Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 122
“Detra! What happened, what was that light!?”
Danny called out to Detra, his mind swirled with questions and theories, and just didn’t understand what he had just witnessed.
Detra, along with Zephris and her sons came down to the ground. The moment they touched down, everyone but Danny backed away. These people were still fearful of Zetrazz and Torzz from when the two did battle and these survivors were stuck in the mountain base. Just being in their presence brought tremendous fear and an unknown pressure.
King Brian as well understood that Detra and Zephris were on their side and were stronger than both Zetrazz and Torzz. Logic told him he was safe but instincts told him a completely different story. He along with the others took a few steps back.
Shaila who was always the curious one backed away but she didn’t look away. Even if staring meant death, she couldn’t help but wonder about these powerful beings that stood at the top of the food chain. Tozu and Sasai were not as brave and promptly turned away.
Shin though was both afraid and unafraid and was about to take a step forward and speak but he suddenly felt a painfully tight grip around his wrist. Triska had grabbed him before shaking her head.
“Don’t!”
…
Detra appeared in front of Danny and shook her head.
“Someone took the both of them, there was nothing I could do.”
As soon as she said these words a wave of dread spread like a heavy fog among everyone. It was with these words though that Shin, Danny, Kimi, Sam, and Zephris all recalled a memory. Each one of them had seen Kazuki’s memories, some more than others but they all recalled a traumatic one that left a scar in Kazuki. The day his brother died right in front of him.
That day was a horrendous nightmare of betrayal and loss. The thing that stuck out to all of them was the golden light that teleported Kazuki away to Earth, saving his life in the process. This light seemed to be exactly the same as the one that had just shot down and surrounded both Kazuki and Fera’s soul before taking them off to who knows where.
Realizing this, Danny asked.
“That power, was that a god’s energy?”
Detra nodded.
“I don’t know who or why a god interfered in a Lower Realm but that energy no doubt belonged to one. At the same time, I felt no ill intent in from that power. Wherever Kazuki and Fera are, I don’t believe they are in danger but this is only a guess.”
Hearing that it was a god that took Kazuki Torzz felt relieved. Now he was free of Fera and free of Kazuki’s rules. His energy began to rise slowly as he stared at the humans before him. Before he could do anything though Zephris released his aura and suppressed him.
“Torzz, Kazuki may have left but that doesn’t mean you get to do whatever the fuck you want. Quite the opposite actually. If he’s not here, there’s no one to stop me from killing you.”
Torzz scowled before releasing his own aura.
“You think you can stop me. I
Before he could finish his sentence, the power of space surrounded not only him but Zephris as well. Detra looked down at the two of them and spoke directly into their minds.
(Have the two of you really forgotten. If Kazuki is not here, It is I who holds the most power. I may have changed my mind about the world but Son, you are still not to make a move against the humans, otherwise, I will be the one who punishes you.)
Detra then glared at Zephris and warned him.
(You may have a grudge with my son but as long as I exist you will not lay a hand on him. If you can’t abide by this simple thing, then just like Fera, I’ll send your ass to the far reaches of space and trap you in a void of darkness you can never escape from. Do you understand me Zephris?)
Zephris stared at Detra his thoughts his own. After a moment though he lowered his power and noded.
Torzz though didn’t understand.
“Mother, why are you stopping me. You never cared about these ants before. Why protect them?”
Detra looked over the crowd and saw there was no reason to hide anything and just came out with it.
“Are you really so foolish? Do you wish for death so badly because this is the path you are walking? You think Kazuki is lost or that he won’t return? A god took him away but why? Have you really not thought about this? A god can not simply bring a human to a higher realm yet this god was able to bring not only Kazuki but Fera as well. The only way to bring someone from a Lower Realm to a higher one, the person either has to be a Demigod or they have to have something that’s capable of protecting them from the summons. Fera may no longer have a body but she is still a Demigod so she would be fine but what about Kazuki. His body is incredibly tough but he has no protection or does he?”
Detra opened her hand and revealed a black compass, it was of course Fera’s. The moment she and Kazuki were taken, this was the only thing that remained behind.
“Kazuki has that golden compass. It is a special magic tool that even I with all of my magic can not see through its mysteries. One thing for certain though is that within that compass of his, a bit of godly aura resides within. Not just any god’s aura though, if you have good enough senses you’d be able to see that the godly aura coming from Kazuki’s compass feels somewhat similar to his own.”
Once again memories were recalled. Both Danny and Zephris had seen all of Kazuki’s memories clearly and one of them involved the human-faced bug-like creature called Retsu Gai. When Kazuki was about to be killed by Retsu Gai, Retsu Gai detected the godly aura seeping from Kazuki’s compass and he told Kazuki that it was most likely a god and a relative at that whose aura this belonged to. Later on even Zetrazz told Kazuki something similar.
Danny quickly realized what this meant.
“So he was taken away by a relative.”
Once more everyone was taken aback hearing this information but especially Torzz.
(If it was a relative and not an enemy does that not mean that Kazuki will at some point return. If I kill these worms, I will have broken the agreement he and mother came to and he will destroy me.)
Torzz felt a chill run through him and he quickly pulled all of his power back. Detra was glad her son got the message but she decided to add on the pressure just so he wouldn’t get any strange ideas.
“Kazuki’s relative is a god but only now took him to a Higher Realm, why do you think that may be? In my opinion, whoever took him away now sees him as worthy. This may mean that they have decided to finally accept him as a true family member and he will now have a backing. This may also be why they took Fera as well and prevented him from killing her. Fera’s background also has many gods. If they wish to broker peace, they may have taken her away with her soul intact so they could return her to her family. In this way, they would pay a hefty compensation since she no longer has a body but since her soul is intact, things could still be settled without fighting.”
Danny nodded along.
“This makes sense. All this time while Kazuki was fighting with his life on the line, that god whoever they may be was watching this entire time. The entire time Kazuki was fighting desperately, the many times he was on death’s door yet that god never interfered and clearly was willing to let Kazuki die. However, when he finally gained the upper hand, his abilities matched and then even exceeded nearly all of Fera’s. The only thing he couldn’t match her with was his power over space and his soul was weaker but with Kazuki’s unnatural growth, he would have surpassed Fera shortly. Once he cornered Fera and our plan came together, Fera could no longer win. Whatever god was witnessing this must have come to the conclusion that Kazuki was an unparalleled talent. They watched him all this time and against all odds, Kazuki crawled out of the lowest of lows and managed to take on a Demigod, and not only did he do that but he did it while still being in the 7th stage. Seeing Kazuki’s development and growth and then him taking on Fera, he must have been recognized as a genius and so they finally brought him to their side.”
Zephris nodded.
“That or he simply became something they could no longer ignore. At the rate, he was going, no doubt he would reach a level that ignoring him would probably cause more harm than good, especially when he gets to a level where he can seek out his origins unimpeded. Bring him in now before he builds resentment to this unknown family who seemingly abandoned him.”
Zephris’s words left a lingering pressure in the air. Not that he was personally pressuring them
but rather the thought of having a pissed-off Kazuki coming to look for you. A relentless being that even when faced with death multiple times would not die, refused to. A person that came back again and again and never stopped and only grew. Such a person could only induce nightmares for his enemies.
