Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 43

Zephris watched Danny with great interest. As Danny’s lightning cage destroyed more and more of the Miasma, Zephris wondered just how far these mortals could make it. His thoughts came to here before he could no longer defend himself against the other maddening voices and his mind and soul scattered.

By the time his mind and soul reformed, he could see Danny struggling. The cage of lightning had shrunk substantially.

(Is this how far these people can go. Will it end already? Damn, I wanted to see more.)

As the cage shrunk more and more, it seemed as if Kazuki and the others would soon die.

(Just like every creature that came before them, death unfortunately is the only thing that awaits any who enters this cursed body.)

Zephris then sensed the elements of space and aura coming together or rather he could feel aura and something that felt like the element of space but somehow it was different.

He focused in on the source and saw Kazuki was attempting something.

(Just what is that one trying to…)

*SHINE*

The element of space glowed with purple light and wrapped around everyone within the cage of lightning except for Kazuki. The very next moment, everyone besides Kazuki was teleported outside of the Miasma.

(What was that? That mortal did something with his aura and changed it into…Into the element of space!? Something like that was possible?)

Following that, Kazuki brought one surprise after another. Zephris fully expected the cage of lightning to fail and for Kazuki to immediately succumb to the Miasma but to his shock, Kazuki was able to maintain the cage of lightning.

(This young mortal knows how to control the cage as well. Not just the dragon and not just the golem but this mortal knows how to destroy the Miasma.)

Once more, Zephris’s mind and soul could not last and he was scattered.

Reforming, he thought there was no possible way that Kazuki could keep the cage going forever and sure enough when his senses returned, the cage was no more and Kazuki was fully exposed to the Miasma, yet he was not dying right away. Instead, Kazuki was devouring some of the Miasma and healing rapidly. Slowly but surely though, Kazuki was being eaten away.

(This boy has a connection to both the dragon and the golem. If he knows them, could he possibly receive their favor? If only I could communicate with him. If only I could stop his body from being destroyed, maybe there would be a way.)

Zephris tried to tap into his power. He could feel a small amount of space element starting to gather.

(If this boy really does have a connection with the dragon, maybe I ca

Once again he was scattered.

When he reformed, he had absolutely no hope that Kazuki had survived but to his shock and awe, Kazuki was barely alive. He was barely a torso and a head and he was on the verge of death but a fire of will burned in his eyes.

He could feel Kazuki was trying to escape with everything he had.

(I may not be able to gather enough power but if I add what I have to his, he might just be able to escape this place.)

Zephris could only gather a tiny bit of space element. Just as Kazuki was about to be fully destroyed, he sent his small power to Kazuki. Kazuki as well tried to teleport but the moment the power was gathered, the Gosechu box nearby stole all of the space element between them and activated. As the box opened and pulsed with power, a tether of light shot into the Miasma as well as into Kazuki’s forehead at the exact same moment.

Kazuki’s mind was filled with Zephris’s past. Every memory, every experience, Kazuki took them all in. It was as if everything that Zephris had ever gone through it was instead he that went through it all. All of the pain and misery, all of the unfortunate events. the good the bad, everything.

At the exact same time, Zephris saw it all. Every single memory and experience of Kazuki’s as if they were his own. The sadness, the sorrow, the kindness, and love. Zephris watched with intrigue as he witnessed who Kazuki’s adoptive mother and sister were. At first, he held absolute rage for Kazuki but as the memories played out and he saw the woman he loved like a true mother betray both he and his older brother, Zephris’s rage dissipated and instead was replaced with pity.

Going through the memories, he learned that the power Glacious, the golem, and Kazuki all showed was actually something they learned from Kazuki’s brother Kai. Not only that, it was confirmed that Kazuki had a relationship with Glacious a close one at that. Not just Glacious but also a somewhat neutral relationship with the Titan Zetrazz. The more Zephris saw, the more excited he grew.

(This mortal, was he sent down from the heavens for me. I must save him no matter what. This mortal is my only chance, my only hope of reclaiming myself.)

After witnessing all of this, the light from the Gosechu box began to fade and Zephris knew what would happen the moment the light was no more.

(All of these memories have passed onto us but the moment the Gosechu box is done, my Miasma will finish Kazuki. I have to…I have to talk with him.)

Zephris gathered a small amount of his power and without hesitation, he injected a piece of his soul directly into Kazuki’s soul world.

Kazuki as well was already inside his own soul world. The moment the two saw one another it was almost like they had seen old acquaintances or old enemies.

“Zephris.”

Zephris nodded.

“You’ve witnessed my memories, you know why I’ve come right?”

“You wish to save me now, so you can use me later. Seeing your memories, I can’t believe that my mother was the cause of all of this. To think she was that powerful. To think that Fera and Torzz are trying to kill everyone so that she can ascend to a higher realm and so that he can have peace and quiet. They did all of this for such selfish reasons.”

Zephris gave a nod.

“Since you know, there’s not much else for me to say right now. I want you to live so that I can escape my hell. Not only that but it seems our goals align. Just as you wish to kill your mother and your sister, I wish to kill your mother and Torzz. So what say you Kazuki, get used and live or die without getting the revenge you seek?”

Kazuki glared at Zephris. By all accounts, Zephris also held a large portion of fault. If not for his greedy ways, he would not have gone down the road he went and he would not have been in a position to become the monster that he is today. At the same time, there was no way to voice such things at this moment. Kazuki had fought for so long and struggled time and time again. He did not wish to die, not here and not now.

(So what if I get used later on. If it means I can live just a little while longer if it means I have another opportunity to slay my enemies then so be it.)

“What do I have to do?”

Hearing these words, Zephris felt a chill in his soul.

“Simple. Let me fuse with your soul tree here. Once I am a part of you, the Miasma will no longer attack you and will see you as a part of it. The body will not attack other parts of the body or something along those lines.”

There was nothing more to say. With a nod, Kazuki gave Zephris permission, and without hesitation, Zephris dove into Kazuki’s soul tree. The moment Zephris entered, Kazuki could feel his mind starting to split along with debilitating pain in his soul. Were Zephris’s full form to join with Kauzki’s soul, Kauzki’s soul would be taken over completely and he would be no more. However, because Zephris only used a soul fragment, the most Kazuki received was some pain.

Not even a second later, the light from the Gosechu box faded entirely and Kazuki was once again exposed to the Miasma. Admittedly, Kazuki felt intense fear the moment he was left out in the open fully exposed like a newborn to the Miasma but not a second later he could feel his body regenerating rapidly.

(I’m no longer being attacked.)

Very quickly both of Kazuki’s eyes regenerated. Opening them, he could see once more. The Miasma that was constantly melting him down to nothing, now it was flowing around him like a stream of water.

In less than a minute, Kazuki’s entire body had regenerated and healed. Looking at his hand, Kazuki gripped a fist. Feeling his hand once again, Kazuki was filled with joy. Just as he was bathing in euphoria, Zephris called out in his mind.

(You must leave right now!)

Kazuki didn’t question Zephris as he felt the urgency coming from him. Without magic and with his aura nearly depleted, Kazuki could only rely on his own physicality. Running forward, he kicked off the ground and covered hundreds of miles with each leap. No longer having to worry about the Miasma, Kazuki broke through the darkness and escaped into the light of day.

(Finally, I’m out!)
