Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 97
Kazuki’s ring flashed and the floating palace appeared in the open air.
The moment Asuna and Kimi saw it, the two felt nauseous. Everyone inside had died as Kazuki tried to make an escape from the enclosing Miasma. He had dragged the palace behind and moved at a speed too great for those inside to survive. Asuna and Kimi knew this well as they two had almost died from Kazuki’s extreme speed.
The thought of all of those people who were a few minutes ago alive and well, now dead, was something that churned the stomach.
“Kazuki, why do you still have all of those bodies in there. It’s creepy.”
Kimi’s words were on point to some degree but Kazuki thought differently.
“The people in here, I think their families would like to have their remains. Not only that, if I just simply throw the bodies away and into the Miasma, I’d be feeding it and letting it grow. Maybe not by much but I still don’t like the thought of giving my enemy any advantages whatsoever.”
Kimi could say nothing about that. They had all been through way too much and seen devastating cruelty and what Kazuki ahd done was anything but. He tried to save them all but in the end he couldn’t. Dying the way they did was a terrible way to go but it was dying this way with a small hope of survival or dying in agony by the Miasma. Kauzki tried and failed but the fact that he tried and didn’t simply toss them all aside and save himself, maybe that would help them in some small way pass on, knowing that they wern’t just abandoned to a tormenting death…maybe.
Kazuki removed the cores from within the palace before storing the palace along with the bodies back into his ring.
The moment Asuna saw the cores she had an idea.
“Wait Kazuki. Why shouldn’t we use those cores to power the palace and use it to teleport out of here? Surely that would be easier than making a crazy amount of lightning and trying to control it.”
“Things are not so simple. The only known way to control the palace was through Garn’s scepter, which even if it was still here, none of us would be able to use the scepter anyway. Maybe there is another way to operate the floating palace but if there is I definitely do not know of it. After activating the scepter is the palace moved by willpower alone, did Garn have a secret method or a secret code to pilot it? All of these things are a complete unknown and we have no time to learn how to pilot a one-of-a-kind palace ship thing.”
What Kazuki said made sense. Using an unfamiliar magic toll was already something not easily done. Not only that but even if one can use it, to control the palace itself, the task could be easy or insanely difficult. It could be like pouring a glass of water or literally trying to put a puzzle together with missing pieces or something else ridiculous. Right now there was just simply no time to try and test through everything.
Asuna gave up on the idea but she also found a problem with Kazuki’s.
“You said you would use these cores as a power source so that Danny can make lightning right?”
“Yes.”
“This many cores…isn’t it not enough? You said Fera had used up most if not all of her power and with those artificial bodies of hers she drew out strength between the 6th and 7th stage but these cores even if you had all of them could only draw out enough power to deal 6th stage attacks. Before we ever attacked Garn, one of his people had damaged one of the cores and more things happened after that. Now out of all of the cores, the ones that remain completely intact and undamaged are those 5 you hold now. This much, won’t it be a problem?”
Kazuki didn’t know how many cores there were to start as he didn’t know every detail about Garn’s palace. When Garn was going to make the palace self-destruct with his final trick, Kazuki had searched the entire palace with his aura in less than a second. He had discovered several rooms that housed only these cores but these weren’t the only rooms like this. In total, he had found around 20 or so similar rooms but most of them were completely empty.
Kazuki theorized that Garn was going to upgrade his palace once more. He was going to make more of these strange cores but things must have gotten in his way. If Garn had made and installed the other cores, Kazuki wondered if he would have been capable of breaking through it and stopping Garn.
One thing he knew for sure though was Asuna was right. Staring at the 5 boulder-sized cores floating in front of him, he knew they would not produce enough power.
“If Danny uses these cores, along with all of our power combined then maybe…
Danny rubbed his chin in thought before shooting Kazuki down.
“Even with these strange cores and even if everyone was able to combine their magic which I don’t even know how that would work to help me produce lightning but even if that were a thing, it would still not be enough power.”
Asuna and Kimi didn’t understand how Danny could remain so calm and say that their last option was a dead end so nonchalantly. The Danny they knew was more cowardly and frightened. They didn’t know how he had changed so much after death but this attitude and tone came off incredibly cold. This all added to the heightened fear they already had. Asuna still trusted and believed in Kazuki but it was getting harder and harder to hold onto such notions.
“Earlier, you would have been right. Honestly, if this had happened 30 minutes before, even I would have doubted my own words but after bringing these three into the 5th stage, my plan isn’t crackpot. You are right, we don’t have enough magic power between us all but we won’t be using just magic.”
All eyes focused on Kazuki.
“Just as I learned to mimic the wind by our soul connection, just as they had the Ourodyess technique activated inside of them, once more you and I will form a soul connection, Danny.”
The silver orbs in Danny’s eyes began to glow as he pieced everything together.
“By connecting with my soul, I can show you how I use lightning. After that, you plan on using your aura to mimic lightning. You may not have enough magic power but your aura is far greater than those at the 6th stage. It even allowed you to hold out against Etora for a small time frame. With that amount of aura mimicking lightning…this impossibility…becomes possible.”
If Danny had hair and a real body, at this moment it would be standing up as chills would be running down him constantly. Danny was gifted from a young age with his mind but even he was left in awe sometimes by Kazuki’s cleverness. This idea wasn’t just thinking outside of the box, it was well beyond that.
Danny’s metallic lips formed a wide smile.
“Kazuki, this is idea…I don’t know what to say.”
Kazuki shrugged.
“What can I say, sometimes they just come to me, hehe.”
Kazuki and Danny wasted no time. As the Miasma closed in more and more, its complete shape could be seen and it was a mere few hundred miles in diameter now. Although it moved rather slow, that did not mean there was time to fuck around.
Kazuki’s aura entered Danny’s soul world and within a moment’s notice, he was connected to Danny’s soul tree. A moment later, Danny shared both his memories and experience when it came to lightning. How to move it and manipulate it, how to skillfully wield this chaotic and dangerous energy.
Opening their eyes, the two’s minds returned to the real world.
Kazuki was still processing the information and experiences he gained from Danny. Slowly he took in a deep breath before he tested this new trick out.
A small bit of aura began to move in front of him as he pictured the lightning in his mind. Kazuki’s aura began to clash with other parts of his aura in a small zone in front of him. Negative charges slammed into positive charges and the very next moment static began to spark up in front of Kazuki. As he moved his aura faster and faster, these negative and positive charges in the air slammed into one another faster and harder until.
*CRACK BOOOOOOM!*
A bolt of lightning formed and exploded as it struck in the air.
Kazuki felt his heart race as he controlled lightning.
(Such raw power bends to my will. Incredible!)
The moment he thought this, the bolt of lightning he controlled suddenly leaped away and struck Danny’s metal body. Danny was unharmed albeit slightly annoyed.
“Do not become arrogant when you wield such power. Those that lose themselves to such arrogance are the ones who are burnt to a crisp in the end when lightning follows its natural course or something along those lines. Basically, you need to have focus, whether you think it necessary or not, otherwise, things tend to die around you.”
Kazuki kept this in mind. Using his aura, he stretched it out as far as he could within the confined space inside the Miasma dome. Lightning began to snap and crack like a demonic whip and booms and crashes reckoned as far as one could see. Hundreds, thousands upon thousands of bolts of lightning branched out like giant trees.
Danny drew his saber and at the precise moment, he slashed it toward the ever-closing sky and called out to the world as if he was speaking to an old friend.
“Severing Tempest!”
