Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 109
The flow of magical energy moved faster and faster towards the Feya continent. As it did Fera’s power grew at a dangerous rate. The power to decimate not only this world but multiple ones was becoming a reality. This power over the cosmos though was not set for a single pair of hands.
As Fera’s power exploded upward at an unnatural rate, Kazuki as well was evolving into something beyond the limits of a human being. Arguably he could have been said to have done that long ago but this was something even more than that.
The spinning void within Kazuki had grown several times over and now covered a fifth of his entire soul tree. This in itself was unfathomable but that only told a part of the story. As Kazuki devoured more and more energy from the outside world, his body was growing faster and faster. A power he had never felt before surged through him like electricity as his body was made anew.
The Orichalcum Kazuki had so desperately used so many times before, compared to his ever-growing body would now be considered a frail material. His flesh was stronger than god metal and bones even more so. His blood was like a vital essence of life. With it, it could be a poison or a cure depending on how he used it. His senses had entered a whole new level. He could smell half a continent away if need be and his eyes could now peer through the solid ground and he could see the depths of the world as if it were directly in front of him.
Kazuki could sense a great difference in the magical energy around him compared to Fera. Fera was absorbing more than 80% of all the magic flowing forth while he was only receiving 20 but Kazuki was not one to sit by and do nothing.
All of the magic that was flowing through here could not simply come straight to Fera and Kazuki as Detras domain of space was still set. Though as Fera grew strogner, this domain was becoming less and less effective but for now, all of the energy that came here could only come through the small opening Zephris had left in the sky. It was the only opening in Detra’s domain.
Detra allowed Zephris to make this opening but made sure that Fera had to struggle to use her power over space in this place. Because of this, the flow of magical energy from across the world was all funneling through a small bottleneck.
Kazuki moved to the edge of Detra’s domain and grabbed at the veil of space holding him and Fera in this place. His aura moved like lightning and with a thought, the severing tempest was unleashed through his aura.
His energy at first could not cut through Detra’s as she was much stronger than he but as he took in more and more power, his strength only grew. He tried once more and left a small scar across this space domain before the place he cut at, repaired itself in no time.
(Again!)
His aura sliced out faster and faster. One strike became two and then hundred and then a thousand. A thousand severing tempests and he was able to sever some of Detra’s energy, opening a hole in her domain. With it, the power from the outside world flowed through and since he was directly in front of this hole, the power went directly into his spinning void, growing his strength even faster.
Because of this, his severing tempest became stronger and instead of a thousand cuts to break through Detra’s domain, it became 999 and then 870, 665, and then several hundred before being reduced to several dozen. With this, he opened the hole in her domain further and further until it was much larger than the spot Zephris had made. Kazuki went from gathering 20% of all the energy available to a complete flip and was now taking the 80 with Fera receiving the remaining 20.
This though didn’t last long because by this time, most of the energy had been absorbed by both of them and now only small bits of it were scattered around the globe.
It would take some time before the world was fully replenished of its energy. Fera had taken in as much energy as she could but her core was nowhere near filled. She already knew the reason why.
(Kazuki!)
Fera inhaled deeply through her nose as she got a taste of her newfound power. Even though her core was not filled with energy, her body had already changed and almost anticlimactically she entered a new stage.
She gripped her empty hand into a fist and a loud explosion rang out as the air in her hand had no time to move out of the way and was crushed instantly. Feeling the flow of energy in her body, it was so destructive and chaotic she now understood something fundamental about the universe. She could feel a small restriction on her new body, it was something invisible and almost instinctual. A natural universal law.
(Is this why gods do not come down here, their bodies are restricted in some ways. I can feel a small restriction on me right now, on a god it must be even worse.)
Fera couldn’t help but look up at the dark sky at this moment. Zephris’s lingering power was still around darkening this place making it mimic the night. She had purposefully not absorbed Zephris’s energy because it was like poison, now though she understood, this energy could no longer do her any harm. Fera looked at the magic ring on her finger and now felt it was holding her back slightly. With a simple thought, the ring around her finger shattered and became dust.
She could now use magic without a tool. Once more she looked at the sky. Her eyes began to glow with purple light and the invisible domain blocking her power over space began to buckle and warp. Fera increased her power and concentration and finally the domain cracked and then shattered as if it were glass.
At the same time, A new black hole opened up and sucked away the remaining darkness Zephris had left behind and the black sky had now become day once again.
“Much better.”
Fers stared through the atmosphere and looked into the depth of space, stars reflected in the windows to her soul leaving specks of silver in her eyes.
“So this is what the lower realm truly is…A…prison.”
Fera finally turned to Kazuki. The amount of disappointment and anger she felt seeing him. At the same time, there was a silver lining causing her disappointment to melt away.
“Funny, is it not. All of your struggle, all of that pain. In the end, I could even feel you taking most of the magical energy in the world but look at you. You are still stuck at the convergence stage. It makes sense. In order to break free from the shackles of the lower realm, one must absorb an ungodly amount of souls but when you took in Zephris, he had already destroyed most of the souls within him in order to regain himself. I, on the other hand, am no longer bound to this place. Not to this continent, not to this world, and not to this small realm. I have reached the apex and have achieved a level of freedom most creatures will never understand nor experience. I did this, I am free, and yet why…why is it that seeing your face still makes my chest burn. You who should have died in your mother’s womb, you who should never have taken your first breath, and yet here you still stand, breathing my air.”
Fera reached out at the empty air, the power of space contorting and folding under her grasp. She squeezed at the empty air and tried to crush Kazuki once and for all but the moment her space gripped around Kazuki, Kazuki felt only a slight pressure around him, a slight restriction. He began to lift his arm under this pressure.
Fera was confused.
“You…You can still resist.”
She didn’t hold anything back this time. She used all of her power over space, causing a large black hole to form in front of Kazuki. Kazuki’s body was slowly starting to be pulled forward. His arms raised a little faster under this pressure until they were out beside him. His ki circulated through his arms, his hands slammed together in an instant and with a single clap, the world shook.
His body was now something beyond his own limits. The strength and power of this clap sent a force out into the world that was so great that the black hole in front of him was crushed. After that, shockwaves spread across the world and threatened to destroy the planet. If not for Detra blocking this shockwave, the world may have really been destroyed at this moment.
Kazuki smiled before looking at Fera.
“Earlier you called the Lower Realm a prison.”
Kazuki looked around, he too now seeing untold truths running through the stars before shaking his head.
“The Lower Realm is not a prison, instead, this place is a playground.”
