Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 68

Detra couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Her aura extended towards Kazuki who was still frozen in time. The moment her aura got too close the remnants of Kazuki’s aura shielded him and actually forced some of her aura away.

(Not only is he at the 7th stage but his aura is much greater than a normal 7th stage. For it to block some of my power even when he’s stopped in time like this, incredible!)

Detra was stunned.

(For him to go under my radar for so long and now he’s at the 7th stage. Why…how did I not notice this entire time.)

Detra asked herself this but it wasn’t that crazy for Kazuki to slip her attention. She had been focused on the world, along with her sons and Fera for a while now. Even when she looked into Danny’s past and saw Kazuki’s strength grow, she simply paid it no mind. Why would she care? If an insect’s strength went from being able to lift its own body weight to being able to lift 10 times its own weight, it is still an insect and could be crushed at any time. The difference in its strength was insignificant in her eye. So small that even if she were paying attention it would be hard to notice.

She recalled some of Danny’s memories and recognized the power Kazuki had used. It was an ability the dark Vazul entities used. She knew of the tale of the gluttonous God who swallowed the stars and threatened the universe. She knew of the fallen Gods and Demigodswho worshipped Ourdyess and became trapped in one of the Hell realms.

She knew these monsters were incredibly dangerous. Maybe not dangerous to her but if they escape and possess a body, they can easily obtain a vast amount of power in a terrifyingly short period of time.

(The Vazul eat and eat and eat. They consume anything and everything around them but the bodies they inhabit can not handle such power and they inevitably explode. Although they can destroy worlds as an end result, none have been able to fully escape their prison realm. If one were to actually do so, not just I, but all the lower realms could be threatened.)

Detra looked Kazuki up and down. If Kazuki was possessed by such a monster, Detra would not hesitate to end him here and now. Fortunately, her senses were not weak.

(His aura is as vast as the ocean is deep but with time stopped, he can not block out all of my power. I can tell he does not have a Vazul gate inside him and therefore he is not possessed. Instead, there is something new. A gate of his own creation fused to his soul tree. This Kazuki, how did he manage this? How did he copy their ability, no his seems to be slightly modified but I don’t know how. This isn’t something you can just come up with let alone just throw together on a whim. This is one of the reasons his power has reached this point.)

Detra was once again shocked and dumbfounded.

(A human did this. Even if he had no strength, his mind is beyond that of regular mortals. This human is a genius.)

Only now did Detra realize what had happened to the Ancient Beasts’ corpses.

(Even though he had a bond with Glacious and Etora, it did not stop him from eating their bodies just so he could grow his strength. Is this cold of him or calculating. Maybe it’s both.)

Detra was finding Kazuki more and more interesting. If she had come here and he wasn’t actually breaking through to the 6th stage, she was prepared to abandon Danny and everyone else at the mountain base without a second or caring thought. Now though things were completely different. With Kazuki already at the 7th stage, as soon as his business was finished on Gordonia, he could handle Detra’s affairs right away.

Understanding this, Detra wanted him on her side no matter what.

She was now tempted and wanted to immediately look into the past and see the rest of Kazuki’s life but she begrudgingly stopped herself. Kazuki was no longer an insect in her eye but someone with formidable strength. By her estimates, Kazuki could rival her sons if he so wished. If she were to look into his private life, and he ever found out about it…well it simply wasn’t worth it to break trust. She’d much rather start off with Kazuki seeing her in a positive light.

She chuckled inwardly as she thought about Danny talking Kazuki up.

(Danny wanted to hide Kauzki’s devouring ability from me, but I had already witnessed his past. No, Danny is clever. He purposely didn’t tell me. He must have known I would have seen Kazuki and become shocked by his current strength and with that, I would have recalled the details about Kazuki’s strength from Danny’s past. He wanted me to be surprised like this. I’ve got to admit, seeing him in person with such strength, really did leave a lasting impression. Now, Kazuki will become mine at any and all cost.)

Detra thought about Danny’s so-called deal and it truly was in her favor. Danny and his friends would get their lives but Detra really felt she was getting a true treasure in Kazuki.

(Should I simply take Kazuki back like this but…he seems to be doing something to the Miasma.)

Detra did not understand what Kazuki was doing surrounded by the Miasma. At first, she thought he was being attacked but she could sense no degradation to Kazuki’s body or aura. The Miasma for some reason was leaving him alone. Not only that but Detra could sense some of Kazuki’s power within the Miasma itself.

(Is he trying to destroy the Miasma or something else entirely.)

She wished to look into the past this time to understand what Kazuki was doing with the Miasma but to travel back in time and be inside the Miasma, was something not easily done. The moment she traveled backward and was inside the Miasma, the Miasma would begin to absorb her energy and would begin to interfere with her power.

She could stop time before it could take her energy but then she would not be able to witness what Kazuki was doing in the Miasma. She could leave the Miasma and let time flow from there but the Miasma again was tricky. It had properties that could actually block most of her aura. If she sent any inside the Miasma, it wouldn’t be long before her aura was eaten or degraded by the Miasma. In the end, she could do it but it would take far more effort than she cared to put forth. Besides, it didn’t really matter. Kazuki was not being harmed by the Miasma and right now he was her only concern.

Detra’s aura observed Kazuki for another moment before she pulled it back through her gates. The very next moment, her aura returned back into her body and she closed the gate.

Her eyes glowed no more. She looked at a curious Danny who was staring at her intently. He believed with 99% certainty that Kazuki was having a breakthrough and was advancing to the Mind-Body-Soul stage but the fact remained that there was still 1% doubt in his mind.

If he had real flesh then at this very moment he would for sure be sweating with large cold beads at this point.

“Detra, Kazuki, how was it?”

Detra was now in a great mood and seeing Danny who before acted so confident now tremble slightly, she felt like teasing this oversized Golem.

Detra shook her head.

“Unfortunately, Kazuki was not having a breakthrough but instead for some reason he returned to the Miasma. Maybe on the way back, he wasn’t paying attention and flew into it.”

Danny’s body shook and he took a step back.

“No…This can not be.”

(How could I have miscalculated so badly. Kazuki would never lose his attention and make such a mistake but Detra said it…I…I don’t believe it.)

Danny couldn’t believe something so ridiculous. He knew Kazuki and Kazuki was not one to make such a dumb mistake.

(There’s no way. Even if somehow Kazuki had such poor luck and became distracted, which he wouldn’t but even if he did, the Miasma is such a huge object. One can see it or over a hundred miles away. He would not simply fly into it like a bug flying into a windshield. Something isn’t right here.)

Danny made it to here before Detra’s laugh broke the silence.

*Hehahaha*

Danny was confused by this but Detra just laughed more before explaining.

“Kazuki was not breaking through to the 6th stage when I arrived, he had already broken through.”

Danny was stunned and then felt anger, followed by joy. A real emotional roller coaster who did not have too many emotions in the first place. This caused him to realize how exhausting Titans were to interact with. Still, he didn’t know if this was another cruel joke from another eccentric Titan so he asked her with all seriousness.

“Kazuki, he’s really at the 6th stage?”

Detra shook her head, teasing Danny some more.

“He is not at the 6th stage.”

Danny was confused once more. He really did not know what Detra’s game was but he was becoming increasingly pissed. He kept his calm and asked.

“Please, enough. Just tell me what is fact. Is the deal intact or not?”

Detra wanted to mess with Danny some more but she wanted to leave a good impression for Kazuki. If she messed with Danny anymore than this, and he spoke ill of her to Kazuki, Kazuki might just not help. She changed her tone rather quickly when she thought about this.

“Kazuki is not at the 6th stage…He’s at the 7th!”
