Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 4
As soon as King Garn gave his order, Brian held out his hand, a tall scepter appeared in his grasp. Unexpectedly, he didn’t use it rather, he passed it over to Bozek, the man who had delivered king Tobern to his end. This passing of the scepter was not out of the ordinary and no one questioned it as it had been done quite a few times before.
Bozek looked at the holographic video and spoke as if he was angry.
“Garn, where am I moving the mountain to this time. It better not be too far!”
Garn appeared tired but he still smirked at Bozek.
“Even when danger is moving towards you, you still have the arrogance to speak to me, a King, in such a way.”
Bozek gripped the scepter harder and one could hear a few of his knuckles crack.
“A king or not, you know that title means nothing to me. We still have yet to settle our disagreement. Without a clear winner, it will never put an end to our rivalry.”
*Hah!*
“That so-called rivalry is completely one-sided on your part. Why would I ever compete with a disgusting half-breed like you? Mother ravished by a dragon yet instead of making the smart choice and throwing herself down a cliff ending things like a pure human should have, instead, she birthed a freak of nature. Don’t you ever put yourself on the same level as me you whores spawn!”
Bozek’s eyes bulged at this moment.
“You dare insult my mother!”
The entire mountain began to shake as Bozek released a bit of his power.
“Hmph, are you angry? Just as I’d expect from a half-breed, can’t even contain your emotions.”
Just as it seemed like Bozek would erupt from this, he released a heavy breath. As he did this the temperature of the room suddenly climbed by several degrees.
“Garn, you are weak and as the days go by it becomes more and more obvious. Bags under your eyes, pale complexion, even if we fought you would keel over a few minutes in. I’ll let these insults go for now but if you mention my mother ever again, I don’t care that we are in the middle of a war. I’ll go up there and rip you from your floating toy and drive this scepter directly into your head.”
It was Garn’s turn to grow angry.
“YOU FILTHY HALF BREED BASTARD!”
Just as things seemed to be at their apex, a voice boomed inside the castle.
“ENOUGH!”
The voice shook the castle and with it, the hot room reversed as the temperature fell drastically. The doors to the large hall frosted over before shattering. In their place, an angelic-like figure wrapped in a satin blue garb walked in. With long blonde hair and a few strands of blue mixed in, this woman looked as if she was sculpted by a master artist.
This woman glanced over at Asuna and the others before she walked past them and ignored them. Turning her attention to Bozek and King Garn.
“You two, are you really arguing when Glacious and the Miasma is headed in our direction. Both of you, are you really so foolish. Have I not said it before, that if either of you fought or argue with one another, at that time you would have to deal with me!”
The woman raised an open palm and within a second a sphere of ice appeared and began to rotate like a frozen star. As it rotated a gust of frozen wind gathered violently above her hand and it threatened to destroy the entire mountain in an instant.
Bozek felt a chill run up his spine. Whether this was from the cold or the fear he felt, there was no telling. Swallogin hard, he loosened his grip on the scepter, and his anger faded.
“Sorry lady Nunully. I let my anger cloud my judgment. Now is certainly not the time for this.”
With this apology, everyone’s focus turned to the silent holographic Garn.
Garn was disgusted personally by the woman but he would not say that in front of her. Nunully had grown tired of the two’s bullshit long ago and because of her strength as well as her relationship with Etora and Glacious, her words held a particular amount of sway and authority.
Garn though couldn’t easily apologize, especially in front of everyone else and especially not to someone who wasn’t part of the same species as him. With a snort, he waved his ring and a new image showed in the holographic image of him.
It showed a rugged terrain of some sort with a large open space.
“Bozek, you should know of this place correct?”
Bozek took one look and knew of it.
“The Patar desert.”
As soon as Bozek identified the next location they would move to, King Brian’s eyes went wide.
(He wants to change the battle to my land, Garn you bastard. It wasn’t enough that you took all of the lands I claimed from King Tobern but now you want to ruin even more.)
“Wait a moment. The Patar desert is in my land. It holds the greatest of resources and props my country up with its economic gains. Every time we move the mountain, it isn’t long before the Azirian’s change paths and head directly for us. A battle there would cripple my kingdom. We must move the base elsewhere. Why not divert them away and
Before Brian could finish Garn interrupted him.
“No! This isn’t up for debate and this wasn’t a decision I just thought up on the spot. Glacious and the Miasma aren’t the only factors. Fera keeps interfering. She keeps making fake bodies and she’s purposefully trying to split Glacious’s attention. With my floating palace, along with Etora, we’ve managed to hold those fake bodies down but it takes constant effort. If even one of those fake bodies escapes from my grasp or Etora’s, it can then devastate our entire armies. With our armies gone, Glacious completely busy, my weapon palace, and Etora having our hands full. The Azirian’s would have the perfect chance to crush humanity and we’d only be able to watch. By moving further south away from the trench, the Azirians who keep following us will be led away from Glacious and the rest. As long as we can keep Fera’s fake bodies in check and Glacious can do something about the Miasma, we can turn the tide in one fell swoop.”
King Brian began to tap the table repeatedly in frustration. At the same time, the moment Bozek confirmed the location and with Nunully staring at him, he swiftly wielded the scepter and stamped it on the ground.
The power in his core swelled and was pushed into the scepter. Clearing his mind, he imagined the Patar desert. The moment he did this, the scepter took his energy and converted it into the element of space.
Inscriptions and magic circles lit up along the floor and spread rapidly over the entire castle and then the mountain itself. The entire mountain glowed with blinding radiant light before vanishing in an instant. A moment later, the mountain and everyone else on it appeared in a certain location in the Patar desert.
The moment it appeared in the desert. many commanders began to move. It was their duty to make sure everyone had appeared and was accounted for.
After five minutes, everyone was accounted for.
With the numbers adding up, Bozek handed the scepter back to King Brian before he awaited his orders.
Brian was still tapping the table in frustration but he knew he had a job to do. King Brian was the main strategist and commander when it came to the mountain base. Though there were still obstacles and pressures standing in his way, such as Nunully, Bozek, and King Garn, he was still the one who was responsible for planning.
After a moment he finally gave his orders.
“Bozek, you will take the vanguard position as usual. You are our first line. Like usual, destroy the ground and make it so the enemy is forced to fly to get to us. Our army will be divided and spread in a 90,2,4 comp. Ninety regular soldiers, two mages, and four elite soldiers with inscription tattoos. As soon as the soldiers arrive have the mages set up the barriers as fast as possible and get the magic cannons manned at all times and spread out properly. Even if we start to lose too many men, retrieving the magic cannons is far more important than the soldiers.”
Hearing Brian give no value to the regular soldiers and prioritizing the magic cannons over those lives, no one issued a complaint. Even though it seemed rather cold-hearted, everyone understood the real value at hand. It took a group of 15 or more regular soldiers to put an end to a single Azirian and that was with injuries and deaths. A magic cannon on the other hand could destroy 1 Azirian or more depending on how close they were and all in a single shot. Even if the cannon didn’t completely destroy the head of an Azirian, it would mostly destroy their bodies. In this time span, a few soldiers could run up and destroy the head before the Azirian could fully regenerate. The value of a cannon and regular soldiers, the difference was obvious and needn’t be mentioned.
After this, Brian gave everyone their orders. Etora stuffed more food into his mouth before racing ahead of Bozek. The scent of one of Fera’s fake bodies caught his senses so there was no time for him to wait around.
As everyone was separating, Sam and Kimi gathered around Asuna to set out but Asuna after hearing Etora talk about the possibility of Kazuki being alive, she felt like she needed to say something to Nunully quickly.
Asuna called out.
“Nunully!”
Nunully though took a single glance at her before turning around to leave.
Asuna understood this attitude but still, she had to say something.
She rushed over and got in front of her.
“Nunully, please wait.”
Nunully had been slightly shorter than Asuna but after more than a year had passed, she not only caught up but now stood taller than her by half an inch.
“What is it? You know how busy things are?”
“I…About Kazuki…I think
Asuna’s words froze in her throat as Nunully glared at her as though she would beat the shit out of her right then and there.
“You shameless bitch! They say I’m cold but you are the real queen of ice. In all this time you never spoke of him nor shed a tear while all I could do was cry and mourn yet now you mention him. In the end, you never cared about Kazuki as I did. You simply fancied him, a stupid little girl crush. Do you think I forgot all of that? You didn’t give a shit then and you definitely after all this time don’t give a shit now.”
Nunully was fuming and looked like she was about to swing on Asuna when a chuckle broke the tension.
“Heheha, you ladies really are like cats and dogs though I think the animals act way better than you two.”
The light near the two seemed to bend slightly. Deactivating his magic cloak, Shin appeared out of thin air with a smile.
“Devil one and devil two did you guys miss this handsome face of mine, hehehe.”
