Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 44
Kazuki had no reason to refuse. It would only mean an increase in Sasai’s strength and his strength would benefit Kazuki.
“Such a simple request, no need to be so emotional, hehe.”
Sasai grunted but nodded in agreement.
“Hey, no fair! If little Sasai who is the youngest gets a weapon then naturally the oldest should be given something as well.”
Shaila was already imagining a grand and majestic weapon.
“To admit you’re the oldest, Shaila, are you not afraid your wrinkles will start showing?”
This time it was Sasai’s turn to tease Shaila. Shaila clasped her forehead in fright.
“You little snake, you lie!”
Sasai shrugged his shoulders.
“What reason would I have to make such a thing up. All of this fighting as of late, it’s obvious you have been stressed out and have aged considerably, hahaha.”
Shaila said nothing and swiftly withdrew a mirror from her storage space. Giving her face a quick but detailed inspection, she found no hint or sign of a wrinkle whatsoever. It was almost as if she forgot she was an Ancient beast that could live to untold times. As soon as she found no marks at all, she grew angry but Tozu put an arm around her.
“Honey, don’t listen to my little brother. How would he have any inkling about a woman’s skin when he’s never even been close enough to one.”
This time it was Sasai who grew embarrassed and slightly angry. He clutched a small wooden charm at his waist with a design of a rabbit and almost choked on his own spit.
“I…I have to!”
…
Silence.
Sasai realized he may have said too much and quickly cleared his throat.
*Ahem*
“Anyway, Kazuki, you spoke about my request being simple. I take that as you agreeing to make a powerful weapon for me yes?”
“Yes. I don’t have a huge supply of god metal but for you and the others, I’ll gladly make something to increase your strengths.”
Shaila was just about to tease Sasai some more, especially over his outburst but Kazuki’s talk of gifting them all weapons took her attention.
“Really Kazuki. I get a weapon as well? What about my husband?”
Tozu shook his head.
“Honey, that’s far too much. He’s already agreeing to give both you and little bro something. Adding me would deplete him of his precious materials even further. Kazuki, I can’t do that. Please just make the two of them something.”
Kazuki shook his head.
“No can do. Even if I’m running low, it would be better to increase everyone’s strength together.”
Tozu still felt like this was too much to ask for.
“But but.”
“Forget it, there’s nothing you can say to change my mind. If you really refuse though, then I’ll simply through the weapon away. Maybe I’ll give it to some chef and let him use it to cut vegetables all day. What say you.”
Shaila clung to Tozu’s arm and gave him puppy eyes.
“Dear, accept it for me. Just look at it as another lifeline for all of us. If it gives us even a tiny percent more chance to survive all of this, shouldn’t we take it?”
How could Tozu argue with that.
*Haaaaa*
With a heavy and reluctant sigh, he accepted the offer.
“Thank you, Kazuki. I will think of something fitting to give you in return.”
Kazuki waved him away.
“There’s no need. This, although helps you, at the same time it selfishly helps me as well. My gift to you is for my own benefit, so like I said, there’s really no need.”
“No. This time I shall be a bit stubborn. Even if this benefits us both, I said I will repay you and that’s exactly what I’ll do. I don’t know when or how but I will and from man to man you must accept or it will be a spit in my face.”
Kazuki didn’t see how it could be spit in ones face but he understood what type of person Tozu was. He was someone that could not be in the debt of others, or at least not for something so big. A free meal or two was one thing but a weapon with incredible power was something entirely different. Tozu was an honorable person, even among Ancient beasts. If he said he would do something, then that means you take him at his word. Kazuki got the picture and didn’t wish to turn this into something unpleasant so he agreed.
After that, Kazuki, Danny, and the others were on the battlefield. Kazuki had set off all of the Magical beast cores he had during his fight so the entire area was still filled with too much pure energy. Kazuki released his aura breath, forming a protective layer around him. Shaila and the others as well had their own barriers up as everyone quickly dealt with the pure energy.
Channeling the energy into themselves, they all unleashed powerful magic high up into the air. Taking in the pure magic and sending out powerful magic in return, they turned the magic in the air into their own and dissipated all of the pure energy, thereby cleaning the surroundings of it.
“By the way. I was curious about something but I forgot to bring it up. You all returned to the battle, almost at the same time. Even though it was so dangerous, why did you guys come back.”
Danny put away his sword before saying.
“I don’t know about the others but for me, I got a strange feeling. Just after the massive ball of light descended to the ground and broke the continent, I can’t really describe it but it felt like something told me to return. Even now I don’t get it.”
When Danny spoke up to here, Shaila and the others all exchanged a similar yet strange look.
“Not just you Danny. I was still worried about Tozu when I got this strange feeling like something was telling me to go back to Kazuki. I thought I would be killed if I returned but the persistent thought kept clawing at me until I rushed over subconsciously. How strange.”
Not just the two but Tozu and Sasai both mentioned the exact same feeling. As if something was calling out to them.
Kazuki thought about what was happening directly after Dreunz smashed the ground and even he was a bit fuzzy. Even after seemingly taking every precaution and raising every defense, Kazuki’s body had been crushed entirely and only his head was fully intact. This though left him struggling to stay conscious and he knew for certain he was slipping in and out of thought for moments at a time directly after Dreunz smashed the world.
One thing he did notice though was the reversal of the broken continent. He felt Zetrazz’s power at work and he witnessed dark energy all around repairing the world around him. Not only that but this repairing of the ground all around him even blocked Drunz’s direct charge at him for a few seconds. This gave Kazuki just enough time to snap out of it.
(Zetrazz power was at work at the time. If anyone could influence someone’s mind and affect them all at once hundreds of miles apart it would be Zetrazz. Did he send them to help me?)
Kazuki called out to his golden compass.
(Zetrazz…Was it you who got them to return to my side? Was it you who saved me?)
The dark energy within his compass pulsed several times before an almost irritated yet lazy voice echoed out in Kazuki’s mind.
(Ant, did I not say it before that I would no longer save you. I taught you such a powerful technique and given you the tools to make you strong. If you still can’t even defend yourself at this point, I’d have no further need of you. There’s no reason for me to step in so don’t accuse me of extending a helping hand, it’s disgusting.)
These few sentences, knowing Zetrazz’s eccentric temperament, Kazuki was almost 100% certain that it was Zetrazz who helped and called everyone back to him but for the life of him, Kazuki could not understand why.
(If his main goal for me to live was simply entertainment, would he have done so much to keep me breathing. At the same time, there’s no way he could have known things would have turned out this way. Shaila and the others coming back near the end of the fight, their return in no way guaranteed that we would win. In fact, it could have easily gone the complete opposite way if Dreunz hadn’t lost his composure and been blinded by rage. I just don’t understand what his purpose was. Not only that but in the end, he even repaired the place. Strange.)
Kazuki was stumped but at this point, there was no point thinking about it further. With everything said and done, Kazuki and the others took to the skies and headed back to Edngaul.
They had only been flying for a minute or so when Kazuki sensed something familiar more than a thousand miles away. A presence. As soon as he sensed this person, a large smile stretched across his face and he sped up to his fastest speed.
