ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 317: Rock Hack Nano Ka Digest Part 1

The following happened during the third day of our cruise over to the new continent……

「Say, Emul?」

「Yes? What is it, Sanraku-san……?」

「You said that you wanted to enjoy this sea trip some more, right? So why are you not doing so right now? I mean, if you wanted to enjoy it so badly, so can you perhaps look a little bit happier about that?」

「Now, listen here, Sanraku-san. It is true that I was excited for this sea voyage, but here’s the thing: if you keep on just staring overboard at the endless expanse of water for three days straight without doing anything else to break that routine, you are eventually going to become tired of it.」

「…… Well, I mean, it cannot really be helped, right? We have successfully managed to collect all the materials we needed, so the only thing we must do right now is to wait for the weapon strengthening process to be finished. Aside from that, there is nothing else we can actually do.」

We just happened to go back from walking around the deck of the ship, and right now together with Emul we were sitting inside of our cabin, casually talking like that and looking out the window. On a side note, I call this room a cabin, but it is in fact spacious enough to be called a quasi-suite.

Usually the sea voyage is rather peaceful and goes without any major incidents. Sure, from time to time some poor player is grabbed by the tentacle monster and is dragged into the ocean to be devoured, or some seaweed monsters jump onto the ship and needs to be exterminated, but that’s about it. Unless some emergency happens or something that should not go wrong goes wrong, there is hardly anything to do here in this ship.

Now that I think about it, if those ships were launched earlier than they did, they might have actually gotten dragged down to Lulilas in worst case scenario. But thinking about it, I have heard that Lulilas and the sea lanes leading into the new continent are not overlapping with one another, so it should have been just fine.

「But still, who would have thought that even simply walking on board and minding my own business would be this troublesome here……?」

I may be able to deceive other players with my changed appearances, but there is one thing that cannot be changed or deceived no matter what you try to do: your player name. So even if you go to stretch out your legs on the ship’s deck, with so many players around there is always a possibility that someone is going to recognize you.

However, spending the entirety of this sea voyage by sitting inside of your cabin, teleporting to the mainland and then coming back here just to sit in your cabin some more…… Yeah, that was growing really dull really fast. I’m not even going to pretend that it was not that way.

「How about…… going fishing?」

「Fishing, you say?」

Yes, fishing. I remember my dad once saying that fishing is not a mere simple activity. It is the art of a dialogue. A dialogue that the fisherman has with the world itself. And I remember my dad saying that it was not a mere physical activity, but rather a challenge that the fisherman issues to the sea and the ocean itself. But then I asked my Father what about the river fishing? And his response to that was: a river is still connected to the sea or ocean, so no need sweating over the small details. Yeah, but if so, then what about the lakes? An argument like that could go on and on and on.

Well, no matter what you think about it or how it really is, fishing is thought to be a very noble hobby, one that is most certainly not a waste of time where you just sit in front of a body of water all day with a fishing rod in your hand. Sure, there is a whole lot of that and gazing at the sky while being absent-minded, but it’s the mindset that counts here.

However, fishing is not a main focus point in ShangriLa Frontier. And because of that, it is actually much easier and simplified than in real life. No, it is not about me cutting corners because I’m bad at fishing in real life. It’s just that with a very minimum of effort you can quite easily score yourself a fish or a fish-like monster the size of a small car. I guess that every game out there possesses that kind of generalization or deformation. …… Oh, and wouldn’t you know it? I have gotten myself a pull already.

「…… P-Please don’t eat me……」

There is no way in hell I would be able to eat a fish like that…… I know that it is not exactly a goldfish here, but I still asked it for a wish and then released it back into the ocean.

I know that I have a whole lot of free time on my hands, but it’s just so boring out here with nothing interesting to do…… But wait, a talking fish? Could it actually be that there are fish people somewhere in these waters!? Why would I even let it go!?

Wait, you stupid fish! Come back! COME BACK!!!

「––– And, that’s more or less what happened for the time being. Nothing really all that exciting to write home about.」

「Yes, I see, you can say that again…… In the chat, umm…… you seemed to be rather upset, so I thought that something might have actually happened.」

And just like that, before we even noticed it, it was already the fifth day of our new continent sea voyage. And since both Rei and I had no club activities on Saturday and Sunday, so we could devote our free time on the weekend for actually playing the game.

I heard that Akitsu Akane was lamenting over the fact that because of club activities he would be unable to log in on Saturday. But as far as I can tell, it is actually quite amazing that he can compromise playing games with his everyday life and club activities, and still not be mentally exhausted because of all that. It is a life skill that I do believe that everyone should possess.

「I have come to realize on this voyage that you must always pay attention to what you are doing. It’s fine to set up flags when you want to do that, but you need to pay attention so that you won’t end up doing that by accident during your free time activities.」

Oh well, I wonder what would Alva say to the fact that I am currently heading towards the new continent? Would he be surprised? Or would he say that he was expecting something like that from me?

「Oh, yeah. I have been meaning to ask you this for a while now. How is that VR device I have lent to you? Is it working properly? Nothing seems to be wrong or malfunctioning?」

「No, it’s been working perfectly. I have no problem with using it. Thank you so much for letting me borrow it.」

「Well, that’s good to hear.」
