Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 50

“Eugh, where am I

Bozek felt his head spin with dizziness as he slowly opened his eyes. The moment Kazuki and the others came into his view. Bozek felt the fear of God and scrambled backward on his ass. He thought he was about to be killed here and now by these monsters.

Bozek was not known for being a chicken shit. Even in the face of Garn and his floating palace, something he knew he could not defeat, something he knew he would die were he to face it. Even in that instance, he had stood his ground and prepared for death fearlessly. However, in front of Kazuki and these Ancient beasts, he felt something deep down. The dragon blood in his veins knew just how truly dangerous this group of people were and he could not overcome his initial beast instincts.

Mei walked over and shoved a large leg of meat in front of Bozek’s face.

“Old mister no need to be scared. Here I’ll share some of this with you but only this much. You can’t ask me for more no matter what.”

Bozek stared blankly between Mei the chunk of roasted meat in front of him and everyone else before his mind finally caught up with what was going on. He remembered that the figure in the dust was actually Kazuki, someone Mei called brother. He knew of Kazuki and knew he wasn’t evil but that didn’t stop him from looking around the room in confusion.

“This place is?”

Mei snorted before taking the meat back and taking a large bite of it.

“Fine, I guess you don’t want it. Don’t ask for it. Look I’m even biting it so you better not ask me to give it back old mister.”

Kazuki stepped in between Mei and Bozek and held out a hand before apologizing.

“Sorry about earlier. I didn’t know who you were and thought Mei Mei was in trouble.”

Bozek took Kazuki’s hand and stood up. The moment he grabbed hold of Kazuki, he couldn’t help but stare at his hand.

(It seems like a normal hand to me, yet this man has such power. Standing before him now, I can sense that he and I are both at the Core stage, but this young man has Aura, not only does he have an aura but it is crushingly powerful. How can this be?)

Kazuki pulled his hand back.

“Something wrong?”

Bozek didn’t know how to answer that and just said the first thing on his mind.

“You aren’t dead.”

Shaila was annoyed by this.

“How rude. As you can see Kazuki is alive and well.”

“Ah, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Bozek couldn’t even look Shaila in the eyes and was nervous. He was surrounded by powerful figures that would be described in legends. Each one could wipe him off the face of the map with the wave of a hand. Getting out of line with them, for sure would mean death. This Bozek was certain of. Bozek bowed his head immediately but Kazuki wasn’t into that and stopped him halfway.

“That’s not necessary. Shaila as well, this man is a bit nervous around all of us. Let’s not be too harsh now, shall we. He isn’t aware of the things you are.”

Shaila said nothing after that and sipped at her cup. After just learning of Kazuki’s past moments ago, she felt for him and the struggles he went through, so she took Bozek’s words as an insult.

Even though Kazuki was much younger than Bozek, Bozek still felt he should show proper respect for power meant more than age. Bozek cupped his fist.

“Thank you, sir Kazuki.”

Kazuki again waved Bozek’s actions away.

“Seriously, this is unnecessary. Just talk to me normally.”

Bozek nodded gladfully while Mei laughed.

“Hehehe, Old mister is too funny. Trying to bow and acting all respectful to big brother Kazuki. This is completely different from your usual crabby behavior.”

Bozek denied this immediately.

“I don’t know what Mei is talking about. I’m innocent.”

Mei started cracking up and both Shaila and Sasai laughed as well seeing the little miss bully him.

Kazuki rubbed Mei’s head.

“Ok, enough with the teasing. After all, you said this old man had been helping to look after you while you two traveled right?”

Mei nodded.

“Old mister can be crabby but he’s not bad, not bad at all.”

“If you say so, Mei. Bozek was it? I’ve heard of your name before. You were the right-hand man of the king back in the kingdom of Jin. You serve king Tobern if I remember correctly.”

Bozek shook his head.

“That was a bit ago. I now help King Brian, though due to circumstances, things were thrown upside down.”

This was the first Kazuki was hearing of this.

“For you to stop serving one king and then go to the side of another, King Tobern must want your head. How does someone like you end up all the way up here in the northeast and traveling with my little sister on top of all of that?”

Bozek looked confused for a moment before looking at Mei and then back to Kazuki.

“You mean Mei hasn’t mentioned my business. Mei, you know how important it is.”

Mei only now realized it herself. She had been so excited to see Kazuki and then finding out that Danny was here as well. After that, there was the city being rebuilt in only a few minutes and the mass healing of people. To top it all off, Kazuki had laid out a feast for her, Everything about Bozek had completely slipped her mind.

“AH, Big brother that’s right. Big sis Nunully, big sis Asuna, they’re both in trouble!”

Mei quickly began to explain but her thoughts weren’t very clear and she got confused about the actual details. While her mother as well as Lamia and Bozek were discussing things, she was distracted and wasn’t paying attention. All she really got was that her people were in danger and Bozek needed to deliver a message thingy.

When she finished, she was red in the face but Neither Kazuki nor anyone else understood everything she was talking about. Kazuki though knew she was serious when she said Nunully and Asuna were in danger. Turning back to Bozek, Kauzki’s expression turned serious.

“Bozek, tell me everything in detail, and don’t you dare leave anything out. Do you understand me?”

Bozek gulped. Even though he and Kazuki were both at the same stage, he knew he could not stand up to him. It was a dreadful feeling knowing someone so young outmatched you in every way. Still, even if he was terrified, nothing should happen as long as he’s honest he thought,

Bozek quickly went over things, leaving nothing out. He told Kazuki how after he killed king Tobern, he started helping King Brian on the front lines. Garn was starting to lose his mind and was slipping up more and more. He was pushing the boundary too far and everything came to a head between the two when Garn wanted him to burn a city full of innocent people. Bozek had refused and then the confrontation took place.

Just when Bozek thought he would be destroyed by Garn’s floating palace and was covered in the power of the weapon, he suddenly awoke in Glacious tiny world. There he met Mei and then Tsura and Lamia. When they found out what Garn and done they grew worried for Nunully and the others.

If Garn continued to kill innocents as he was, it would only be a matter of time before Nunully and the others got in his way and he went after them. With Garn losing his shit and Glacious and Etora having little time to rest, they had no inkling of what he was up to. Garn was already killing innocent people as well as his own allies. Why wouldn’t he kill Nunully or the others. If he thinks he can get away with it and removes those who don’t obey him, there’s no reason he wouldn’t kill them and label them traitors.

Shaila and the others were left shell-shocked.

“This human called Garn, he would really kill so many of his own kind, for what reason?”

Bozek still couldn’t look Shaila in the eyes but he still answered the best he could.

“Garn has lost his mind. He believes by killing millions of people now, he will prevent worse things from happening in the future like famine or rebellion. Even though we’re in the middle of a war for humanity, even up to this point, Garn only sees these people as obstacles in his way. Its this belief that he is entirely in the right that has unhinged him fully. Noe wherever he looks he can only see enemies and no allies. I’ve met Nunully and Asuna both. Asuna has a righteous heart and Nunully can be far too kind for her own good. Seeing the injustice of what Garn is doing, there is no doubt they will try and stop him.”

Tozu was still thinking logically and asked.

“The consequences of harming this Nunully girl. She is like family to Glacious. We all know how Glacious reacts to those that commit harm to the ones he cares for. The last time such a thing happened, Glacious went on a massacre and received the title of dragon slayer. It didn’t matter that the other dragons hailed from the same clan as he. They conspired and murdered his husband. After that, there was no rock one could hide under where Glacious would not find you and then kill you. Surely Garn knows this and wouldn’t touch a single hair on Nunully’s head right?”

Bozek shook his head adamantly.

“Senior, you are not understanding what I’m saying. Garn has become insane. He is no longer thinking rationally. Not only that, Glacious has been busy nonstop, Garn will no doubt believe he can get away with her killing. This is why I came to this town, er city. I need to get a new power source for my communication device so that I can warn King Brian and he can warn Nunully and the others before it’s too late.”

At this moment, Kazuki looked at Mei.

“Mei, it seems our time must be cut short here.”

Mei tilted her head in confusion before Kazuki added on.

“Bozek, I know we don’t know each other at all but since Tsura has trusted you, I will also place my trust in you. Look after Mei for me while I’m gone.”

Mei and Bozek realized what he meant and Bozek shouted.

“You mean to say you are going? I know you’re strong. I know all of you are incredibly strong but Garn has his floating palace. It can fully withstand beings equal to the 6th stage!”

Mei grabbed Kauzki’s hand. She looked up at him with a sad expression but she couldn’t say anything. Kazuki knelt down and gave her a big hug.

“I thought you were mature. Big girls don’t sry right?”

Mei fought back her tears and nodded.

“Right. Mei Mei is a big big girl, she doesn’t have to… to cry.”

“Mei…I promise I’ll be coming back in a little while. Just keep the old mister company and don’t tease him too much. I’ll bring you something sweet when I return.”

Mei shook her head.

“I don’t care about sweets, I don’t want them. You just better come back or I’ll…I’ll be pissed.”

Kazuki’s eyes widened before he smiled and pat Mei’s head.

“I better get going and hurry up. I wouldn’t want to see you when you’re pissed, hehe.”

Mei as well laughed as she still fought to hold in her tears. Kazuki turned around and without looking back he turned into a flash of light and disappeared over the horizon.

Danny and the rest followed after him but it was obvious they could not match his speed and he quickly outpaced them all, disappearing into the distance.

(Asuna…Nunully…Wait for me!)
