Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 89
It was settled, Kazuki agreed to go, and naturally, that meant Shaila and the rest would follow. Before leaving though, something came to mind, an idea.
“Brian, you said there were eight of these fused Azirian’s, and you said they were headed to your base. That means you saw how fast they were moving right?”
“Yes. Those monsters grew great wings on their back. At the current speed they were flying, they should arrive in less than an hour. That is why it’s urgent for you all to move out right now, otherwise by the time you get here, it will be far too late.”
Kazuki held a hand up and stopped King Brian from continuing. The idea he had from earlier, he started to consider it deeply.
“Brian, you don’t know my speed nor my friends. To travel the continent they would need the time it takes a stick of incense to burn or less. As for me, I’m even faster than that.”
“What are you telling me? It almost sounds like you are going to delay your arrival but…That isn’t true…is it?”
Kazuki didn’t answer Brian and instead turned to Shaila.
“Shaila, you Tozu and Sasai will head further south. Triska, Shin, and Nunully you will go with them. Shaila, I’ll need you and the others to carry Nunully, Triska, and Shin on ahead. You six will hold things down at the base, while I and the rest play catch up. We will meet you as soon as possible.”
King Brian was confused. He was glad that the Ancient beasts would come but he didn’t understand why Kazuki would stay behind and wait.
“Kazuki, if you all wait, couldn’t things go bad. A minute delay could lead to all of our deaths, why do this?”
“Brian, to explain it all would take up too much time. To sum it up, I’m going to bring Asuna, Sam, and Kimi to the next level. Under my guidance, they will reach the Core stage and we will head over to you as soon as they advance.”
As soon as Kazuki said this, it wasn’t just King Brian who was shocked but everyone. Shaila’s interest piqued.
“Kazuki, can you do that!?”
Kazuki shrugged his shoulders.
“I can’t say for sure but I think it’s possible. That’s why I’m not sending Danny just yet. With his brains, I think he can round out my thought process and we can do this.”
Everyone still stood around, stunned in silence but Kazuki quickly clapped and the air made a small explosion. This snapped everyone out of it as he commanded.
“Now go!”
Shaila made the first move. She grabbed Nunully up by the waist.
“I’d hold on tightly, you wouldn’t want to fall away at the speed I’m about to go.”
*FWHOOSH*
The wind kicked up as Shaila took off with a burst of speed. Both her and Nunully were already dozens of miles away. Tozu was next. He scooped up Shin without second thought.
“Wait I’m pretty fast myself, I don’t nee
*FWHOOSH*
That was the last everyone heard before he too vanished over the horizon. Sasai’s mouth fell open as he watched this. The last person left was Triska, a woman. Triska looked at Sasai and was waiting for him to make a move but he just stared at her and began to turn pale.
“What’s wrong, we need to hurry.”
Kazuki already knew what the hang-up was and just said.
“You don’t have time to waste. Just imagine she’s a he and deal with it.”
Sasai mumbled curses under his breath at his older brother. Tozu knew exactly how he felt about most women yet he took the only guy and left. Sasai looked at Triska and focused on her broad shoulders. She was a woman clearly but her shoulders were slightly broader for a lady. Swallowing hard, Sasai grabbed Triska. Shutting his eyes he took off into the sky frantically. Using his aura to sense the right direction everyone else flew, he rushed forward as fast as possible as to let go of Triska as soon as possible.
Of course, as soon as the two left, the still stunned hologram of Brian went with them.
“Now, let’s step outside for the rest, shall we.”
Kazuki, Asuna, Danny, Kimi, and Sam all went outside of the palace.
Kazuki sat down with his legs crossed and a small circle formed around him as buts touched the hot sand.
“Kazuki, can you really increase our strength. I mean I don’t doubt you but if such a thing was possible, then wouldn’t most people already be at the 5th stage.”
To Asuna’s point, Danny answered for Kazuki.
“Not necessarily. Getting to the 4th stage, connecting the mind and body is something that is incredibly dangerous and if one isn’t strong mentally and can endure such horrible strain on the mind, their entire psyche can crack and crumble. If one’s mind falls apart, you’d most likely be reduced to a blubbering moron. Reaching the fourth stage, even if one had multiple lifetimes, is something that is incredibly difficult to do. The 5th stage however is a different story. Shin and Nunully reached the Core stage so you should know what I’m talking about. You know how one reaches the Core stage right?”
Kimi nodded as if this was a dumb question.
“By absorbing a massive amount of magical energy. We already know this.”
Danny nodded.
“Correct but also that isn’t all of it. Your confidence is something to be admired but too much of it will harm you and those around you.”
“What!”
Sam grabbed Kimi’s hand and held her back.
“Sam.”
Sam shook his head.
“There’s too much at stake right now and he’s not wrong. I’ve told you that too many times to count. Please let’s just listen for now.”
Kimi grumbled but she held her tongue.
“Danny, continue.”
“Absorbing a massive amount of power is not the end all be all. Taking in that energy it must go directly into your Mage core. You must then condense it down, solidifying it, and then purify it. After purification comes the expansion of the Mage core itself. You repeat these steps until your core can hold no more power. When you reach such a breaking point, you push one final time, the most dangerous push. Your core breaks purposefully and grows many times its original size. This causes a great disturbance in both your mage core as well as with your soul. This in turn can cause one’s magic to run rampant. Such a considerable amount of pure magical energy. Without control, it will go wild within one’s body and it will kill you. Even if you can control that much energy, to be able to absorb it all is something most people can not handle because their bodies are too fragile.”
Danny looked at Asuna and the others.
“Out of the three of you, the one with the best chance of reaching the 5th stage is Sam. He uses the element of Gordonia. Because of this element, his body grows stronger the more powerful he becomes. As for the element of space and light…”
Danny shook his head.
Asuna realized what this meant but she was determined.
“I can handle it.”
Danny’s metal face said otherwise and he just straight up denied her.
“You’re wrong. Even if you can hold out with everything else, your body is far too frail to handle that much magical energy. It would rip you to pieces.”
Asuna tried to argue back.
“That can’t be true. Nunully is far frailer than I ever could be yet she was able to reach the Core stage. If she can do it, so can I!”
Danny again shook his head.
“That’s different. Do you recall when everyone was trying to reach the 4th stage within Glacious’s mountain, inside that special room.”
Everyone nodded.
“Do you remember why Nunully wasn’t allowed to join you inside?”
Asuna and the others knew that sounded familiar but they couldn’t really recall it all in detail. It just wasn’t something that important for them to keep in mind at the time.
Kazuki filled the silence.
“Glacious found Nunully’s base to be unstable and weak. At the time her magic was already incredibly pure. If she were to continue chasing strength, she would fail under her own foundation. Glacious, therefore, did something special for Nunully. He managed to reduce her power and strength in order to increase her body’s foundation. How do you think she managed to catch up with everyone so quickly afterward. She had to start from the 3rd stage again yet she surpassed everyone and entered the 5th stage along with Shin. Her body is no doubt incredibly tough, even if she doesn’t look it.”
Asuna was dumbfounded.
“No way, she’s really that tough.”
Kimi then came to the natural conclusion after all of this was said and done.
“So then, how am I and Asuna supposed to reach the 5th stage. Are we just wasting our time here or what?”
All eyes turned to Kazuki.
“Kazuki, you said you needed me to stay behind. I believe it’s about time you tell us all your idea. How can we keep their bodies together and not ripping apart all over the place?”
