ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 267: The Afterglow of the Great Hero Part 1
I do believe that even though it might be a common knowledge, it is something that must be clearly stated here: us Pioneer players are being that were essentially blessed by the Gods. And it is precisely because we were blessed by the Gods that us Pioneer players are more likely to experience a rapid growth when it comes to our innate abilities. Or, at the very least, that growth is faster and more obvious when compared to other humans or humanoid beings.
Not to mention the ultimate difference that sets us players apart from other humans in this game: if we happen to die as a result of battle or a mistake of any kind, instead of perishing we will just wake up inside of the bed where we last rested. So we can technically learn from the mistakes that would otherwise prove fatal. Death is of no real consequence to us and we can pretend that it never really happened.
Of course, when it comes to sleep in this game, it is hugely dependent on the person; some of the players might sleep for weeks without waking up even once, while others may be satisfied with only short naps, only to wake up right after going to sleep.
And even though the Pioneer players cannot really die in this game while asleep, from the perspective of the NPCs it just sometimes happens that after a long period of sleep without waking up, some of the players just…… disappear without the trace, never to be seen again. It is only natural that things like that do happen.
And there are at least a couple more advantages that we Pioneer Players have in this game that I can think of from the top of my head: Level Up System, Respawn System, Log In/ Log Out System, and permanent “Retirement” from the game.
I see, now I get it. It is precisely because of those qualities that some NPCs of this world would consider our existences to be flickering, even more unstable than the heat haze that you occasionally see on a hot day.
「So in other words, what you are telling me is that the positions of us players has always been exceptional in the view of this world, is that it?」
That would certainly explain a whole lot of thing. For one, the fact that the NPCs of this world never find it strange that Pioneer Players grow so strong so fast, or that they may act kind of strange at times and say things that does not really fit into the game’s setting…… Hmm.
「But is this part of the games initial setting? Or did someone went out of their way so that it may seem that way……?」
Still, I do not think that anyone would really bother with a question like that, and even if someone did, it would probably receive a pass as an “It’s just part of the local ecosystem” kind of argument…… No, or could it simply be that the “Plan A” and “Plan B” did not account for the NPCs to be a factor of much importance?
In the Japanese language, there is a kanji ”号” (go) which is usually added only to things and concepts which are associated with the same purpose or destination. In other words, there is a high possibility here that the end goals of “Plan A” and “Plan B” are one and the same. But the thing that differentiates the two plans is the way or means by which the plans want to achieve that goal.
Images found in the ruins of the old castle, the Gravekeeper Wezaemon, Setsuna of the Distant Past, the diary we have found at the top of the Lulilas castle, the mysterious “Omega”…… I think I can already see the frame and some elements, but for now there is no way for me to actually know what the full picture looks like.
Could it be that this mysterious Bahamut creature holds the key to all of the questions I may have? I know that up until now we were receiving hints about it from the other Unique Monsters, so it might be correct to assume that it is going to play a major part in the upcoming story……
「That’s right, what about the other two players that were with me?」
「Akitsu Akane went to the medical center to see if there is nothing wrong with his legs. As for Saiga-0-san, there was that one time when she woke up to do something, but right about now she is still asleep.」
Does that mean she logged out for the day? Oh well, it does not really matter either way. For them, today may have been all about the Rabbitz Defense Battle, but as for me…… I still had one more business that I had to take care of.
Anyways, there is a huge possibility that this other business of mine might take a whole night to actually finish. If that is the case, it might not be a bad idea to pop open another energy drink, just in case……
「Alright then, shall we get going?」
「Are we going to see brother Edward to see how his recuperation is going?」
「Nah, I think we will pass on that. As long as they throw him inside of the bath filled to the brim with healing potions he should be okay. No, there is another business we need to take care of first. I want to know exactly what gave birth to the conflict between the Vorpal Bunnies and Goldunine.」
Maybe by doing that I will obtain the means to somehow overcome the curse of the Carved Wounds that is being placed upon me. If that were to happen, we can certainly find a way to save “Meiki” from being an industrial waste.
I have all the necessary items here with me, and I even managed to save some of them as bonus, so I might as well see if I’ll be able to create some nice weapons out of them later on.
