Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 74
All conversations froze and silence filled the wide-open room. Tozu, Sasai, and Shaila understood just how scary and terrifying Kazuki had become when the so-called Vazul took over his body. All of them were getting their asses handed to them and were on the verge of death whilst facing Dreunz alone. The moment the Vazul took over Kazuki’s body, the tables were completely flipped.
It was Dreunz instead who was on the run and it was Kazuki who was possessed by the dark being that did the chasing. In that state, the Vazul nearly killed Dreunz but was stopped at the last moment by Zetrazz’s seal. If not for Zetrazz, the dark being would have finished Dreunz there and then but instead he was allowed to get away in the single moment that the Vazul faced off against Zetrazz.
Everyone understood clearly the power a Vazul had and the potential it held. Left unchecked, the Vazul would only grow in strength until the body it possessed could no longer handle it and exploded. These Ancient beasts understood just how terrifying a force a Vazul was, yet Etora said he ate it. Not only that he said it in such a casual way as if it was a common breeze passing by.
Etora noticed the stares he was now getting but he could only laugh as he explained.
“Bwahahaha. That Vazul that tried to possess me, its luck was rather bad. Out of every creature in this wide-open world, it tried to eat me, hahaha.”
Kazuki leaned in expecting more but Etora just started stuffing his face some more.
“Well!”
Etora released a loud belch before picking at his teeth.
“Hmm, well what?”
“Are you kidding right now? Tell me the rest. You can’t just casually mention you ate a Vazul and continue on like it’s nothing. I nearly died from one and even now the seal inside of me, who knows how long it will last. I need to know if there’s a way to beat it or not and the sooner the better. Just how in the world did you eat it? What did you mean when you said its luck was bad when it tried to eat you? Please tell me.”
“Alright alright just calm down Kazuki. Though even if I tell you, I don’t think it will be of much help to you.”
Kazuki wanted to scream at this dumb mutt but he kept his cool.
Etora scratched his cheek. Kazuki wanted to hear his tale no matter what, that much was obvious. Before he explained it though he wanted to know how Kazuki came into contact with a Vazul in the first place. After all for all, he knew there were only two beings in this world that had a gate inside their soul world that connected to where the Vazul’s dwelled.
“First tell me how you came into contact with a Vazul. That’s not something that one just stumbles across.”
Kazuki quickly explained how it happened. He mentioned how he had Abura’s memories and how Abura had gotten the devouring ability from his adopted father the Boar King. He was desperate inside a monster’s stomach and was on the verge of death. With the help of Kai and Danny, they helped in creating that gate inside of him, by following the exact way Abura had inherited it.
After everything was said and done, Etora came to understand what happened and was quite shocked.
“That Boar King you spoke of. Actually, it was me who first gifted him the ability to devour. Long ago I formed that gate in him. To think after all of those years, he would die and pass it on to a human and that you would one day end up taking that fat human’s memories and killing him. What sort of fate is it that you would find yourself in such a situation and form the void gate inside yourself.”
Etora found it hard to believe. It was too coincidental. Something he did so long ago came back around in such a fantastical yet sorrowful way.
“You three didn’t even know what it was you were unleashing. What a twist of events.”
Etora was lost in thought for a moment as he processed all of this.
“How strange. To think something I did in the past would come around. You saved me. Allowed me to escape from the floating prison. I was desperate and felt as if death would take me at any given moment and then I saw you in the darkness. Later on down the line, when you were in a prison yourself, it was a power I left behind that would allow you to escape the clutches of death. How mysteries and weird.”
Kazuki felt a chill run down his spine. He didn’t think about it like that but the fact that he saved Etora and then he himself in a similar situation, what an odd happening. Kazuki couldn’t help but think about his golden compass and gripped it tightly for a moment. He had wondered long ago if his compass led him toward his fate but had knocked that thought away long ago. After finding out that there was a godly aura within his compass and then hearing from Zetrazz that the godly aura was used as something akin to an eye. Kazuki felt as if there were some invisible strings and he was a puppet.
It was the compass that led him to refind magic back on Earth. It was his compass that led him to find Ryuta and it was also the compass that led him to the exact time, date, and location of when the teleporting circle would form and take him back to Gordonia.
Kazuki hadn’t been one to believe in things like fate. Hearing Etora talk about it, Kazuki’s instincts were saying something different and he couldn’t help but feel as if the invisible strings had been tugged. Maybe he was thinking too deeply or maybe he was paranoid but what he knew for sure was that he absolutely detested whatever it was.
Etora began to quickly explain what had happened.
“The moment the gate inside of me grew too great and that Vazul bastard escaped from within the void, the first thing it tried to do was devour my soul. Unfortunately for it, my aura is incredibly strong. You yourself had a taste of it earlier. I’ll admit I was surprised by you earlier. Not only is your aura vast and deep like an ever-expanding river, but you also have great mastery and control over it. You even did something with it that I’m unfamiliar with. It felt as if your aura compounded and became even stronger while we were fighting.”
Kazuki gave a nod.
“I learned a few things about aura from a great king. One thing that I developed was a way to fold my aura, creating layers upon layers of it. These layers allow me to pull out more strength and increase my aura’s toughness so to speak.”
Etora smiled.
“Interesting trick. You’ll have to teach that to me later on. That alone though would not have been enough to take me on. I had only just shown you a fraction of my aura’s true strength. Had I gone all out, you would have been in my stomach as we speak. Right now, your aura feels as if it’s above the 6th stage yet far below the 7th. For you to reach this level while only being at the Core stage is unfathomable.”
Etora realized he was going down the wrong road and went back to the topic at hand.
“Anyway, not to brag but even among those at the 7th stage, my aura is quite distinct and powerful. The Vazul tried to compete with me when it came to the soul and couldn’t take advantage in any way. It didn’t stop there though. As you know, the Vazul bastards grow stronger when they devour things, mainly strong energy. The Vazul wished to eat up all of my magic energy but as you know, I am a bit odd.”
Kazuki knew he was different but he didn’t quite understand.
“Odd, how?”
Etora tapped Kazuki’s chest.
“Inside you, although it is intangible but residing inside of your soul world is your Mage core.”
Etora then pointed at Sasai and the other Ancient beasts.
“Him him her. All of them have Beast cores which contains all of their magical energy.”
Tapping his own chest, Etora grinned widely.
“I on the other hand do not. Inside my body, there is no beast core of any kind. As you know I can not use any magic whatsoever. The reason being is because I was never born with one in the first place. Imagine that Vazul bastard’s surprise when it found no core to eat and grow, hahahahaha!”
Kazuki was shocked. Not just him but everyone else. They all were aware of Etora’s inability to use magic. He was a legend because of this. Strength so great that he stands near the top of the world using just his fist. Everyone that holds power knows of Etora. However, none of them ever assumed that he couldn’t actually use magic. They thought he could do something to some degree. After all, he was an Ancient beast. To become an Ancient beast, one must have a powerful beats core and must continue to absorb magical energy over hundreds if not thousands of years to advance. Yet Etora, without one, still managed to gain such overwhelming strength.
Everyone found it hard to believe. He had absolutely no power at all.
Etora loved seeing the dumbfounded expressions in front of him.
“Those dumb expressions, at the time I could not see the Vazul bastard’s face through all the dark energy but if I did, there’s no doubt it would have looked like you all do now. Hehehahaha.”
