Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 50
While the two brothers clashed nonstop, down in the mountain base, King Brian’s mind churned constantly. His finger tapping the table in thought, ideas appearing one after another. At the same time, the throne room and the rest of the base itself were in a state of chaos as people panicked and argued like there was no tomorrow. Well in fact in most of their minds there was no tomorrow, no hope, and no way out.
“I say we rush out and divide ourselves, splitting off we race into the distance in every different direction to try and escape. If we do it like that, some of us may survive, well the strongest surely.”
Triska said this matter of factly. She disregarded everyone that was weaker than her. Knowing her own strength she was confident she could escape. As long as she avoided the two Titans clashing she could deal with both the lightning and tornadoes as she controlled both. Not only her but Shin could as well. Out of everyone in the world she only had a love for two people. One was her sister who was tucked safely away in Gentis city, the other was Shin.
As long as the two of them made it out, she didn’t really care about anything else. She looked over at Shin expecting him to back her up but Shin shook his head.
“Triska, it won’t work. You and I could possibly escape, along with Shaila, Sasai and Tozu but what about my friends. I won’t abandon them.”
Triska walked over and whispered.
“Shin we can escape, we can leave here and never look back. Can’t you make new frien…
Triska spoke up to here before Shin glared at her.
“Don’t finish that sentence!”
Triska was not one easily intimidated but seeing the look in Shin’s eyes and hearing the tone of his voice, the words she had were swallowed back down and she nearly choked.
Shin wrapped his arms around Triska and whispered.
“You should know by now, my friends, I can not just leave them. Even if they left me, I could never do the same. Besides if we really ran away how could you ever look at me the same? In your eye, a woman who values strength would I not be considered cowardly at that point?”
Triska went silent. She couldn’t argue. At the same time, everyone had eyed them and was wondering what was going on with the whispering. Kimi rolled her eyes.
“Nows not the time for the lovey-dovey crap. If you got time for that then do something useful and come up with a plan.”
Shin smiled before saying.
“Kimi have you even ever had a plan before? No wait you have, the best idea you ever came up with was riding Sam’s hammer.”
Kimi’s face became red. Whether due to anger or embarrassment or both who knew. Both she and Sam stood up and things were about to boil over before Asuna stepped in.
“All of you stop it! This shit isn’t helpful. Stop with the insults and bickering and let’s think…Please!”
At first, they were still going to argue but the way Asuna’s voice dropped and was filled with obvious sadness, everyone cooled off and felt a slight sense of guilt.
Silence filled the room, even Nunully stopped crying as she tried to stay strong. As everyone sat around trying to think Shaila looked at King Brian and asked.
“Can we not teleport everyone to safety? Surely this base’s magic gates can be operated right?”
King Brian shook his head.
“No, the base has taken far too much damage from the giant Azirian’s and too many of the magic inscriptions have been damaged.”
“Can we not simply repair them?”
Again King Brian shook his head.
“It’s not just a matter of repairing one or two but hundreds of thousands. Not only would that take weeks with hundreds of expert Mages working nonstop but repairing isn’t the only problem. Inscriptions for teleporting are far more complex than single layering the ancient language. These inscriptions fall atop one another and link together like chains. One connection is not one connection but instead hundreds and thousands. One inscription could be layered atop dozens or possibly even hundreds or thousands of other inscriptions. Once one is damaged, it means the others have been affected as well. Even if it is unseen to the eye one can sense it with magic and so fixing becomes that much more difficult. You have to erase the broken ones along with the others it’s layered with and then those affect what’s around them. The whole thing is one large headache. So like I said, it would take weeks and that’s only if we actually had the Mages to do it. Currently, as you can see we definitely do not.”
Nunully also found a problem no one mentioned.
“Not to mention to power it would be difficult, seeing as how the barrier is draining all of our power. Soon it will collapse and…and.”
Nunully couldn’t finish her words as they would only mention their soon to be deaths.
Once again everyone became quiet and a gloomy atmosphere took hold.
Kimi began to roll her shoulder around. The new arm she had received from Kazuki was a perfect fit but she was unused to its weight. It weighed very little compared to her strength, after all, she was now at the 5th stage but even a small amount of weight felt odd when one was not used to carrying it for long periods.
Asuna saw her do this and something struck her. She looked at the armor she was wearing, the same armor Kazuki had given her made of god metal. She remembered Kazuki mentioning how efficient it was with magic. Something akin to a hundred times more or so.
“Danny, this god metal, can it be used to transfer energy?”
Danny thought for a moment before shaking his head.
“I know where you’re going with this. You wish to use the armors efficiency to transfer magic into it and then power a teleportation inscription. Unfortunately, that would require new inscriptions that the armor you possess does not currently have.”
Asuna fell quiet once more, her and others around her losing more hope. Danny though began to run through things in his own mind before saying.
“This line of thinking though is very interesting. The efficiency of god metal is truly astonishing and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier but you won’t need the armor for this as I can transfer said energy. Nearly my entire body is made from god metal and it is powered by a Magic core. I can naturally draw magic form my environment, that comes into my core and when I use magic I can use my body as a medium.”
Everyone stared blankly at Danny. A few of them got it but most didn’t and Danny could see it so he continued.
“What I mean to say is that as long as you give me enough energy, I can power a teleportation gate. I realize this though doesn’t help since the inscriptions in the base are damaged. I probably shouldn’t have even mentioned it and given a false sense of hope, sorry.”
When Danny first arrived back at the base and everyone found out he was alive, they were both shocked and filled with joy. At the same time seeing his new body which was made of metal and over 9 feet tall, it was hard to believe it was actually him. However hearing this way of speaking and this almost socially unaware way of talking, they knew for a fact that this was the Danny they knew and loved. A few of them couldn’t help but smile and chuckle lightly. Even in this terrible situation, Danny’s way of talking helped relax them.
While they felt a small sense of comfort, unnoticed to them all, the sound of tapping stopped. King Brian slowly stood up and looked at both Triska and Shin.
“Shin, Triska, tell me, do you both still have the metal plates I gave you.”
The metal plates he referred to were the same ones Shin and Triska used to make teleportation gates across the battlefield. With their speed, they could arrive at the front lines well before anyone else. Arriving ahead of everyone else, they would flatten the ground first before laying these metal plates on the ground. The metal plates had Inscriptions cut out of them. Triska and Shin would use lightning to burn through these cutout parts and make a teleportation gate right there and then.
Hearing King Brian mention these unique metal plates, the two looked at one another before waving their hands. Their rings lit up and two large plates around 10 feet each fell heavily on the floor.
*Bang*
The moment King Brian saw these plates, hope had returned to him. He immediately stamped his scepter on the ground summoning a soldier into the throne room.
“Immediately send a squad to the vault, empty it and bring me everything within as fast as possible! GO!”
The soldier raced out of the room and everyone looked at King Brian with odd looks but Danny understood.
“He intends to use all of the leftover resources within the vault. Combined with me, those gates, it will be slow but escaping is now an option but Brian, I can sense everything within the vault, it will not be enough to get everyone out of here alive.”
Everyone became shocked hearing this but King Brian was already thinking about how to solve the problem. He immediately stamped his scepter once more and all of the valuables within his scepter fell out and created a large pile on the ground next to him. Gold Zeni precious gems and rare materials, such a vast fortune that could allow one to rule a nation appeared next to him.
King Brian took it all out without hesitation before shouting desperately at everyone else.
“Take it out! Take every single thing out and leave not even an once behind!”
