ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 314 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 314: Megaton Bracelet and a Certain Erotic Radish Part 1

「Booting Up Lower Back!」

This here thing was the dungeon boss of the Ancient Ruins of the Gods dungeon – It’s name was the “Ruin Keeper”. Now, the name might suggest that it was something that was purely mechanical in nature, but in reality it was a hybrid of an old man combined with a strange kind of aircraft. Although the difference in our levels could not have been any more obvious, it was a fight that was slightly annoying, mainly because of the nature of this monster. It was huge, but thanks to the aircraft parts it was pretty mobile, which made evading it slightly problematic on my end. It took some effort and dismantling the damned thing, but finally the pseudo-mechanical golem was defeated for good.

As for the drop items, the only thing worth of notice here was the new material called the “Mossy Iron Plate”. Of course, I had much better crafting materials available on me, but I decided to pick it up anyway. When you reach a high enough level, the gameplay basically becomes like that…… You pick stuff up knowing full well that you are not going to use it, but you delude yourself that it might be useful to you in some way anyways. Besides, I had free space in my inventory anyways, so there was no harm in picking it up.

「Alright then…… Guess I am going to be on my way, then.」

After all, this was not the purpose of my visit here. This place is only a checkpoint, and this boss encounter right now was merely a temporary stop at the road to my goal. The place that I am aiming for is the Sanctuary of the Unseen Clouds that lies beyond this dungeon!

…… However, there is something that I am curious about in here, so before proceeding forward it might be a good idea to go back for a little bit.

The place where I went after exiting the Ancient Ruins of the Gods was the sixth city on this continent, bearing a number “six” in its name” – Sixburg. This was only a temporary stop, however, as once there I have used the magic scroll containing the “Teleportation” spell that would allow me to go back to Rabbitz. Once I was there I went to get Emul, who was currently munching on a carrot pie instead of the apple pie. Once I grabbed Emul, we used his teleportation magic to get back onto the New Continent’s Research Vessel that was already on its way in the middle of the ocean. Being able to utilize fast travel system to its fullest while ignoring any existing law of physics is a privilege that only video games can let you experience……

「Today you are going to be acting as Sanrako-san as well, Sanraku-san?」

「I would normally continue to go through the Iron Ruins of the Gods, but there was something I was curious about, so I went back to check on that……」

Normally I would have already thrown myself off the boat to reset my changed gender here, but since there were other people as well on the deck, I have decided to have a look around for the time being, to see what kind of place this ship actually was.

New Continent Experimental Research Vessel. It may be named like that, but it was in fact nothing short of a luxurious line cruiser that the wealthiest people of the real world would not scoff at. Everything here was created as a combination of medieval and modern day technology, and its engines were powered up by magic. There was also a hefty amount of technology from the Era of the Gods here.

Since it was a vessel created for the sake of research, travelling to the new continent and transporting the players between the old and the new continents, it was also equipped with some amount of weapons, as well as small shop and workshops providing the basic services to all the players. A nice idea, since the cruise was to take at least a few days.

By the way, I boarded the same ship as the emissaries from the Church, and my private cabin was located one level below their suite. I won’t lie, there was a weird sense of superiority in drinking fine wine while watching people below you struggle, even though the wine tasted like sour grape juice and you could not get drunk on it no matter how much of it you would consume.

「Map, map, where is this god damned map, hmm……?」

Is there even a “Snake’s Apple” café in a place like that…… Huh! There it is! Imagine that! Who would have thought, these guys really thought about everything!

「I guess that the strengthening trip can be postponed for now. For now, let’s go around the deck some more and explore.」

The voyage was supposed to take a few in-game days, and during that time the players are essentially cooped up in their cabins. It would have been different if I had someone else to talk to, but unfortunately all of my friends were assigned to different ships.

I guess that being in the same Guild does not guarantee you placement on the same ship. And I mean, it’s not actually important on which of the ships they all are, but rather how Rei, Akitsu Akane, Rust and Mold managed to get on board of one to begin with.

Then, does that mean that it is impossible to communicate with your guild mates when you are travelling the seas? The answer to that question is: no.

I must move very carefully here. There are a whole lot of players on the deck, and if I do not pay attention to the ticking timer, my clothes are going to turn into nothingness right in front of a huge crowd. Paying close attention to the time and changing my clothes to some cheap ones that I have bought on mass, I approach one of the sailors and ask him to fetch me two seagulls. Or at least I think that those birds are seagulls.

「Nbyah!? Geth the hell away from me, you stinking beast!!! Ouch! Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!」

「You idiot, stop squirming! Stop it! I’ll give you a fish from Lulilas later, so bare with it for now!!!」

「「Pieh! Pieh!」」

Were those things really seagulls? Their cry seemed almost identical to that of that small delivery falcon from that time. Maybe the developers are not aware of that, but shouldn’t different species of birds cry in a different way? Or maybe it will be fixed in some patch down the road?

Oh well, it does not really matter as long as they manage to deliver the messages to both Rei and Akitsu Akane. I guess Rust and Mold can be excluded here, since they let us know that they would be doing some Nephilim Hollow for the duration of the voyage.

「“Is there a place called “Sanke’s Apple” café on the map of your respective ship? Alright…… now go and deliver those messages! Do a good job, and I will reward you with some delicious fishes!」

「「Pieh!!!」」
