Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 61

After the destruction of the city before him, Garn had a fiendish smile stretched across his face, that is until he noticed something was off. By now, the people in his floating palace had grown fearful of King Garn. Garn was no fool and he recognized their clear fear. He only found it distasteful knowing they feared him but better they fear him and follow like trained puppies instead of disobedient and disloyal mutts.

With that fear ever-present and constant, Garn now found it odd that those around him right now, it wasn’t fear they were feeling, rather relief instead. Garn wondered why they seemed strange and were acting odd when he noticed something gleaming out of the corner of his eye.

One of the many Mages in his throne room held something small in his hand and a few people were gathered around looking at something intensely.

“What is that?”

As soon as these Mages heard their King’s call, a chill ran down their spine. The Mage holding the object tried to hide it but Garn curled his finger and the object flew out of the man’s hands and into Garn’s.

A small recording crystal hovered above Garn’s hand. It displayed a video that he recognized right away.

(This is right outside my palace. It’s showing me the destroyed city and everything else. Since when has this been playing?)

A thought jumped in Garn’s head.

(If this was showing him live feedback from what he was doing, that meant there was a receiver somewhere catching all of this. If it’s playing back here, who else could be watching?)

Garn waved his scepter in the air and a bolt of lightning shot forward toward the original recording crystal.

*CHshh*

The crystal shattered and broke into dozens of tiny specs and the live feed being displayed in front of him was instantly cut off and went blank.

Garn’s anger grew. He waved his scepter once more and a great deal of wind pressure came crashing down atop the Mage, nearly breaking his bones. Garn shouted at the Mage who had the magic crystal.

“You bastard! Are you a spy? How did you see all of this and who are you working with?”

The Mage was dumbfounded. He was absolutely terrified and had no courage to do something so bold as to spy on him. He tried to answer but the air in his lungs was pressed out as he was being crushed beneath Garn’s wind pressure. His face turned pale and then blue and he passed out.

“Not answering me means death!”

Just as Garn was about to kill him, Asuna’s loud voice pierced the palace.

“NOW THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE! EVERYONE ON FEYA KNOWS THE MONSTER YOU’VE BECOME AND WILL NO LONGER FOLLOW YOUR TYRANNICAL WAYS! GARN! SURRENDER NOW OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO KILL YOU!”

Garn wondered what Asuna was going to say but this left him stunned. After the initial stun, came the rage and then action.

Power gathered in his scepter as he willed his floating palace to aim at Asuna and the others.

“You dare pull such a move against me, King Garn! I should have aimed for you pathetic lot before the city. That mistake I will not make it twice!”

Garn spoke up to here before launching his attack without hesitation.

The power of lightning, fire, light, and darkness, shot forth in four different directions. By firing all four of these attacks side by side, they would become a plasma-like beam of energy and could threaten a being at the 6th stage. The flaw in this though is when there were multiple enemies that could move at high speed. the four beams could not be fired side by side and be expected to hit an enemy. Instead, Garn would split these four elements, sending them flying toward different opponents.

By doing so the power of these elements was weakened but they were still more than enough to kill anything below the fourth stage in a single hit and possibly kill someone at the 5th stage with enough firepower.

A bolt of lightning came raining down atop Asuna, while fire raced toward Sam and Kimi. A solid laser-like beam of light focused in a straight line and went for Nunully while the element of darkness became a column of devastation and came slashing down atop Shin and Triska.

Asuna and the others all expected this and were ready. Asuna’s eyes and ring all glowed with purple light. The golden hoop in her grip was thrown forward with her fastest speed and it came between her and the lightning. The golden hoop shined and the bolt of lightning vanished into the ring. Asuna then tossed the hoop high into the sky and aimed it back at Garn’s palace.

*TZSHHTTT*

The same bolt of lightning that entered the golden ring suddenly came flying back out and landed atop the palace’s protective barrier before bouncing off.

*Tch*

Asuna clicked her tongue but she already knew it wouldn’t be so easy.

The fire blazing across the ground came upon Sam and Kimi. Kimi confidently took a step back into Sam’s large chest and he opened his arms with a wide embrace. The green suit of armor covering the surface of his body opened up and covered both him and Kimi in a protective shell right as the flames bathed them in an intense inferno.

The laser-focused light hotter than the sun came upon Nunully who didn’t avoid the light rather with large ice wings she flew toward it to face it head-on. Two gauntlets made of frozen ice covered her hands and formed claws at the end of her fingers. Her hands came together as if she were going to pray and the light hit them precisely where she wanted it to.

*CHHHHH*

The sound of ice melting and breaking occurred at first but it was obvious the light was being reflected away. Nunully condensed her ice, making it harder to melt and the ice wings upon her back flapped at high speed as she flew further into the beam of light. She made it all the way to the barrier and her ice became smooth and she made the surface of it reflect back like a mirror.

The beam of light began to bounce between her reflective ice and the palace’s barrier until its power faded and the light disappeared. Once it was gone, Nunully reached forward with her gauntlet made of ice and touched the surface of the barrier. The protective ice covering her hand started to melt away at a rapid speed but she continued to release her ice, as well as a large wall of water, several hundred feet tall. The water fell atop the barrier and was again bounced away, though as it was bounced away, Nunully froze it, forcing it to fall back down onto the protective barrier.

The barrier started to freeze over with a small layer of ice.

Garn smirked and the barrier changed its flow of energy slightly and the magic in Nunully’sa ice was drawn directly into the barrier, causing her ice to unfreeze and become water once more. A small back and forth began to take place between the two.

At the same time, the dark energy that came slashing down toward Shin and Triska was of no consequence or rather it shouldn’t have been.

Shin kicked with a sharp angle and several large blades of wind came cutting outward, chopping the dark energy apart and dividing it multiple times. Garn would not let things go so easily though. He had learned much about the Miasma and found a better way to control the dark energy of the palace with a much greater mastery.

The dark energy that Shin cut formed back together and came flying toward them. Triska grunted in annoyance watching this as she thought Shin was still playing around. Taking the large trident in her hands, she aimed for the center of the now dark forming cloud and launched it forward with crazy strength.

The trident was thrown with incredible force and tore through both the air as well as the dark cloud of energy. Her trident went in one end of the cloud and out the other. This caused a large tornado to occur and it spun the dark energy into a small funnel. COntrolling the wind, Triska shrunk the funnel and at the same time made several wind blades inside of it to continually cut the dark energy, thereby shredding it to nothingness.

Once she destroyed it all, her trident came racing back from the distance and landed perfectly in her hand. She gave Shin a knowing and teasing nod but the expected embarrassment did not occur from Shin. Instead, he smiled at her the way he always does.

“Nice. Just watch me get the next one though. I’ll show you what it means to control the wind.”

Triska was slightly disappointed but at the same time, this was the time when Shin’s good points shined the most.

The very next moment, the shell covering Sam and Kimi pulled back and Kimi raised her single arm into the air. Aiming at the barrier she gnashed her teeth.

“Do you have any idea how hot it gets in there. Damn you, Garn, making a woman sweat like this. It’s just another reason why you should die.”

Sam raised a brow to that statement but he said nothing. Kimi fired her own light magic into the air while Sam’s eyes started to glow with emerald green light. At the same time, the ground began to shake as he flew into the air with a change of gravity.

Kimi quickly followed. Golden white wings made of light formed around her back and she took off into the skies.

The battle had begun.
