Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 47
Kazuki saw that he had made a mistake and completely removed his aura from Bozek but unfortunately, Bozek had already passed out.
“Big brother, old mister can be crabby sometimes but he’s not a bad person. If I have to apologize to the green-haired man and the big titty woman then you must set a good example and also apologize to old mister.”
Kazuki knew Mei was right. When he first sensed little Mei he had also sensed Bozek’s presence. He had never met the man and knew nothing about him but he could sense that Bozek was also at the Core stage like himself. Sensing a strong stranger near little Mei and at the same time not sensing Mei’s mother Tsura or anyone else familiar in the area, Kazuki had feared the worse for Mei and thought Bozek may have kidnapped her or something else. His first instinct was to kill Bozek right then and there. Even though he was still hundreds of miles away at that time, with a thought he could crush Bozek into meat paste using just his aura alone.
This thought though was a bit irrational. He knew Mei, he understood her personality. If this man truly had kidnapped her, there’s no way she would simply go along with the man, Mei would put up a fight every step of the way. Kazuki knew he was missing a few clues and he had no evidence the man was actually bad so instead he decided to hold the man in place with his aura.
After holding him in place with his aura, a moment later Kazuki arrived and reunited with Mei.
Things were soon settled and Kazuki realized his mistake and let Bozek go.
Nodding along with Mei, Kazuki rubbed her head.
“I get it. I made the wrong judgment. When the old man wakes up, I’ll apologize to him properly, and you?”
Mei nodded as well before turning to face Sasai and Shaila.
“Mei apologizes to mister green hair and big ti…beautiful lady.”
Sasai was aggravated but since Kazuki seemed to care a good deal about the little lady, Sasai gave in and just accepted the apology. Shaila as well accepted the apology with a smile.
“So you’re called Mei. Not that I get a better look, it’s obvious your, not a human child. How is beast child acquainted with Kazuki?”
Mei pouted slightly.
“Hey I apologized but you’re still calling me a child. I’ll have you know Mei is a big big bird, not a small child or little.”
Kazuki looked down at Mei.
“Mei, this big sis here didn’t know that so don’t hold it against her alright. Oh right, I should probably introduce you all. Mei, this curious miss is called Shaila. To her right, the burly bald guy is called Tozu and he and Shaila are husband and wife. The green-haired fellow is called Sasai and he is terrified of women. He too can be crabby sometimes but overall he’s not a bad guy. He and Tozu are sworn brothers. Everyone, this young lady here is called Mei. She is also a Mangshi, a bird beast. her likes include anything sweet but mainly just food in general and her dislikes include being called small or child and things like that.”
Tozu gave Mei a nod while Sasai grumbled under his breath.
“I’m not afraid of all of women…”
Shaila though was again curious as to how Kazuki and Mei knew one another.
“Kazuki now that we know names and such, tell me where you met such a rambunctious litt…er, young lady?”
Before Kazuki could say anything, Danny Pointed to the city a few miles away and interrupted.
“Kazuki, the city is burning. I suggest we save this conversation for later and help.”
Kazuki and the rest could see many fires still spreading through the city and plenty of fallen buildings. After Dreunz’s crash into the ground, a large quake spread out through the entire Feya continent and damage was vast and wide. Even though Zetrazz made his move and repaired the split continent, he had no care for any human structures nor the people that resided in and around them. This left terrible collateral damage rampant all over.
Words needn’t be said at this point. Everyone went forward to help. Kazuki grabbed little Mei and tossed her on his shoulders before he took to the skies to get a better view. At the same time, he wrapped some of his aura around the unconscious Bozek and carried him along.
Kazuki’s speed into the sky was incredibly fast and at first he forgot how fast he could be and was worried about Mei but a pleasent child like laughter rang out above his head.
“Hehehe, so fast! I didn’t know the wind could feel so clear when you move that fast! Kazuki, please teach me how to fly that quickly. I want to feel this wind through my feathers at this speed.”
Hearing Mei’s cute giggle brought a warm feeling to Kazuki’s heart. He had missed this laugh of Mei’s.
“Sure. Later when things have settled down, I’ll teach you how to fly even faster than the wind itself. How’s that sound?”
Mei’s eyes widened in awe.
“Big brother Kazuki, is…is that even possible?”
Kazuki smiled.
“Maybe, hehehe?”
Mei started to grow excited.
“EH EH EH. Big brother no teasing, you promise?”
Kazuki raised a pinky and before he could even say that he promises, Mei’s little pinky hooked around his as fast as possible and she locked her finger on his.
“It’s a promise and it’s too late to take it back big brother.”
Kazuki chuckled at the cheeky brat.
“A promise it is.”
Although the moment was cute, Kazuki knew he should turn his attention downward. While Danny summoned a large amount of rain to deal with the ongoing fires, Tozu, Sasai, and Shaila moved and started clearing debris and pulling people from the rubble. In conjunction with the others, many mages and soldiers and even normal citizens did their part to help rescue and heal.
Kazuki looked down below and took in the entire city in his vision. Understanding the situation, Kazuki spread his aura outward and covered the entire city. Instead of a pressuring power, he used it to lift every building that had fallen or collapsed in the city at once. At the same time, he sensed all living beings in the city and placed some of his aura around them. Not to crush them but instead had a barrier of his aura covering them for protection.
Several people who were burning from the fires and were trapped in bad spots, suddenly the fire was reported from their body and they were protected. Thousands of people who were trapped beneath rubble, in one swift move, were completely freed.
Mei was stunned as she watched hundreds of collapsed buildings and rubble suddenly fly up into the sky. She could not sense aura so she had no clue how any of this was happening.
“Big brother, are you the one doing all of this?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“I’m only lifting things and protecting a few people at the same time. Danny and the others are doing far more.”
Whether that was true or not was up for debate. As hundreds of broken buildings rose up into the sky, it left the citizens dumbfounded and stunned. The moment all of the buildings were lifted into the air, many people feared they would all come falling back down in some twisted cruel fate but again they were left awed as all of the broken buildings, all at once, they all vanished into thin air.
Mei looked at Kazuki and saw his eyes glow before his ring did, the very next moment the buildings had vanished and she was shocked.
‘”Big brother! Did you just use magic without a magic ring? I thought humans couldn’t do that. First, you come back from the dead and your body is huge like uncle Glacious’s and then you use all of this strange power, what happened to you big brother?”
“Am I that strange Mei Mei?”
Mei nodded and nodded again. She spread her arms far and wide as if to measure something.
“Strange, super strange.”
“Hmm, I guess maybe I am a bit strange. All the things that happened to me, around me. At this point, if it means being alive, a little strange is just fine with me. As for the magic part. Well, after learning from someone that’s really strong, I[‘ve learned to control my magic to near perfection. When it comes to magic tools, they are no longer required for me to use magic efficiently.”
Mei nodded along but in the end, she blurted out.
“Yep super strange.”
Kazuki was a little down but there wasn’t much he could do about the way Mei feels. As he thought up to here though, Mei leaned forward and hugged the top of Kazuki’s head. She laid her face on Kazuki’s head and rubbed her nose in his hair. Inhaling deeply, a sweet smile spread across her face.
“So strange but you still smell like the old Kazuki. Even with all the changes, the smell is the same. Big brother Kazuki is still big brother Kazuki. Yep yep yep. Strange but the same, hehehe.”
Kazuki’s expression relaxed and softened.
“You two Mei. Still the same.”
*Thud*
Mei punched the top of Kazuki’s head. Whether she meant to do it hard or not, Kazuki barely felt it. Mei quickly started to complain.
“What do you mean Mei is the same. I’ve gotten taller and more mature. Mei is super smart and super big. I changed, even mama said so, so you better take that back right now big brother!”
Kazuki couldn’t help but chuckle and Mei started hitting him on the head repeatedly in response.
“Hehehe, ok ok, I’m sorry. Mei is super big and super smart alright, so will you please stop hitting mean, it’s starting to itch.”
Mei grunted.
“Hmph, that’s right, and don’t you forget it.”
