Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 9
Bozek tore through the air as he flew forward like a speeding meteor. Behind him was Triska as well as Shin.
After flying about 10 miles north of the mountain base, they had yet to leave the range of the Patar desert. Bozek paused at a certain spot in the air before he landed heavily on the desert floor. A plum of sand shot up in the air from his landing. He wasted no time. Extending his empty hand in the air, his ring lit up with emerald green light.
For more than a hundred miles left to right, he stabilized the land around him. After that Gripping seemingly nothing, the ground beneath his feet shifted. Grains of sand tumbled overtop of one another in the millions and a large trench began to form, stretching deep down into the world. From left to right, this trench expanded for a mile, then two and three. It was like the world was swallowing a part of itself as this trench only grew and grew for 50, 80, well over 100 miles. After it had finally reached this length and was nearly 50 feet deep, and several hundred feet across only then did Bozek stop.
After this trench was dug out fully, only then did Bozek take to the skies once more. His ring lit up and a large black glaive appeared in his hand. Taking hold of it with both hands, the power of fire built up, and with his will, a large fireball appeared. At the same time, some strange colored rocks came pouring out from his ring. With a wave of his hand, these rocks were tossed all through the range of this trench.
The fireball became larger and larger until it was several hundred feet in diameter. Bozek raised his glaive high above his head before slashing down towards the trench.
The fireball raced downward like a wild demonic bull before striking the trench.
*BOOOOM FSHHHHHH!*
An explosion followed by a blazing inferno kicking up with tremendous force. The wind alone from this explosion would decimate a mountain and bring it down in one go. The fire burned brighter and hotter and went from orangish-red to bright orange. All of the naturally forming rocks down below melted down and lava started to spread like a river all through the trench. Some of the sand along the trench walls and a little further outside of it became glass almost instantly, creating an interesting sight.
With a river of lava below, Bozek’s task was done at this location. Storing his glaive, he saw Triska and Shin catching up in the distance and grunted.
“So slow.”
After that, Bozek ignored their presence. Blue flames gathered beneath his feet and he left a streak of light as he flew ahead, disappearing in the distance. It would be faster to teleport but unfortunately, the places Bozek needed to place these rivers of lava were nowhere near a city that had a teleportation gate and he himself didn’t know how to use space magic. He could take Mage who did know with him but, that person would most likely not be able to handle the G forces he flew at.
Not only that, those who could use space magic were not as many as one would hope for. To take them from another task…It was simply easier for Bozek to fly ahead himself. Besides, he was incredibly fast. Even Triska and Shin who were both at the 5th stage weren’t as fast as he.
A few seconds after Bozek went ahead, Triska and Shin had both arrived above this lava trench.
Shin looked at the flow of lava with a bit of regret.
“So much money down the drain.”
Triska could see small glowing rocks/crystals at the bottom of the trench, they were the rocks Bozek had tossed down below.
“It can’t be helped. In order to keep this lava hot and make the Azirian’s change their route, a large amount of Acadian crystal has to be sacrificed. Those crystals will absorb the heat from the lava and in return will convert it into magical energy, in doing so, it will then reheat the lava and keep it flowing perpetually. This lava, as long as nothing happens, it will stay in this liquid state and continue to burn hot and not harden for 10,000 years. Those crystals are worth a fortune but it simply can’t be helped.”
“Still, all of that money, gone like this. You don’t get it because you and Degra own a city together but I’ve had empty pockets most of my life.”
Triska grabbed Shin by his collar before dragging him out of the air.
“Stop complaining you child, we have work to do.”
Shin chuckled.
“Hehe, why so dark, you were smiling this morning were you not?”
Triska felt some heat on her cheeks and it wasn’t from the river of lava flowing by. Her trident pointed at Shin for a moment as she thought about killing him and tossing his body in the lava but of course, she decided not to.
“Stop speaking!”
She then tossed him to the ground but before he crashed, a gust of wind gathered beneath him and cushioned his fall.
He floated around in the air in a lying down position with a teasing smile.
“Seeing that expression is so cute. No one else in the world gets to see such a look.”
Triska’s brows furrowed and a few sparks of electricity danced at the three tips of her trident.
“Are you mocking me!?”
Shin smiled and shook his head.
“No, I just think seeing this side of you makes me the luckiest man in the world. Who else but me gets to see this cute side of you?”
Triska was known to be cold and rarely showed emotions but these words from Shin seemed to pierce her heart and she didn’t know what to say nor could she look him in the eyes right now. She always felt confused around Shin. No man ever treated her like a woman. They always feared her or schemed and plotted against her. Shin though was different. Yes, he feared her in the beginning but the more time they spent around one another, the more he joked with her, and teased her. Even when she threatened to kill him or hurt him, he would only tease more and didge her attacks. Though he couldn’t escape all of her blows, this didn’t stop him from teasing her even more.
Triska didn’t know if he was crazy or simply liked the abuse but the more she interacted with him, the more she learned that this was just the way he was. He didn’t care who you were, he just genuinely wanted to have a laugh or two with you. It was this odd behavior of his, and the fact that he treated her like everyone else, that made her heart soften and slowly open to him. Eventually, the two came to know one another even more intimately, and now there was no turning back.
Sometimes she really didn’t know how to react to Shin’s jokes and teasing but eventually, when she saw his honest smile and heard his laugh, it somehow relaxed her and gave her comfort.
Shin could see that he was putting Triska in a difficult spot. He calmly floated behind her and tapped her on her shoulder. She turned around and he had disappeared. Her brows furrowed she turned back and he appeared directly in front of her face, causing her lips to land on his cheek.
“Shin you!”
Shin smiled before putting on a serious expression.
“Triska what are you waiting for, let’s get to work. Didn’t you say we have a job to do?”
Shin then turned around, pretending not to notice the stunned expression on Triska’s face.
Seeing him just instantly get to work, after he got that kiss, Triska gripped her trident before her expression softened, a small fluttery feeling rising up from the bottom of her stomach. The way he was now rocking hard and seriously, a small laugh escaped her lips before she got to work as well.
“Fine, we’ve got things to do but later, you’re mine.”
Shin smiled.
“I’m always yours, hehehe.”
Bozek had stabilized the ground for a hundred miles in two directions. With it hardened all around, Triska and Shin backed a few hundred feet away from the lava trench. Their rings opened, and several large metallic plates came out. These metallic plates were not whole and had many spots carved out like large stencils. These empty spots were inscription markings. Together these plates were made of special material and weighed several tons apiece.
Because of their size, Triska and Shin had both received specially made storage rings from Garn that had nearly 50 feet of space in diameter within.
Laying the metal plates down and arranging them in order on the open ground, Triska and Shin made sure everything was perfectly in order before hovering above them and holding out a hand above them. As their magic rings lit up, small arcs of lightning gathered above their hands.
