure up in order to split his enemy’s power.

Kazuki’s plan was a simple one yet effective for what he needed. Shaila would shroud them all in a thick fog of darkness several miles wide and long. This did a few things, one, it hid them from outside eyes. This would force the enemy to rely on their aura but Kazuki had a countermeasure for that as well. Using his aura breath, he could entwine it with Shaila’s dark fog, with this newfound power working hand in hand with Shaila’s dark energy, it blocked out outside aura’s.

With this, not just Dreunz but his daughter Camila and the other Ancient beasts, not a single one could sense what was inside. On the other hand, Kazuki could perfectly sense not just his allies but all of his enemy’s movements outside of the fog. When his enemies fired their magic into Shaila’s fog, Kazuki had another card to play. He would use his aura to sense these outside attacks, he would pinpoint their path and proceed to guide Shaila and the others to move and dodge out of the way.

Moving them around like chess pieces, they perfectly avoided the enemy attack. Most of these attacks were straightforward in nature and literally flew in one side of the fog and out the other. These were simple enough to avoid.

Now though Dreunz had directed them to send their magic attacks into the fog and explode like bombs. Kazuki had something for that as well.

Danny was directed by Kazuki’s aura. Once an attack flew in, Danny needn’t even see. His eyes closed, he felt Kazuki guide him. Several inscriptions began to glow along his black silver blade, and he called out in his mind.

(Third form, Severing tempest!)

Danny slashed at the enemy’s attacks within the fog. A single blade of air energy sliced through the enemy’s attack and severed the energy within it. Like a puff of smoke, the column of flames set to explode was snuffed out and the fire dispersed and faded.

It didn’t stop with this attack either, A constant flow of enemy attacks came charging through, set to explode at any given moment. Danny focused on Kazuki’s aura and allowed himself to be guided to each potential attack. Even though his body seemed to be stiff and robotic-like, due to being made from Orichalcum, his movements were anything but. Like a flowing river, he moved like water, and like the undercurrents of said river, there was an undeniable force that came from his cuts.

Using the third form, severing tempest, he destroyed every attack that entered the fog. Using this form to cut an opponent’s power was something quite difficult if your opponent was far stronger than you, but Danny had some help of his own. His body and sword were both made from Orichalcum, aka god metal. This special metal is made using energy nearly 100 times more efficiently and amplifies it severalfold. That, along with Danny’s masterful skill, allowed him to shorten the gap between himself and these Ancient beasts.

They would be much more effective if they simply used their raw strength against Danny but this was not something known to them so they could only pointlessly fire their power into the fog.

At the same time that Danny was cutting down their attacks, fire and dark energy shot out of the dark fog again and again.

It came flying over at the other Ancient beasts.

At first, these Ancient beasts had their guard fully up along with their barriers. They were confused as to what was happening within the fog. They couldn’t comprehend how their attacks were simply disappearing into the fog as if it were a black void. This had made them nervous, and so when fire and darkness came flying out of this fog and at them, they expected something severe.

*Puff Tshh*

The moment these attacks hit their barriers, the Ancient beasts all had the same reaction.

(Weak…Far too weak.)

They still didn’t lower their guard, but after receiving these attacks again and again, they all grew confident and cocky.

“How can these attacks be so awful?”

“Right! At least the human throwing the javelins is capable. The rest are all pathetic. We may have overestimated them. Once Dreunz destroys this black fog, their heads will roll. It’s pointless to keep firing our magic inside. It’s best to just defend and wait until they are in the open.”

The Ancient beasts began to clamor and laugh as they saw how weak these attacks were.

At the same time, Camila shouted at them.

“FOOLS! DON’T LET UP FOR EVEN A SINGLE MOMENT! THESE BASTARDS MUST PAY FOR WHAT THEY DID TO MY SON!”

The Ancient beasts all gave her a knowing look. She was angry…beyond angry. She had lost her son and they were treating this like a game. Even after a few of their comrades had fallen, they had only been enraged for but a moment. The reason being is that their pride was attacked. Their pride as the beings said to be at the top of the food chain was smeared by a mere human.

At the same time, within their heads, there was a thought. Those who died died because they were weak and didn’t deserve to be Ancient beasts. For them to lose to a mere human, it was because they were idiots and a fluke, nothing more.

This thought can be said to be extended to Camila’s son. The boy died because he was foolish and weak. This thought was shared among them all, but it was in thought only, not something to be spoken.

These Ancient beasts went quiet but and started to attack the fog once more, but they still found it pointless and went at it half-ass. They still thought it would be better to wait for Dreunz to destroy it rather than waste their own energy.

Camila could see their change in attitude, and she wanted to kill them. She knew, though, that she couldn’t make them do anything. Gnashing her teeth, she pleaded with Dreunz.

“Father! Please hurry! I must kill that man! I must rip his limbs, chew on his flesh, and drink his blood. If I don’t, my heart will never rest easy!”

Dreunz understood his daughter and pushed himself further.

The dual suns grew brighter and hotter, causing the air to start to warp. The dark fog as well began to shrink ever so slightly and pull back.

(Just a bit more and my suns will shred that darkness to nothing!)
