Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 45
As Kazuki and the others were on their way back to the city of Edngaul, he thought about the different weapons he would give Sasai and the others.
(Even though I said I would get them a weapon, it all comes down to Sid. I might be able to design the weapons to specifically heighten everyone’s strengths but in the end, I don’t have the experience to make them. Sid though most likely wouldn’t say no. He jumped at the chance to make the weapons I had asked about before. His obsessiveness over god metal was the key factor in getting his help. If I ask him to make more things with this rare metal, there’s no way he would say no.)
As Kazuki was lost in thought, his aura was spread out for well over a thousand miles. As soon as he flew over a certain spot, his senses picked up a familiar figure in the distance.
As soon as he sensed this person, a large smile spread across his face and he sped up.
A few miles outside of Edngaul, a large black bird with a few silverish feathers landed outside a great forest. The bird transformed and shrunk down, turning into a small girl. The moment she transformed an earring on her left ear glowed slightly and a small dress appeared in her hand. Quickly putting it on, the girl called out.
“Old mister you can look now, Mei is dressed.”
Bozek descended from the sky and landed next to Mei.
“Mei, I don’t understand why you don’t just let me carry you. That way you don’t have to worry about me seeing you naked because you won’t have to transform back into your little human form.”
Mei puffed.
“No way mister. Flying in my true state is the best way to experience the wind. I won’t let anyone carry me, not even mama. Mei is a big girl and don’t you forget it.”
Bozek was fine with her doing her own thing but at the same time she was still a child and she was the one leading Bozek to Edngaul in the first place. This would all be fine but Mei was a tad bit forgetful when it came to Edngauls location and so she had led Bozek astray a few times, delaying their arrival.
“Mei, I get it your a big bird, girl, whatever but as long as we are outside of Glacious’s tiny world, you are my responsibility and are under my protection. I owe that to your mother at least. So even though you say big girl this and big bird that, you still need to pay attention to my words as well as your surroundings. A big bird transforming into a tiny girl is not something normal around here I’m sure and remember we are trying to lay low. Once I get the crystals to power my communication device, I can warn Brian and Nunully and then…
Mei at this point was no longer listening to Bozek and was already walking toward Edngaul. Standing on a large hill she gazed down at the large city.
“Hmm, I don’t remember this place being so big.”
Bozek caught up to her and looked down at the city.
“Girl, you said this was a town no? There’s no way. This is an entire city. Are you sure we went the right way?”
Mei placed a finger on her chin in thought.
“Umm, Mei isn’t sure. It should be. I went Fwhoosh and swoosh and turned left twice, this should be the place but this little town seemed to grow. It must have some growing pains as well because it looks like part of it is destroyed.”
Bozek noticed a lot of wreckage in the city and even a few fires that were being dealt with. He and Mei had both seen a great blinding light in the sky a little while ago. It was so bright that neither could face it and were forced to look away. A moment later they felt an awful impact and the world around them shook so violently, the two thought it was the end of the world for a split second.
As soon as this shaking happened, the two instinctively took to the skies and they could see the continent was being torn apart but just as they thought all of Feya would sink in on itself, dark energy sprung up out of the ground as far as the eye could see and the shaking stopped. The whole continent as far as they could tell was being fixed on a grand scale.
Neither knew what this meant but Bozek knew it could only be something bad and the two increased their speed toward Edngaul.
Now though Bozek was still unsure of what was going on and he simply wanted to get the necessary items and have his communication mirror repaired.
“Forget it. Whether this place is the right town or city or whatever. It can’t hurt to check and see if they have what I need. Things look a bit chaotic down there but we haven’t the time to worry about such things. Let us hurry and see if we can’t find what I nee
Bozek’s words paused in his throat as he suddenly felt a huge crushing pressure come down atop him. His entire body was pushed a few inches into the ground as he tried to stay standing upright under all of this pressure. All of the hair upon his body tried to stand up in fear but it too was shoved down from the ongoing pressure.
It felt like his entire body was being squeezed and crushed from all around and he could no longer breathe.
(Such a powerful aura, I can’t even breathe. Just what powerful being is trying to take my life. I…I can’t even move. It’s taking everything I have to stay standing. No, that doesn’t matter. The girl. I have to protect her. There’s no way she can withstand all of this pressure. I’ll use my magic and knock her away from me so she can run away. If the person holding me in place is here to kill me, they wouldn’t care about a small fry like her getting away.)
Bozek couldn’t even turn his head but just managed to move his eyes and saw Mei but to his absolute shock, Mei was completely fine.
(WHAT!)
More than fine, she was still moving about completely freely.
(How can she possibly move under such huge pressure. Wait, she’s not under its effects at all. Then does that mean the person crushing me is targeting me alone. I still have to tell her to run away at all cost.)
Bozek tried to open his mouth and speak but his jaws wouldn’t separate and were clamped together like a vice grip. Even if he could open his mouth it wouldn’t matter as all the air in his lungs had been squeezed out.
(I can’t even speak to warn her. Damn! What monstrous bastard wishes to take my head. It can’t be Garn, he has no real aura. Who else then could it be? I have no enemies with such brutal strength.)
Only now did Mei notice Bozek was acting strange. She poked him a few times in his belly and asked.
“Old Mister, what’s wrong with you? You look like you have to poop, hehehe. Did I figure it out? We’ve been flying for such a long while, you didn’t have the chance, right? You should have just gone while you’re in the air, hehehe.”
*Bang*
Just as Mei had finished speaking, something heavy landed behind her.
A plum of dust rose into the air and blocked Bozek’s vision but he could make out a tall figure in the dust. This figure was even bigger than he was and Bozek knew right away it was this tall figure that was releasing the horrifying pressure upon him.
*Bang Bang Bang Bang*
Four more bangs echoed out as four more figures landed and were hidden away by the dust and smoke.
Mei was at first startled when something landed behind her with such force but a moment later her nose twitched as she caught the scent of something extremely familiar. Her eyes immediately filled with tears and she trembled from head to toe.
Bozek thought this was because of fear and he wished from deep within that he could move and save her from whatever disaster had just arrived but at last, he was paralyzed from the devil’s aura before him.
A large hand stretched out from the dust and reached directly at Mei. Bozek felt as if he would have a heart attack and struggled violently to try and escape this aura and rescue little Mei but he could do nothing.
What happened next though truly left him baffled and stunned. Little Mei, with tears now streaming down her face and body shaking head to toe, she, to Bozek’s, absolute shock, jumped forward toward the outreaching monster.
(MEI! NOOOOO!!!)
Bozek roared in his head while Mei, to his surprise yelled something truly shocking.
“KAZUKI!!!”
Mei jumped into the figure’s arms and the dust was blown away with a gush of wind. Bozek’s eyes were wide in awe as he saw a tall handsome man. In his arms was Mei who buried her face in the man’s chest as she hugged him and cried.
Only now did Bozek realize that Mei was not shaking from fear nor crying from hopelessness but instead…These were tears of undeniable joy and happiness.
