Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 38
With the last of his will, with the last of his rage, he fused the forces of darkness, space, and his soul. As these three forces came together, his intent was to explode outward in every direction, and using the power of space he would send his crushing soul along with darkness to cover every expert here, including the mysterious woman. With such power, he planned to destroy all of them in one go.
This was his final intent but this was not how things played out. Just as the three energies came together, just as they began to become one, something Zephris did not expect happened. The blood coursing through his body, the Azirian like blood was pulled into the mix. Zephris had not done this intentionally nor did he even know he was capable of fusing more than three energies but his thoughts on the matter did in fact not matter as the four energies suddenly combined.
*Psssssshhhhhh*
Zephris skin melted and sank into his body revealing muscle fibers and nerves. Everyone watching was horrified by this sight. They all couldn’t help but take a step or two back as his body continued to fall apart. His muscles caved in and tore. His nerves split like thinning hair and his bones melted. All the while, his blood transformed. It went from a bright red to a purplish-black before it covered his entire body.
The very next moment, his body was absorbed entirely into his blood and his blood itself became Miasma.
The mysterious woman watching this found this all to be very interesting and at first, she wanted to take a closer look but the moment Zephris transformed into Miasma, her body froze and her instincts roared at her with warning bells.
(Something is telling me not to get close. Am I…Is this fear? NO! I do not get afraid, I cannot be afraid.)
Even though she thought this, she still did not go closer.
At the same time, the experts watching were beyond confused. The enemy of them all, suddenly melted and burst into a purplish-black mist. They could no longer sense Zephris’s power nor any power coming from the miasma which only confused them even more. How can an object such as this exist, floating in front of them, yet they sense no magic energy coming from it whatsoever?
The experts did not understand the current situation and wondered if they had won. There was no longer an enemy to fight so where do they go from here.
Many shared the exact same thought. Zephris was no longer alive and what remained was a simple mist.
Suddenly, thousands of eyes peered down at the metal city below and greed began to overtake them. Not only was the entire city made from god metal, a treasure of untold applications but the city itself was Zephris’s home base. The number of creations and experiments he had worked on. Just a single one could overturn the world and be worth several kingdoms worth of treasure and beyond.
If just one of those was taken back to these experts’ respective clans and kingdoms. It would bring ultimate fame, prestige, and endless wealth. It could literally change the power dynamic on the entire Feya continent.
The experts slowly came to a realization, if such treasures were down below, how many could there actually be. There was no way everyone could receive one. If this were the case, that meant that everyone here was simply competition.
Some realized this sooner than others and without hesitation, they flew down towards the metal city. As soon as a few made their move, it was like a beehive had gone mad and most of them rushed down below.
*BAM BANG BAM*
After a few blows, the city was pried open like a can of food, and expert after expert began to flood in. The Adrola apes could do nothing against so many experts and the one who led them told them to not make a move and to retreat. Even without fighting back, many apes were still slaughtered simply for being associated with Zephris. Not only them but all of Zephris’s relatives as well.
Now that Zephris was no more, many people had grievances with these relatives. They lived and acted like royalty throughout the continent. Power and wealth had gone to their head. They had personally harmed too many people to count and because Zephris was their family, none could be touched before. Now though, it was different. These relatives of Zephris were dragged out into the street one by one and in anger, they were all slain like dogs.
His mother, his sister, his father, along with everyone else who was related to him. None were let off, even if they had nothing to do with the other’s behavior and nasty reputations. It didn’t matter, they were related to thee Zephris and for that alone, they no longer had a place in this world.
Ransacking Zephris’s workshop, everything was looted. thousands of Mind Freys, several inventions, potions, and elixirs, and an amount of gold and precious gems and other materials that could be piled higher than any mountain in the world.
As all of these treasures were collected, something strange was taking place in the sky above.
The fused Azirian giant was moving chaotically. It was swinging and throwing its body in every direction and looked as if it was falling apart while at the same time putting itself back together.
The mysterious woman theorized.
“Without Zephris to control them through his soul link, the creature doesn’t know what to do. It is made of hundreds of thousands of Azirian’s and it seems they are fighting one another for control. Why don’t you test that tool and see what it’s like to move a monster.”
Torzz looked at the crown in front of him and hesitated. He literally just witnessed, Zephris become Miasma because this magic tool was tampered with.
“Don’t tell me, are you afraid.”
“Of course not. I afraid of a mortals magitech, your words are sour upon my ears.”
The woman smiled fiendishly. Were she not so beautiful, it would be a terrifying sight to behold but at the same time, because of this beauty, her evil smile made her look insane.
“If you aren’t afraid then try it on.”
Torzz still hesitated and then the woman snatched the crown away from him. A bright light extended from her index finger as she carved a new inscription on it as well as changed a few more. Once done, she placed the crown atop her head. It was slightly too big for her and slid down a tiny bit but she didn’t care. With a single thought, she commanded the Azirian’s.
(Stop!)
Across the battlefield, the Giant Aziran suddenly came to a complete stop. Not just it’s wild swinging limbs but even the wings keeping it in the air stopped flapping and it plummeted down toward the ground.
(Hmm, move)
The woman realized she had to picture the orders a bit differently and had to be very specific on a few things. With the new order, the giant flew back into the air and simply maintained flight.
She then took the crown back off and tossed it back to Torzz.
“Here you see, It works properly.”
Torzz looked at it.
“Why would you not want such a treasure. Zephris may have been a bastard but this device can continue to improve one’s strength and soul. If one wore this for a certain amount of time, they would become a god, so how can you so easily give it away to me? That makes it very suspicious right?”
The woman shook her head.
“I changed that function. Now when a unique soul fragment forms, I simply send it away out into the world. Had Zephris not been greedy for power. He too could have sent the unique soul fragments away but instead, he wanted to erase what was inside of them and then absorb them for more power. Now he is no more, heh. At the same time, if I were to absorb these soul fragments, my power would become too much for this lower realm and I would be kicked out or worse yet, my body would not be able to handle it and It would be destroyed. Making a new body is not something anyone can do. I just got here, it would be a waste to have to leave so soon. So it’s not that big of a deal. Take control of the Giant and have it serve under you. It will be an extra tool so to speak.”
As this woman said all of this, the giant had once again gone out of control. Not just the Azirian though, Torzz noticed the Miasma was moving around as well. The moment he used the crown, he was surprised to find that the Miasma fell under his control as well.
(Hmm, the Miasma is connected to this crown as well? So I can move it as well?)
With a thought, Torzz made the Miasma move and the giant moved as well. After a few seconds though it was easier for him to handle and he managed to move the giant and the Miasma separately. Some of the experts in the sky were paying attention to those down below ransacking the city and others were still focusing on the giant monster. None were even thinking about the Miasma. One such expert was looking down below and had gotten a bit too close to the Miasma when Torzz coincidently moved it as he was testing it out.
The moment the Miasma came into contact with the expert, it was like a dormant beast had smelled freshly spilled blood and had awoken.
