Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 60

As Danny’s aura and soul were constantly being attacked and suppressed from all sides, he was constantly enduring the pain from all the explosions destroying his aura. Repairing the layers to his aura, time and again, Danny was feeling the struggle and was barely able to hold his own. At the same time as his aura and soul were being bombarded, he had shrunk his lightning cage to a size that was naked to the visible eye.

The cage of lightning was so small that even though Danny himself was the creator, he could just barely make it out. Once this was done and confirmed, Danny controlled the two tentacles of aura and they moved rapidly. Flashing several ancient hand signs, the power of lightning and wind gathered and flowed continuously.

In front of Danny, one, two, three, cages of lightning no bigger than a hand-formed in the air. It didn’t stop there and the amount only grew. 10, 20, 50, 100. Once he reached this number, he basically hit his limit.

(Any more and my focus will be swept away. This number should workout.)

*BOOOM CRACK BANG!*

The minefield exploded once again. Danny could just barely endure all of this but even under constant threat, he was not concerned over his own safety. Instead, he could sense the base crumbling more and more, faster and faster.

(I have to hurry!)

All at once, he willed the cages of lightning to shrink just as he did the first. With it, the cages responded and began to slowly shrink.

*BANG*

A large crack spread across the ceiling and rode along one of the walls inside the Grand Hall. Immediately everyone near that wall jumped to their feet and ran to the other side, as far away from the damage as possible but the moment they sprung to their feet, another explosion outside caused the entire base to shake with such violence that nearly everyone lost their balance and fell.

The second they fell another explosion caused a large chunk of the ceiling to break off over top of hundreds of men and it came crashing down threatening to crush them flat.

Sam’s body blurred and he moved with swift steps. Arriving under the falling ceiling, his arms opened wide.

*BOOOM*

A large amount of dust and debris filled the room and almost none could see. Shin and Triska, couldn’t use their magic but they still had their bodies. The two moved as fast as the wind and because of this, a large current of air pushed the dust away and out of the hall. When the dust cleared, the soldiers were shocked and thankful as they saw Sam standing above them, a boulder that had to weigh at least 50 plus thousand pounds resting in his powerful grasp.

Sam looked at these frozen men and grunted at them.

“MOVE.”

The men quickly got the message and scattered away from Sam like roaches. Once the men were out of the way, Sam slowly lowered the gigantic boulder to the ground and positioned it so it wouldn’t fall.

Seeing this, the soldiers found it hard to understand their current world and a few couldn’t help but talk freely amongst themselves.

“Does this even make sense?”

“What?”

The first soldier pointed at Sam.

“The Green hero, Sam, he has such strength, It wouldn’t surprise me if he could carry an entire castle on his back yet even he is nothing compared to those Titan’s rampaging about out there. If even someone like Hero Sam is incapable of beating such monsters, then what place do we humans have on the Feya contiennet…no in the whole world, what place do we have?”

“Stop with that nonsense. If we couldn’t live in this world then why did the gods place us in this world in the first place? What you’re saying is sounding blasphemous, don’t speak anymore or others will not tolerate it.”

The first soldier shrugged and continued.

“I don’t give a shit anymore. Blasphemous…Hmph, what kind of gods would let us die in such a dreadful way. At this point, I’m not even sure if the gods are even real or have even existed in the first place.”

Another soldier nearby overheard this and stood up and shouted.

“SHUT THE FUCK UP! I WILL HEAR NO MORE OF THESE LIES AND SACRILEGE!”

The first soldier again shrugged his shoulders.

“What lies? If I’m wrong then prove me wrong, otherwise, the liar isn’t me but you. One more thing, can you stop yelling. If I’m to die, I’d much rather have some calm and quiet before I take my last breath.”

The upset soldier was stunned with anger. He didn’t know what to say but his body knew what to do. Before he could think straight, his fist already flew and punched the other soldier directly in the face. The two then began to fight and very quickly the mood shifted and something different took over.

One man leaned over and punched another and another stomped on a different man’s arm. Suddenly dozens of men were now fighting and it was starting to spread.

Asuna was absolutely against this and was going to break it up but King Brian called out to her.

“Asuna, leave them.”

Asuna tilted her head, a look of disbelief and confusion on her face.

“Leave them alone, we can’t let them fight, they’ll kill each other.”

King Brian shook his head.

“If this really is the end, then who has the right to stop a free man from doing as he wishes. This isn’t rape or murder, this is a fight, if things look bad and it seems like someone is going to kill another, at that time step in but for now, let them release this aggression and frustration. This may be the last time they can be free and make their own choices. Let them have at least this moment to be men.”

Asuna didn’t quite understand the man thing but as she looked over the large crowd, now brawling and beating one another senselessly, she could see Shin, Triska Tozu and Sam were already amongst the soldiers. The four were moving around the crowd with super speed and were preventing people from killing one another. If someone grabbed a weapon, one of them would snatch it away and toss it at the other side of the room, where it would shatter into many pieces against the wall. That or they would bend it out of shape and toss it away.

Sasai simply ignored it as he didn’t really care for these pathetic scared men and Shaila just watched curiously. She as well was one who liked the strong and so seeing these men who moments ago were curled up in a ball, now fighting like actual men, it made things more entertaining. Tozu on the otherhand was a little more proactive. His island had many beasts but also quite a few humans. He felt for these soldiers. They came to this place to fight with their lives on the line but instead they found themselves trapped like rats. While others saw cowardace, he saw courage and didn’t wish to see these men die by one anothers hands.

The four moved with extrodinary speed.

They would grab wrists and stop killing blows and so on. These four understood King Brian’s words right away and decided to step. They didn’t kill anyone or prevent them from fighting, they simply made sure no one killed anyone else. It was violence but it was not chaotic violence.

Asuna didn’t understand it. After all, why fight for no reason. This wasn’t for justice, this wasn’t for revenge or to steal, etc. In her eyes, these men were simply fighting one another just to fight.

Kimi watched as well for a bit before she chimed in.

“Why do men always have to behave so stupidly. Us ladies would never resort to this nonsense just because.”

Nuunlly shook her head.

“I think I get why they are doing this. growing up as a woman who was locked away most of my life and had to do what only my mother tells me all day every day. I understand having no choice, no freedom. These men…they were freer than me but they were still imprisoned in a way. Growing up in a world where they are told they have to be strong, have to provide, and can show no emotion. If they can’t do these things then they are considered weak and therefore are not useful to society and are tossed aside. Then comes this war. Almost 90% of the soldiers are male, most of them were forced into battle. Fighting against disgusting monsters with their lives on the line, now nearly all of them are gone. At the end of it all, these men simply wish to have a small sliver of freedom before they are snuffed out, once more because of something they had no choice in.”

Kimi and Asuna suddenly understood. At first, they didn’t because where they came from, Earth, society was basically equal. Not only that, Kimi and Asuna were still fairly young back on earth and were much more naive then and weren’t exposed to such things at least not exposed to the way a man thinks or the things they deal with in society. Shin and Sam on the other hand knew all of these things firsthand.

After hearing what Nunully said, the three joined the fray to help. King Brian also loosened up slightly. No, he did not jump into the fight but he did finally relent and sat down on the dirty floor. The moment his ass touched the hard flat ground, King Brian let out a small sigh of satisfaction.

*Haa*

(So even hard flat ground can relieve a tired ass.)
