Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 63
The shrinking of the barrier accelerated after Garn used even more power from the 7 cores within the palace. A large drain occurred as the power swelled for a moment before exploding outward like a hundred erupting volcanoes.
The beam of fire and beam of dark energy swirled around each other like a spiraling storm and Tore through Nunully’s armor, ripping it to shreds almost instantly. Nuunlly was forced to flee backward otherwise, she would have been reduced to ash then and there.
Her retreat window was small as the barrier continued to close. Her only choice became heading toward Shin or heading towards Kimi. The decision was obvious. She raced toward Shin while the two spiraling beams of energy behind her gave chase and followed as if this power had a mind of its own.
Shin continued to throw bolts of lightning at Garn’s lightning, thereby canceling it out. At the same time, he was protecting Kimi in one of his hurricanes while also controlling other hurricanes and tornadoes to help block the random attacks Garn threw. He was overwhelmed but seeing Nunully being chased, he inhaled deeply.
As he took in a titanic breath, the tornadoes and hurricanes he had created before, started to slow in their rotation before reversing and being pulled directly into his mouth.
The sight was unbelievable as Shin directly swallowed these storms in one large gulp. The power of wind gathered in his lungs and several ribs in his torso cracked and broke purposefully as his chest expanded with copious amounts of air. His eyes glowing with silver light, Shin roared at the top of his lungs.
“RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The moment his mouth opened, the air inside his lungs compressed several times over and a tornado filled with wind blades and bolts of lightning came out with a brilliant white-blue light. This single tornado was enough to level several mountains at once. The wind blades inside this dangerous storm could shred a mountain into tiny ribbons if need be.
As his roar echoed out before the storm had even collided with Garn’s power, everyone in the nearby facility had their eardrums explode and their internal organs vibrated violently. Were any of them at the 3rd stage or below, this roar alone would have shaken their insides so terribly that their organs would have been turned to a mushy bloody paste.
Wind blades and lightning came crashing into the combined energy beam of both ever-burning flame and seemingly infinite darkness.
A battle of back and forth did not take place as one would imagine. Instead, to Garn’s absolute surprise, Shin’s powerful roar destroyed his flames and darkness in seconds. Not only that, it didn’t stop, nor was it barely slowed. Blades of wind and lightning raced forward before slamming into the barrier covering Garn’s palace.
*SWHOOOOM*
This attack of Shin’s was so sharp and so destructive that when it hit Garn’s barrier, the sound of metal being shredded echoed out. It literally sounded as if someone took a sword and ran it back and forth across a glass surface.
This grating noise again was alone strong enough to kill a weak foe. This though was not its most devastating part. Instead, too many onlookers in and out of the palace, a sense of horror weld up from the bottom of their stomachs as this storm began to warp the barrier.
Just as Garn’s plasma attack warped and flexed the barrier around the city, Shin’s ultimate attack was doing the same. As if this barrier was a deep lake, the surface of it rippled violently when Shin chucked in a boulder of his so-called attack.
Garn did not believe his attack would get through but at the same time, Garn had used far more energy than he wished, to fight these bastards. Something in the back of his mind gnawed at him and he instinctively recalled all the power and even began absorbing some of the energy from Shin’s attack to refill his power supply.
The moment he did this, maybe it truly was fate or luck because the very next moment, Nunully hovered slightly above Shin, and above her were hundreds of pieces of flat ice in the shape of a circle. Each piece of ice was placed a few inches apart in front of the other. From above her head to more than a thousand feet out and from big to small. Each piece was as clear as day and was magnified to a certain extent.
Shin was out of breath from his attack but he still managed to call out in a wheeze.
“Kimi, do it.”
Kimi couldn’t hear these words because her eardrums were still regenerating but if she did, maybe she would have to admit that Shin sounded pretty cool at this moment. That or she would nag and tell him to stop trying to act cool. Either way, that was none of her concern.
Kimi was already behind the large clear piece of ice Nunully had created. Her hand extended outward and her eyes and ring glowing golden white. She called upon all of the magic inside of her and set it loose like a raging demonic dragon.
“BEAM OF LIGHT!”
All of her power came rushing out like a river and a beam of highly concentrated and laser-focused light came pouring out. A beam of light hotter than the sun itself hit the first large piece of clear ice and the moment it hit it, the outcome was something Garn had not predicted. The piece of ice which should have melted under such intense heat, instead remained perfectly intact as Nunully continued to pour her power into it. The beam of light was instead magnified and became more precise, more destructive.
It magnified through the first piece of ice and hit the second and then the third. Each time it passed through one of these pi8eces of ice, it grew in power. On and on and on again, its power climbed and accelerated with unprecedented speed. In less than a second, it had traveled through every single layer of ice before racing straight toward the barrier. By the time it reached the barrier, it became just as strong as Shin’s attack if not slightly more.
Her power, with the help of Nunully’s amplification, struck the barrier barely a second after Shin’s attack landed, and the power of both wind, lightning and light, drilled into Garn’s barrier.
The rumbling and ripples across the surface of the barrier at first resembled the surface of a lake if someone had dropped a boulder. Now, however, with Kimi’s attack stacked with Shin’s, the chaos of these powers did not simply double to two boulders falling into a lake but into dozens. The ripples then created more ripples and those ripples began to smash into one another at a faster and faster pace until the unexpected took place.
*Shrrrrrrip*
A small hole opened into the barrier and a small amount of both Shin’s storm and Kimi’s light pierced completely through.
*BOOOOOOM!*
The moment both their powers broke through, it immediately hit the palace and drilled completely through it and out the other side. The power continued out of one side and hit the inside of the barrier. It wasn’t strong enough to continue forward and break out of the other side of the barrier so it bounced back and struck the palace once again, carving off a large chunk of the palace in the process.
Garn and everyone else inside the palace were rocked as the palace shook violently. Many people were thrown to the floor from the initial shake, while more than a hundred people died the moment the combined attack pierced through the palace. Many wings of the palace were destroyed in an instant and with a large chunk of it obliterated, it was only natural that many people died then and there.
Garn swiftly repaired the barrier and protected his palace once more. At the same time, he was about to counter-attack when he saw Shin, Kimi, and Nunully all fall out of the sky at the exact same time.
*Thud thud thud*
All three fell to the ground like rag dolls and began to convulse and sweat profusely. Garn immediately recognized what had happened. Sensing that the 7 cores in his palace were still in perfect shape, Garn ignored the surface damage of his floating palace and laughed.
“Mana sickness, heheha! You three really put everything you had into that attack and yet here I am, perfectly alive. My palace still stands and you didn’t even damage any of the cores. All of that effort and for what!? Every single one of you risked your lives, risked your futures, and now, all of it becomes meaningless. Now you shall all die.”
Garn raised his scepter once more and took a look at the edge of his further most barrier. He wanted to gloat in front of Asuna. He wanted to rub it in and show her how foolish all of her actions and all of her defiance was but the moment he looked over he became confused.
(She…Where did she go?)
The moment he thought this, a loud explosion rang out within his palace.
*Crack Ka-Boom!*
