Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 39

*AHHHHHHHHHHHH!*

A blood curdling screamed rippled out the moment the Miasma came into contact with this nearby expert. All heads turned in time to see the expert being completely surrounded by the cloud of Miasma and the very next they could see and hear the expert melting from head to toe.

The expert tried to flee, fly away, and out of the Miasma but the purplish-black power had him. In a mere few seconds the creature was reduced to nothing and if that wasn’t alarming enough, the small amount of Miasma, the moment it devoured the expert, it suddenly expanded and grew.

While everyone was shocked by this new development, the Miasma did not wait around for their reactions. It had just tasted fresh blood and it was far from satiated. Immediately it floated toward another expert but to everyone’s confusion, the Miasma moved relatively slow.

These powerful creatures didn’t know what this odd Miasma was but the fact that it used to be Zephris followed by it attacking one of their allies, didn’t matter. In everyone’s eyes, it was now marked for destruction. Several experts raised their hands and fired out powerful magic. Beams of intense light, and tidal waves of water. Lightning, fire, and so on.

What happened next, again left them baffled. Instead of their magic completely reducing this mist-like substance to nothing, the Miasma took all of the power into itself and ate it.

The Miasma that had only been about the size of half a person half a second ago, grew to be more than a hundred feet in diameter. Not only did it suddenly grow, but it also continued to move seemingly randomly towards other victims.

Another expert felt something was off and shouted.

“This thing is weird, don’t carelessly fire your magic. Draw a weapon and strike!”

A large red battle-ax in hand, this expert charged forward and sliced into the Miasma. The moment his ax touched the Miasma though, just like before, the Miasma began to melt things. The expert quickly pulled backward in retreat and nearly half of his ax was melted down.

His eyes widened in shock.

(My ax is made from some of the best and toughest material in the world yet, this spray of air destroyed it in barely a second.)

As the expert was lost in thought, the ax in his hand continued to melt away. There was a tiny bit of Miasma still on the handle and it the expert was careless. A small amount fell on his hand and immediately he felt a searing pain as his hand was falling apart. Not only was the man shocked by this but also the miasma that ate away at his hand was starting to grow as well.

The man knew he had little time and needed to act, so without thought, he grabbed at his upper arm, and with a bit of strength, he tore his own arm off and tossed it away like garbage.

All who saw this were shocked by his insane action. Even if the Miasma was dangerous to just rip your own arm off, wasn’t he being too cautious they thought.

Torzz and the mysterious woman watching found this to be an odd sight.

“Torzz, what did you do?”

“It wasn’t me. That black stuff is difficult to control. I have to concentrate to keep it in check. Not only that, for it to grow like that, isn’t this far more advanced than what we thought.”

The woman nodded along.

“I thought that purple Miasma was simply dead energy. Even now I can’t since any magic coming from it but if the crown can control it, that must mean there is some magic to it. This has become slightly more interesting. I’ve changed my mind, give me the crown.”

Torzz gripped the crown tightly but after a glare from the woman, he finally relented.

“Don’t worry little Titan, as soon as I grow bored, you can take this magic tool back and play with the giant azirian and the black mist all you want. For now, though, I want to see what this stuff is capable of.”

The crown slipped onto the woman’s head and with a bit of concentration, she took control of the Miasma. As long as she focused enough, she found that she could control both the Miasma as well as the fused Azirian separately.

With a thought, she moved the Miasma, this time, however, the speed was far greater than before. Even though she increased its speed though, the experts became a little more cautious after one of their own tore off his own arm. They avoided the strange Miasma as if it were the plague.

The woman grew annoyed by this so she increased the Miasma’s speed further. She quickly found a problem. The faster she made it move, the more it would shrink.

(Hmm, is it absorbing the energy from its surroundings. The faster It moves the faster it runs through energy. At this rate, though it will dissolve before I get a chance to actually test it out.)

Extending a finger, the woman fired a beam of light at the Miasma.

*PSHOOON*

This beam of light ripped through the air and straight through a few unlucky people who were in the way. They had been caught fully unaware and died before they even knew what hit them. The beam of light continued forward and hit the Miasma squarely in its center.

(Grow!)

The Miasma doubled and then tripled. It expanded again and again at a rapid rate in a near-instant. Before anyone could blink it was already the size of a fairly large hill.

Many of the experts saw the direction the beam of light came from and grew enraged. A few didn’t know who the mysterious woman was but they could sense right away that she was not a Titan. A few of them decided to confront her but she simply waved a hand.

The moment she did this, a dome of golden light formed around not only the city but all of the experts as well. Their anger rose to another level and they tried to destroy her barrier so they could go kill her but they found out right away that that was not happening.

*BAM BAM BOOM CRACK BOOOOOOOM!*

They used powerful magic that could crack the continent on this barrier but to their shock, they left not even a scratch.

“WOMAN WHO ARE YOU!? WHAT ANIMOSITY DO WE HOLD BETWEEN US FOR YOU TO DO THIS!?”

Shaking her head, she smiled viciously.

“How can there be animosity between ants and a god?.”

“OUTRAGEOUS! YOU…YOU VILE WOMAN! YOU THINK WE ARE ANTS! JUST WAIT UNTIL WE ESCAPE FROM HERE! ONLY YOUR SLAUGHTER AWAITS YOU!”

Immediately after these words fell, many of these experts tried to teleport away but once more the woman waved a hand. The golden barrier took on a purple hue and their space magic was rendered useless. Once they saw this, a bit of fear began to set in. This woman was strong enough to set not just one barrier around all of them but two, when these experts had to combine forces just to create one earlier.

Not only that but her second barrier was made from the element of space. Out of all of the elements to control both Space and Time were considered the most difficult to use and master, yet this woman formed an entire barrier to block all of them from teleporting away. They quickly realized that this woman was not just talking shit. Even if she were not a god, she had more than enough power to hold all of them in the palm of her hand and make them dance.

The tone of many of these experts quickly changed and they asked.

“What…what are you going to do to us?”

The woman shrugged.

“Me…I will do nothing more than watch. That thing though, well you saw what it did moments ago but I feel like it could do more. I wish to see what it can do. All of you shall fight it and I will watch here on the side. If you defeat it, I’ll let you all out and I’ll even give you a reward if you’re successful. However, if you fail…”

Once again the woman smiled like a demon. This evil-like sile, combined with her god-like beauty, caused her to look completely insane.

The experts quickly tried to protest but the woman sealed the dome so that no sound escaped before waving her hand.

“Let the game begin!”

Taking control of the Miasma, it was now as big as a hill. With a thought, it moved at an unnatural speed, completely different from before. This speed was not something most could escape dodge and the Miasma swiftly surrounded several people and without fail, screams echoed out inside the dome of light as they melted away and were devoured in quick succession.

It was this day that would forever change the balance of power over the Feya continent. It was this day, that a slaughter befitting the worst of all nightmares took place.
